And the previous week’s was directed by the same man who directed the Supergirl movie back in 1984, Jeannot Szwarc. They’re finding plenty of genre directors for this show. And Mssr. Szwarc has improved since Supergirl, happily.
Yes, but they also said that Claire would meet her father and that wasn’t entirely accurate, either.
The choice of directors this week probably had less to do with getting a “genre” director and more to do with the fact that Roxann Dawson directed several episodes of Crossing Jordan.
But it wasn’t untrue either. She heard his voice. She saw him. They didn’t have a conversation but she did see him.
Pretty much everytime someone comes up with a complicated theory about something that has yet to be explained the simple explanation has be true. The creator’s last name is Kring not Wells (either Orson or Edmund). His other great piece of art was Crossing Jordan. This is fluff. Very enjoyable fluff. Don’t look to deep at it or it will all collapse. It is a comicbook. Nothing more. Jessica is Niki’s alter-ego. At some point she is going to either control her and be one of the Heroes or she will stay a villian. There is not two people living in one body. I’ll bet you 100 Doper Dollars.
Okay, I’ll give you not two people in one body, but why not two separate, discrete personalities in one body (as opposed to a split personality - one personality that has fragmented due to trauma)? That’s where I’d wager my money. Like I’ve said in the past, it’s a show about superpowered humans - why go the relatively-mundane route of “simple” psychological disorder?
Because thats what they said it was. I’m not saying something more extraordinary could be done. I would go along with it just as much as I can believe Papa found the Supers through the HGP. From everything that has been shown it is two personalities in one body. I’m betting there won’t be a twist. I won’t be disappointed if I’m wrong. I don’t think I am.
:smack: possible future subplot!
I had the same reaction you did – I’m nearly certain that subplot was lifted almost intact from something else I’ve seen in the last year.
Finally got a chance to watch the episode online.
First, as far as the plot not going anywhere:
In a TV guide interview in December, Tim Kring expressed his uncertainty about what to do with the plots, since all the characters have become so popular. His instinct, and I’ve put the direct quote in two other Heroes threads, was that the show had to keep introducing new characters to keep things fresh, and that current heroes would be dropping like flies. He has said that someone else will die before the end of the season, and I think he originally wanted more.
I don’t think he ever planned for the current plots to need to last so long to respect the wishes of the fans, and that’s why so much has stalled.
(Also, I think they had certain plans that are simply not panning out, and they’re writing the scripts to please the fans. I think there was supposed to a major plotline of the superfamily helping Jessica through her multiple personality disorder, allowing Niki to realize she actually possessed Jessica’s powers herself, before the fans made it clear that the whole plotline with those characters was dull.
I think they were supposed to have a big bomb-stopping scene where all the heroes band together and provide Peter with their powers simultaneously, using the magic of teamwork to create the ultimate super-being. But then they went and cast a complete dweeboid in the role, and fan feedback suggested that we’d never buy such a scene with that actor.)
Second, I don’t know why the Niki/Jessica thing is so hard for people to figure out. Too literal, people. The two entities manifesting themselves in mirrors or in the flesh is a well-worn cinematic device. Nothing that has appeared on screen so far has even remotely compells me to think they can manifest themselves in separate bodies, any more than one old man turned into two in Geri’s Game. Allowing them to appear separately gets them away from long scenes of either a close-up of Ali Larter’s head with echoy voiceovers, or Ali Larter talking to herself with periodic changes of facial expression and vocal tone. However, that’s in fact how they have their fights, and that’s what Matt heard. How they manifest themselves is simply symbolic of how powerful the two personalities are relative to each other. Niki’s trying very hard to emerge again, because she thinks Jessica’s actions will ultimately damage the family. As far as how the get-out-of-jail card was played, Niki spent most of her time in captivity blacked out, allowing for plenty of Jessica-in-control time offscreen to do just about anything.
Third, the diamonds. Diamond merchant knew Linderman sent a hitman. So the whole diamond exchange was just a ruse. Linderman has his $2million, and the diamonds were fake. Which explains why Jessica didn’t bother looking for them. And matt knows Linderman sent the hitman with instructions to put two in the security guard, so I doubt he’ll be heading to Vegas anytime soon. He’ll probably try to pawn the diamonds, and get arrested for attempted fraud. Since he’s the ultimate sad sack character.
Didn’t the guy spend a whole lot of time looking at the diamonds making sure they were real though? thats what prompted the diamond merchant to think “you are gonna be dead real soon anyways” and Matt to figure out it was all a setup.
Ah. The Care Bear Stare.
He picked one up as the merchant was bagging them and looked at it through a loupe, but it could be the equivalent of a guy kicking the tires at a dealership. He was looking to launder the money in a big hurry, and probably followed up a lead fed to him by Linderman’s people.
