The Packers will win the NFC North. The sad thing is, this means only that they’re the best of a bad division in a bad conference. They’re better than 3 mediocre teams, it’s true. If this gives you a warm christmassy glow, I won’t deprive you of it. Go out and make snow angels, have a glass of cognac, and crank up the “Titletown” CD on your boombox. The Packers deserve the dubious honor of best in the NFC North.
The Vikings are not good. They are not well-coached, they don’t play with any consistency, and their defense is wretched. Culpepper’s stellar performances early got them some wins, but it was unrealistic for anyone to start expecting things of them. If they make the playoffs, it’s because the division is so awful. If you argue that they will win the North, you’re not looking either at the current standings, or the Vikings ability to win games. I find it sad that someone could have watched the last two games and still entertain ways that this lousy team will win their division.
They may make the playoffs, however. It is even possible that a team with a losing record will make the playoffs this year, so it is a rather tainted prize to have a playoff berth in the NFC this year.
That being said, I will enjoy the Xmas Eve game anyway. It’s the Superbowl for these 2 teams, as someone said.
I couldn’t resist. You were just so cute bringing this up! Warm hugs and blowjobs Hope you find whatever makes you happy. Though I can’t think of any pet farms that offer sheep-feltching.
Basically, the Packers are doing now what the Vikings did during the '70s, and half of the '80s and '90s:
Winning the division by not sucking quite as much as the rest.
I predict:
Lions 24, Vikings 17.
Vikings 35, Packers 24
Redskins 21, Vikings 13.
Vikings finish 8-8, do the Green Bay Tippy Toes Backwards Shuffle into the playoffs
and have a wildcard game in Seattle.
The Packers manage to lose 2 of their last 3, finish 9-7, and, in spite of having the greatest person to ever walk the planet at QB, lose their first road playoff. :o
I didn’t realize a bunch of lame references to “ViQueens” was a hard-hitting discussion of FOOTBALL by hard-core football insiders who want to talk facts and stats instead of name-calling. I even mistook your “that’s weak” comment as an invitation for harder smack talk, thus posting my facetious bit of same, but now I realize that it’s really just deeply knowledgeable football fans discussing the game.
Yeah, but I own stock so every June I get to head down to GB and vote on whome will be GM, VP, etc. It’s not enough for a power trip, but I have more say in the team than a Viking fan trying to bend the ear of McCombs.
If we can schedule it it’ll be in Grand Forks. Though I do get to Brew Town at least once a year. I grew up on Quimby Ave in Regal Manors East. Right off Moorland and National. If you’re in Mil you’ll know where that is.
As far as blowjobs go, well, I think we’ll all have to get together and get a certain Doper from Madison to join us. But I don’t promise anything!
Take your 10 year old nephew to a game at the Dome wearing a Driver jersey and have “fans” dump 3 beers on him for being a Packer fan.
Then go to Lambeau Field and see what happens to Viking fans during the Grand Opening. (Last year after the renovation.) I was there. Vikings won. Everyone was respectful.
Yeah, Moorland and National, New Berlin - Muskego-ish area.
Very familiar with the area, almost bought a house there two years ago (just north of the intersection). Decided Moorland was too busy of a street to live on.
Every football fan I know has the same two stories. How they were mistreated at the other guys’ stadium. How they’ve never seen anything like it at their own stadium. Most fans are OK at all stadia, and there’s a few jerks at every stadium.
[QUOTE=duffer]
Of course, you know we have people in Duluth, right? RIGHT? :dubious:
Yes, yes, I’ve met your people in Duluth:
Duluth Packer Fan: “Yea, but, WE won a Super Bowl ten years ago, and, and, and, We won the first TWO Super Bowls, and, and, and You guys choked in the Super Bowl 30 years ago, and, and, and, we’re better, nah, nah nah!”
And it’s all very true, and repetitive, and I slink off into the corner, considering myself to be well and truly smacked down.
Trust me. Hit Lambeau Field as a fan of any team and you’ll at worst get some good-natured ribbing. Should you get one of the dozen or so drunks looking to take it further, there will be at least 50 Packer fans to step in and end it. Believe me on this if nothing else ever, Green Bay is where you want to see a football game, and you will enjoy it. Guaranteed.
Duffer, it’s looking like Sunday, Jan 2 will be a good day for me. (I’ll probably be in Forks on Jan 1 as well but I assume you’d probably have other plans that day…and you may not be ready for a beer yet. ;))
A look at the schedule tells me that the Packers will be playing da Bears at the same time the Vikes will probably be tanking it in Washington. We could meet at a sports bar and keep an eye on both games at once (is Players still around on N. washington?).
There’s a good chance I’ll be in Forks on Xmas Eve too, at least for part of the day. We’ll be driving to see my my wife’s folks in Devils Lake later that day but it might not be out of the question that I would be available to watch THE GAME that day if you’re up for it.
I’m still hammering out the details for our vaction (and Mrs. Dio will have some veto power…yes, I am whipped) but one of those days will be earmarked for sure.
I think Starving Artist lives in GF as well but I haven’t seen him posting lately. SA, if you see this, maybe you’d like to join us.
(I can’t believe I’m volunteering to spend part of my Christmas vacation having a beer with two Republican Packer fans).
Holy shit. I’d drive up and even things out, but I have a date with my sister and a case of beer that afternoon to watch the ViQueens and the Slackers. We’re going to be so drunk by the time we get to grandma’s house … !
Enjoying this thread, by the way. It was difficult for me not to pit the Vikings today, after riding in the car for eight hours in 40-mile-an-hour winds to watch them in all their glorious suckitude yesterday. And I missed my half-time/third quarter nap for that?
