I’m hard to shop for because when I venture out into the worldI rarely find anything I want, and when I do I just get it. So when a designated gift-giving day rolls around I really don’t want much. I’ve got the sorts of tools I want (although I’d appreciate if someone would return my 12mm wrench…CJ!), the sorts of casual clothes I like come from concerts that nobody else wants to go to, and I don’t collect stuff unless I personally have a hand in obtaining it.
I mean this year, if someone really wanted to give me something I’d like a hardback complete works of Aristophanes. But I’d really love a steel kitty litter scoop because the plastic ones break. And some peace. Come & visit pops, hey great. But how about let’s just chill on the porch and watch the ants–'cause that’s the best.
There are things I always want, getting them is nice, and completely appreciated. What I’d really love instead of a meal out or presents is lots of alone free time to do the millions of projects I can’t do.
It’ll never happen. It would seem insulting to ask to be left alone
Beyond that, I’d like to prepare a large piece of meat on the grill, have other people worry about the sides, then have everyone sit down and eat it at the same time. Then they can clean up too.
Last year I got a sampler pack of different kinds of cologne, with a certificate for a full bottle of whatever I like best. That actually worked out, and I stopped smelling “bold, adventurous, and masculine” a month or so back because I finished the bottle.
My wife and I played a game where I would use one of them, and then she had to guess what I was supposed to smell like according to the packaging - “bold and masculine” as per above, “mysterious and seductive” was another one, and I don’t recall the others. Once I sprayed myself with Old Spice, and she said I smelled like her grandfather. So, she nailed that one.
I’m assuming St. Louis, even though it appears that there is also a Market Street in Boston. (Go Blues!)
For my Father’s Day I want to do an escape room with my wife and three (adult) stepkids. No SO’s, no grandkids, just the five of us locked in a room for an hour. That should be fun.
As a matter of fact…I got a text from a guy who does the ordering for a nearby beerporium. I’d mentioned the beer to him a while ago. His text said, “I have that beer you want on draft”.
I’ve been wanting a smoker for years. I’m not even very good at regular charcoal grilling (can’t seem to get the heat even or consistent) so I’d probably fail at smoking, too. However, I want to try it on a charcoal unit—if I can learn well enough on one of those then using a propane or electric model should be a piece of cake. I want to be able to smoke salmon, brisket, and the Thanksgiving turkey.
I’ve wanted a WSM for years but never made the leap. I certainly won’t be getting one for Father’s Day, which is a “holiday” we don’t really celebrate in our household. My birthday is a few days after FD and my kids are the kind to get me a Matchbox car or a Lego set rather than something useful.
Just time, to do what I want to do, whether it’s a nice 50km bike ride, or sitting in my office figuring out how to get Apple’s new Application Notorization to work.
