My stepdaughter painted a message to me all along the edges of the windows of my car. “I love my pop-pop” was the general theme; it was very colorful and beautiful and explains why she had to borrow the car for six hours on Saturday. She also presented me with a set of doubtlessly-illegal DVDs of Pushing Daisies and Better Off Ted. But it’s the message that really got to me.
Gave:
I gave my dad a card with money in it, as the air conditioning on his car has conked out and it will cost better than a grand to fix. I figured I could cover half. I also gave him the gift of not beating his firstborn son with a blunt object, though in retrospect that was probably the wrong decision for the world in general.
My favorite was the card my daughter made; lots of photos, nice prose and pictures.
Got a smoker ‘on paper’, now just need to shop around and find the exact one for our desired meats and space, a well made tower with indirect heat. Am really looking forward to getting started.
Several comfortable shirts and sandals. It was a good day.
Nothing - my father doesn’t believe in Father’s Day. I guess my brother called him a couple of weeks ago and said Happy Father’s Day - “It was a nice sentiment, not that I know when Father’s Day is”.
As it happened, Father’s Day and my dad’s birthday fell on the same day this year. I got him a Kindle. He’s still really active but my mom doesn’t like to leave the house much anymore, so I figured giving him the ability to pick from thousands of books delivered wirelessly while he’s home would be a good thing. He loved it, so I was right.
Very thin lounge pants and a t shirt for lounging about. My father is very formal and will not sit around undressed. He recently took another fall and pulling on his jeans isn’t as easy as it was and he won’t sit around in a robe. He is very particular about his clothes and I gave him a shirt for his birthday ib April and at 75, he says he has enough cologne and ties to last him until he’s 100.
I made a butterscotch pie for my dad. The man has everything, and is impossible to shop for, but he loves him some butterscotch pie. And I make fabulous pies.
I got my baby’s father this little mini-football helmet that I think is totally ridiculous but is what he specifically requested, so he was thrilled while I was rolling my eyes.
I got Season 4.0 of Battlestar Galactica and a waffle iron.
My dad will get a card the next time he’s near a post office and a phone-call. Heand my mom RV full-time so it can be sometimes difficult to get mail to him and he definitely doesn’t need any more stuff - their space is pretty limited. For gifts, we’ve been pretty much reduced to gift cards and charitable donations.
Thanks. It sounds more impressive than it is. I plant them real close to each other so as to yield the biggest possible color bomb. He gets a kick out of it.
(Got) A set of barbecue tools, a musical card that plays “Shout”, and a morning fishing with Number One Simmerson. Doesn’t get much better than that. (Well, the fish could be bigger, but whatever).
For Mother’s Day, I sent my mom some bubble bath. On Father’s Day, I told my dad that his was on the way, unless he wanted to exchange it for a weekend visit from me, including fishing on Saturday (which he loves, but will never go on his own).
Similar to Simmerdown, Saturday will probably just involve Dad watching me catch fish. They like me better.
