Hey, Any Dopers Wanna Go To The Ann Arbor Art Fair?

Say, if I don’t have a conflict I’m up for it! My office is located in the midst of it and I get to pop out now and then for an art-fair viewing break, but I rarely get to see it all. So going back on the weekend is always fun.

This means I’ve got access to decent air conditioned bathrooms right in the middle of art fair, folks!! And if you want to stop by Chez Cranky for a beer or whatever afterwards, that’d be groovy.

Decent, air-conditioned bathrooms? Like, immediate access?

OH yeah. Yes, yes, yes!!! :smiley:

This is sounding better and better! Bathrooms, a Doper mom, and glowing necklaces. What is not to love?

We can play Art Fair Bingo!

You check off squares as you spot common (and not-so-common) Art Fair sights. I have a board someplace. It’s got squares like:

Goth in Sunlight
Middle Aged White Woman Wearing Ethnic Clothing
“Art-On-A-Stick”
Screaming Kid in Stroller

Hmm… I’ve never been to an art fair. I might be able to make that if you go Saturday. Maybe I can drag Medea’s Child along, too. I’ll have to remember to talk to her about it.

Hi Cristi,

What’s the closest beach to Ann Arbor? And will there be naked beach volleyball?! :smiley:

Bluepony?

:::blink blink:::

BLUEPOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNYYYYYYYY!!!
:::Persephone leaps on Bluepony, tackles him and hug hug hugs him:::
Man, how the hell are ya? Whare have you been? How’s the family? The new (well, he’s not so new anymore, is he?) doing okay? What’s going on? You’re not leaving again, are you, because that would really suck, and last Monday was my birthday and this is a REALLY great present! :D:D:D:D:D

Well, gee, thanks Cristi (blush)

Haven’t had much of a chance to see a computer on a leisurely basis the past few months. Police work is really burning me out after finishing up an assignment down in Miami. Missed my family and came back to a lucrative job offer in the private sector doing something that is NOT police/law enforcement. My weekends and holidays off, no shift work, no cleaning up other peoples’ bullshit, having a normal life again.

I’ve taken the weekend off to consider the job offer letter on my computer desk. More money, less hours, room to advance, great bennies, no more frightened and worried wife and kids. I guess I’m kinda getting tired of being a cop.

Well anyway, Happy Birthday, sorry to hijack this thread to say “Hi”. I really missed this board and all the posters. Satan got banned??!! Man, I need to read the boxscore on that series. I probably won’t be posting as much as using the search function to catch up on all the comings and goings. Coldfire a moderator? (shudder) Is this one of the coming signs of the Apocalypse? (“Great rains of fire and brimstone, Mark of the Beast, Moderator Hat of Darkness coming from the Land of Clog”) Yikes.

Maybe one day, I may crack 1000 posts. I must be setting some kind of record for slowest post count rate. Oh well, gotta be good at something, right?

Great seeing you guys again.

You mean she talks? :smiley: No, really, it would be great if you guys came along. Plus, bathrooms! Whoo!

Juniper,
who’s watching food network and wondering “What the hell is Emeril’s deal already?”

Okay, anybody sure about whether or not they’re going to go/not go, and does anyone need directions? I think the idea of meeeting at Briarwood Mall is an excellent one, too. Want to just pick a store to meet in front of, and catch a shuttle from there? IIRC, during Art Fair, the shuttles run every few minutes or so. When I lived in Ann Arbor, I used to ride the buses a lot, and never had any kind of trouble at all.

I haven’t been to Briarwood in several years, but I know it’s changed a lot, so someone else should probably pick the store where we’ll meet. And what time is good for everyone? Saturday is the early-closing day for the Fair, so my suggestion is the earlier we meet, the better.

I’ve been to Briarwood! I loved it! My first experience as an adult with a big scary American Mall.
My son ran off in Briarwood. It took 45 minutes to find him. I don’t think I’d wanna go back to Briarwood Mall. Except maybe for the Crabtree & Evelyn store…

Wahhh! I wanna go to Ann Arbor!

The last time I took the shuttle from Briarwood to the art fair, the busses left from a spot near the Sear’s menswear door. There’s a mall entrance right near there that’s very easy to find. How about that?

Ginger…come along! Surely it’s not that far of a drive from the permafrost! :slight_smile:

Bear in mind that I once drove 12 hours to New York to see a friend’s new pool one Saturday. Your idea of “surely not that far” may, of course, vary.

Talked to my mom a little while ago. While she has no desire to attend the Art Fair at all (living in Ann Arbor can do that to you, believe me), she does wish to meet you, and has said that she’d be happy to catch up with us after we’re done cruising around, maybe for dinner or something.

Juniper: After meeting you twice now, the story about the pool does not surprise me. At all. :smiley:

Ginger: Oh yeah, if you want to come down for this, believe me, you’re more than welcome! You’re very high on my “People I MUST Meet Someday” list! :smiley:

::little voice::[sub]Can I go?[/sub].

I have no money, having just come back from vacation where we spent too freakin’ much, but I’d love to go.

Is it the 21st you’re talking about?

Where’s Briarwood Mall? I promise I’ll behave myself!

Carina, hurry up and get your butt moved here! And make it pronto!

I’m sensing a need for a Halloween DopeFest Costume Party…

No, Bunny, you can’t go. I made a mistake in the thread title. It should have been “Hey, Any Dopers (except BunnyGirl, 'cuz she’s icky) Wanna Go To The Ann Arbor Art Fair?” :wink:

Muahahahahaha…

Just kidding! If you can make it, please do! You know I love your company, and this will give us an excellent opportunity to gossip about thinksnow. :smiley:

Cool! I’ll check with the hubby tonight to make sure.

Where is the mall y’all are meeting at. I’m not familiar with Ann Arbor. We could meet somewhere where 96 and 23 intersect and ride together. Or not. :smiley:

I’ll have money for some vittles but that’s about it.

My guess is think is going to wonder how his name popped up in this thread, when he searches today! :stuck_out_tongue:

Everyone wave at think!

Uhh… lesseee… five hour flight, but I could drive it in three days, non-stop…

Send pictures!

[sup]Nerts![/sup]
Curses,BunnyGirl, you nailed it.

<totally busted, waving>
“Hi, everybody.”

I saw this thread when it first came up, but I figured it was a “Hey I’m heading there this afternoon, anyone wanna meet up?” type of thing or else I would have checked in earlier. I see the dates match the Nor Cal So Cal fest, so you will be snow-less, but I’ll be thinking about all the lovely Michigander ladies, and I’ll have the shirt so people can add to what you’ve started.

When you speak of me, speak kindly…

:::snicker:::

Oh, of course we will, think dear!

:::chuckle, snort:::

We’ll remind each other of what a fine, sweet, chivalrous gentleman you are…

:::choke, guffaw:::

…and how you oh so effortlessly charmed us all with your combination Rhett Butler-esque manliness and your Phil Donahue style sensitivity…
BWAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

:::wiping away tears of laughter:::

Sorry. But man, you know full bloody well what we’re gonna talk about. :smiley:

As long as you think long and hard about what you are going to say first.
