Heroes 5/21/07 - "How to Stop an Exploding Man" (SPOILERS)

I have a theory that the eyebrows are a separate entity that controls Sylar and they may have too much defensive capabilities to be cut off.

Ever see that episode of The Tick with the mustache?

Noah. Hm. Yeah, that could be interesting.

Well, we called it. And Peter, we have a 80 percent chance of still being alive. He blew up once before and survived. Nathan’s dead, though… probably. Unless Peter managed to kick flight into gear.

That’s why I loved his quiet little un-subbed “Ya-tta” when he ventilated Sylar. Also think he gave that sword a leetle-bitty twist.

My hope is that Sylar didn’t crawl into the sewer, but was dragged there by next season’s baddie, who then ate his brain or something. Given the bug at the end, it’s probably just that he didn’t die, but hey, I can dream.

That was a supremely satisfying conclusion to the season!

I think Peter can only use one power at a time, which is why he couldn’t fly or constiport or anything when his hands went a-glow. This also explains why Sylar defeated Peter so easily, since he (Sylar) appears to be able to use multiple powers simultaneously.

In other news, Amazon is accepting pre-orders for the Heroes DVD.

I thought that maybe Parkman was wearing a bullet-proof vest. Any evidence one way or the other? If DL has survived this long, I think he’s going to make it to season 2. I can’t imaging season 2 opening with a funeral for these 2 guys.

Also yelled “off with his head!” at the screen…Really don’t like him surviving, really don’t like him telling Peter that “he” was the hero and Peter the villan…but I will admit the cockroach was a nice touch.

I think the reason everyone said that Nathan would fly Peter off was that that was shown in one of Peter’s dreams.

sure am glad I didn’t put any bets on NY going kaboom!!! Boy, that would be embarrraaassssiiiinnnnng!!!

We already know Peter can use multiple powers. He’s used TK while invisible, for instance. I stick with my fanwank.

I am not sure if Sylar survived…the thing with his eyes kinda signalled death. I am more leaning to the idea that he was dragged into the sewer by someone whose reasons we won’t discover until next season.

I still want to know ‘how’ you prove he was using TK while invisible, since at the time, we couldnt see him, nor can we ever see the TK ‘itself’.

My fanwank is that he was trying so desperately to exhibit control over this one ‘power’ that he didn’t dare risk any loss of concentration attempting to do something else.

Shouldn’t he have already learned that all he had to do was control his emotions and “calm the fuck down” ?

I am so irritated at myself for just now getting what Mama Petrelli powers are…persuasion.
Everytime Nathan wavers, Momma touched him and he changed his mind to what she wanted. She even had to use two hands in their last scene alone together. She tried touching Claire, and for a second it looked like it took before she did the header out the window. Also, did it look like she flipped Mama and Nathan off when she pulled herself up from the sidewalk?

Another quick thought, I was shouting for Hiro to stab Sylar in the back of the head, it seemed that that is the only way to make absolutely sure an adept is dead. Claire saved Peter from the permanent dirt nap by pulling the shard of glass from the middle of the back of his head and when he told her to kill him with the gun, he reminded her to aim for the center of the back of his head.

The thing with his eyes was just the effect when Isaacs future painting was in effect, it doesn’t have to mean he was dying. As far as Peter being ok or not, well not only can he regenerate but also Ted never took absolutely any damage from his own power so its likely it wouldn’t harm him in the first place.

At least now we now what the eclipse at the beginning was about. It was apparently to bookend with the finale. We now know it didn’t signal people getting their powers since many have had them for years, perhaps for several generations.

Actually thats just the only way to make sure someone with Claires power stays dead.

But the last thing that flashed in Sylar’s eyes was himself on the sidewalk, then they went ‘foggy’.

It can, and will, be argued until the beginning of next season, of this there are no ifs, ands, or buts…

I misremember, doesn’t Sylar have Claires powers?
T

No, because Claire is still alive. For the same reason, he doesn’t have Parkman’s powers or Candace’s.

Kahn!

How could Peter survive? Doesn’t exploding kind of ruin your brain the same way a shard of glass would?

You and me both.

Things were coming so close to working out in tandem with my “One (almost) consistent timeline” hopes, and even as late in the episode as Hiro’s stabbing of Sylar, I was still able to hold out hope, hope which was dashed moments after by an overdose of sappiness. (And I was already reeling from the near fatal hit I’d taken previously, as Simone’s dying father gave his sermon on the power of lurv. And of hope!). Man, they even took Ando back to his office, which would’ve tied up the one thing about…

Oh, it’s hopeless. The whole thing just felt cobbled together, right in line with my worst fears about them not having planned anything out in advance.

Speaking of which, what was the deal with the whole “Why’d you take the bullet? You could’ve let it phase through you” line? That wasn’t there last week, was it? So why add it? It seemed like a rather surprisingly direct response to fan complaints, but of all the issues to respond to, this is the easiest to fanwank (DL was presumably caught unprepared). Yet they didn’t even say that; they just left it unresolved, but explicitly mentioned. I kept waiting for some sort of explanation. If they hadn’t brought it up again, I (and I imagine everyone else) would’ve just let it slide, but instead, they made it an unignorable niggling worry.
