Hey Diogenes, How 'Bout Them Packers?

As a vikes fan I hate the packers. But I have to give respect where it is due. They look good this year. The vikes should beat them at the dome, but the packers are just…clicking.

They should win the division, but it is the worst in the league, so nothing to be really proud of…

I am excited to see the broncos looking poor. I have tickets to the vikings - broncos game this year in denver. I was expecting a blow out, but who knows, it might be a game.

The vikings are a missed field goal and a referee’s mistake away from being 3-0. If that were the case people would be talking about what a great start to the season they are having. The thing is, that if those plays had gone the other way and they were 3-0 they would still suck, they would just be a shitty team with a perfect record. The Packers are better, but I still think they’re only mediocre. Beating the Vikings next week will do little to change that. They have to get a running game somehow.

Most teams unfortunately can be put in one of three categories right now:

Superbowl contenders- Those going to the playoffs and having a good shot at going all the way. Includes Patriots, Colts, Steelers, Cowboys.

Playoff bound- Those good enough to get to the playoffs but won’t get to the big game. Includes Packers, Ravens, Chargers, Seahawks.

Won’t make it- Teams just have too many problems and can’t possibly make it to the playoffs. Includes Falcons, Chiefs, Vikings, Dolphins, Raiders, etc.

The NFC central has either the Packers or Bears playoff bound but unless either makes some drastic moves (Pack gets a running game or Bears gets an offense) neither is a contender.

Around here, we’re calling it the week of the stupid NFL refs. Not sure if you saw the Dallas - Chicago game, but there were at least 3 terrible calls (illegal blocking in the back being the most obvious) and one complete fuckup just before the half. My Cowboys had to fight the zebras, themselves (yeah I’m looking at you, Flozell) AND the Bears.

I sure do hope the Saints pick it up tonight. To me, their (lack of) performance has been the biggest surprise this season.

I’m a diehard Packer fan so as a birthday present from the GF we’ve got tickets for next weeks game. So I’ll get to see in person Brett Favre break the touchdown record!

A-stinking-men! I was ready to call someone and protest that Chicago had a few extra men on the field (I told my sister that they had a couple of players in the wrong uniforms–no pads, with black and white striped jerseys)! My DH–who only watches because I do, and otherwise couldn’t care less about football–was completely outraged by that bogus block in the back call. And that bit just before the half was freakin’ ridiculous. I was pretty hostile about it, no doubt. If that game had come down to a field goal that we didn’t get the opportunity to even try because of a completely WRONG ruling, that official would have been tarred and feathered by Dallas fans!

(a) Why is this unfortunate?

(b) How is it different from any other season?

I think all teams can be put in those categories.

So how was it? From what I was hearing the Vikings fan were pretty good about the whole thing too…

(This coming from a Packer fan)

Yes they pulled this one off and got the win but it sure didn’t convince me that the Pack is as good a their 4-0 record shows.
Against the Vikings who are really struggling right now the Packers had to fight to get their points on the board, had to get some lucky calls go their way, and had a LOT of trouble trying to stop Adrain Peterson from picking up 112 yds. before pulling him for some odd reason.

I just haven’t seen them dominate a game yet the way the Patriots and Cowboys have.

Off topic a bit, but how many WRs do the Redskins need?

I guess I look at it this way: Almost everyone (including myself) thought they were a .500 team. That they’ve started 4-0 and domnated only one game (the Giants) without playing perfectly means they’re a better team than anyone thought.

Are they as good as the Cowboys? I don’t think so, but we’ll find out. The only teams in the NFC I see on par with them are the Seahawks or maybe the Redskins.

Saunders will occasionally call for a four- or even five-wide receiver formation. With Santana Moss being one, and considering that each of the other wideouts currently on their roster is worth about 0.4 NFL wide receivers, they’ll need to have 11 under contract to go five-wide.

ETA: Damn! Forgot about Moss!

And you won’t. The Packers simply don’t have a running game.

This comes from a Lions fan that picked the Vikings to win the division.

Does anyone know if the Packers have a running game?

All smack talk aside, defense and running the ball are the only two things the Vikings are able to do well lately. AP has gotten his 100+ yards against everybody the Vikes have played this year and the Purple are the best in the league at stopping the run. We just don’t have a passing game. We have no QB and no standout receivers. If we had any kind of a deep threat or a QB who could hit the side of a barn we’d be playoff contenders. As it stands, we’re going to need some more high draft picks.

At least Peterson appears to be a real deal superstar running back. We haven’t had one of those in awhile.

Congrats to Favre, by the way, even though it was tacky for the officials to give him back that interception he threw on his first play from scrimmage because of a phantom PI call on Winfield. It’s always a shame when the Zebras feel like they need to get involved and bail Bret out like that. :stuck_out_tongue:

What about the bogus interference call on Al Harris at the end of the game?

I had to listen to the last quarter of the game in the car. I didn’t see that play. The radio guys weren’t saying there was anything wrong with it. Harris was gimpy yesterday so it makes sense that he would have to grab on.
