Heroes - a question about those who've been Sylar'd

And by that I mean they got their head sliced open so he could poke around.

I was thinking about this past week’s episode when Peter got Sylar’d, and how he was screaming in pain. Then I thought back to when Charlie got Sylar’d at the diner, and not a peep from her. It seemed to just happen and then she was down for the count. Is it an editing issue? This is bugging me. It makes me wonder if Peter’s faking? I can’t remember whether the cheerleader (Jackie, right?) was in pain from it, but I think she was.

The cheerleader didn’t make much noise, if I recall correctly, and Charlie seemed to be pretty much instantaneously de-brained. This is because they were guest stars. Peter, being a main character, gets to scream a lot and then will somehow manage to escape.

[fanwank] Charlie’s brain was a ticking time bomb. She was due for a fatal aneurysm at any moment. Maybe slicing open her skull set it off. [/fanwank]

Also, it can’t be coincidental. Sylar inherited that woman’s over sensitive hearing, maybe he also inherited Charlie’s condition.

One can only hope Sylar will die of an aneurysm

Sylar was probably able to make a nice clean thorough cut on Charlie because he didn’t have any distractions. He was in a hurry with Jackie and Peter, and was maybe sloppier?

[/fanwank]

Hmm, could be. Or, perhaps, something happened after Charlie that changed his methods, making the head slicing more complicated/slower for him? The aneurysm thing might come back somehow. After all, he’s not just absorbing their powers like Peter and “filing them away.” He’s actually altering his own DNA according to the Organization Without Initials and, maybe, his brain structure.

I don’t think Sylar’s power works that way. When Sylar met the elder Dr. Suresh, he could tell his watch had a defect just by looking at it, and stated that he can do that with any watch (and many other devices). That’s his original power.

All the supers’ powers seem to be psychic in nature, and housed in their brains. By opening their skulls, Sylar is able to see the configuration of their brains that gives them their powers, and thus to duplicate that configuration in his own brain. He doesn’t “inherit” their power, and if Charlie’s aneurysm was part and parcel of the brain configuration that gave her her power, she’s the first super we’ve met who seemed to be like that.

So I wouldn’t look for Sylar to have an aneurysm too. Besides which, didn’t Hiro un-happen Sylar’s murder of Charlie? I thought he changed history so that Charlie died of her aneurysm instead.

Anyway, you know Peter wasn’t screaming in pain. He was screaming over the loss of his bangs.

While it was never explicitly stated on-screen whether Charlie ended up dying of the aneurysm or having the top of her head sliced off, the footage used the second time her death was shown was the exact same footage of her death at Sylar’s hands. I don’t believe there was any intention to indicate that she died of some other cause the second time through.

As for Sylar’s having an aneurysm, I suggested the notion back when Charlie first died. I like the notion that Charlie’s death will result in Sylar’s.

Nope, Hiro tried to save Charlie, but the revert showed the same head-slice as before. The aneurysm may become a factor, but we don’t the exact nature of Sylar’s absorbtion method.

I dunno. It’s just my opinion, but I don’t think Sylar would inherit a brain defect. He can spot what’s wrong with things and people, and can copy their abilities but I don’t see him inheriting Charlie’s brain aneurysm unless it was intrinsic to her ability. If it was, then I guess he’s got it. But I figure her aneurysm was coincidental to her ability.

The reason she had an aneurysm was to teach Hiro (and us the audience) he can’t always change peoples’ destinies.

Of course, he’s out to change the destiny of NYC, and we all hope he succeeds. How’s that work? Hmm.

Maybe Hiro’s time traveling actually causes the destruction of NY and he’s allowed to fix his own time traveling mistake, but not alter events which he hasn’t screwed up with his time traveling.

Brain ache! Ow, ow!

Peter has Claire’s healing power, so perhaps the head slice is healing as Sylar is performing it, so it’s not quick, and thus painful for Peter.

The online comic book #20 I think… (I know, I know) definitevly answered the question about Charlie’s death…

Sylar did indead kill her and take her power

There is no comic book. There is only a TV show.

Come on, this is silly. If you don’t want to read the online comic book, fine. But it’s part of the canon and it has answered many questions definitively.

When Isaac met Hiro and Ando at the diner (I forget what episode it was, but it was when Isaac went “off reservation” and was after Hiro’s trip back to the past), Ando mentioned to Isaac that Sylar killed Charlie. I mean, they weren’t referred to by name, since Isaac didn’t know Charlie, and Hiro and Ando didn’t know Sylar’s name (and maybe still don’t, I’m not sure), but Ando said something like “bad man killed Hiro’s friend”.
