Well, I know two boys who are so out of the will! Angela’s gonna be pissed.
So, random thoughts, questions, comments…
Earth shattering kaboom!
Nobody’s dead except possibly the Petrelli boys. Everyone else seemed to be recovering nicely from their multiple gunshot wounds or quietly slithering into the sewers (you think the NYPD’s going to notice that 6 quart blood trail during the investigation?)
Candace can impersonate Nathan in the House of Representatives. Whether or not she can impersonate him with his wife remains to be seen (girlYay!)
I’m guessing that was Kensei at the end on the lone horse but it looked like Papa Nakamura.
Mohinder seems to have found the love of his life. And that’s just a little creepy.
Claire seems to be channeling Buffy, and Sylar looked like Angel in the coat. That must have been why I was mentally screaming “Cut his head off! It’s the only way to be sure!!”
Does Mr Bennet’s first name represent his new role in Heroesland?
“Sibling” isn’t the vibe I was getting from Micah and Molly together at the elevator. “Micah and Molly, sittin’ in a tree…”
I could see Noah (we’ve just now learned his first name, yes?) taking Molly in and making her a Bennet, both because she needs a family, and for the more practical reason that if he keeps her close, he can know her power’s not being used against Claire or the other supers.
Sylar is still alive. The cockroach crawling on the manhole cover is the symbol for him still alive. Same as in the interrogation room at Primatech Paper.
My husband noticed that there was a cockroach in Sylar’s cell when he was held by Bennet’s (former) organization. He wondered if maybe Sylar had absorbed cockroach powers too!
Add me to the number of folks shouting “Cut off his head!” to Hiro.
Peter told Nathan to help: he didn’t (until Claire told him to). I’m not sure how this excuses Niki’s perpetual uselessness. Just because the stranger fighting the supervillain tells you to go back to the grandstands, doesn’t mean you should do so if you’re a hero.
And being a hero is kinda the point of the show. So I’m annoyed by this. It’s not as if Sylar couldn’t’ve held off two or more heroes – he’d already been doing just that before getting klonked.
And, yeah, that was a roach of some type on the manhole cover. I wonder if we’re to infer that Sylar learned something from the Paper Company roach that saved him from dying now?
… and that totally sounded like Katee in the Bionic clip, but maybe that was my brain playing tricks on me.
I’m betting that his statement about being glad that he would die before the day of the bomb was just the frank truth: Mr. Deveux (sp? I’m a bottle of wine down the drain) thought he knew what would happen, but refused any help living to see the day. He sounded very much like the sort of character who was too proud to defy the day when his number was called.
Well, that was worth all the build-up and sidetracks and dead-ends over the course of the season.
Once again they avoided a really interesting show-down between all these powers, made Peter pretty darn weak and pathetic, left a lot of “buts”, and went with the cheap Michael Myers/Jason Voorhees “oh gee we didn’t think to make sure that the bad guy was really really dead” thing. At least they knocked him down with a sword instead of a bulletin board this time.
I hope they put a little more work into the writing beforehand for next season.
Yeah, I was mentally yelling to Claire after Peter and Nathan flew off, “Now, turn around and put a few of those bullets into Sylar’s brain.”
When Hiro stabbed Sylar I mentally yelled, “Now swish the sword around a bit!”
Why don’t they listen to me?
I don’t know who was the first to predict Nathan flying Exploding-Peter away. I know I thought the same thing but someone here posted it before I could and I’m sure a few other people had the same thought.
I also agree that Nathan didn’t need to explode with Peter, however even if he took Peter up to the stratosphere he would still suffer some radiation exposure and maybe some long term ill effects from being so close to Peter before he went nuclear. I wonder how long it would take Peter to heal from going 'splodey?
I also thought that Kensei looked very familiar.
Assuming Peter is far too emo-angsty-stupid to use another power (such as flying or constiporting, both of which he has) while in nuclear mode, Nathan still could have taken him up a mile, as far over the Atlantic as possible, then as soon as Peter said “I’m gonna blow my load of critical mass all over you, bro,” drop Peter and fly away at Mach 5 and be halfway to London by the time the explosion actually happens. And I suppose that’s not strictly ruled out, but it’s pretty unlikely.
And I’ll agree with it being a massive cop-out to have Sylar slink away into the sewer. As soon as Hiro stabbed him, but didn’t do anything to disembowel or behead, I knew it would happen. I nearly screamed at the TV, “cut off his damned head. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!”
I was hoping Hiro would do a full-on, seppuku disembowelment and decapitation on Sylar. In fact, it would have been poetic justice if he’d sliced the top of Sylar’s head off right at the eyebrows.
Nathan pulled it out. Nice to see a politician actually act on principle once in a while.
Seriously, the series has occasionally done something that you don’t often get in network television – produced just a tiny, momentary, “sense of wonder” in me. The first time was when Hiro successfully teleported from Tokyo to New York, and reacted with pure joy; the whole story stepped up a gear.
I think you’re expecting too much from Niki. Her sole purpose for everything she’s done is to protect her family. She intervenes in the fight and the guy in charge of the fight tells her to go back to her family so she does. I don’t see how that’s cause to doubt her heroism.
A pretty good way to conclude the season, but I too wished for a bit more resolution to a few things. Peter may be able to regenerate, Nathan can’t, so we are left with the possibility that either one, both, or neither could survive. Parkman could survive, but he wasn’t moving. DL probably will survive, gunshot wounds aren’t what they used to be.
As for Sylar, something died when his eyes flashed like that. Maybe he lost all of his acquired powers? Maybe he lost the ability to acquire new powers? Maybe he died and something dragged him down into the sewer?
I think that the cockroach at the end was a tie-in to the silly evolution theory lecture that Mohinder gave that started the series.
When I saw the vast majority of the surviving cast in the blast range, I realized that there was no way that the “bomb” was going to go off. Then when Hiro managed to get the F out (and that Ando was safe), I thought for a second that maybe it would.
Now that I have the benefit of hindsight, here’s another ending: Claire says “Niki, put the base of that parking meter in the back of Peter’s skull. Hiro, take us to Berlin, 1940. And then come ba… Hiro? Damnit, where did he go? Ok, Nathan, fly the 2 of us to the middle of a desert. And then come back and pick me up if you haven’t heard anything for a few hours. And for the love of god, someone please make sure that Sylar is dead. That cliché is so old that Austin Powers spoofed it to death.”
Nathan can survive flying faster than the spead of sound. Maybe he is invulnerable while flying? It would almost make sense but I hope they don’t use it.
