Hey June, don't make it bad (but you will) [Mini-Rant]

We got our first dog, a “Little White Fluffy Lab Rat”.

And the first thing we did was to agree "This is NOT going to be a high-strung, YIPPY little monster!’ So we went to Dog Training…

… where the real training was of the owners. We learned Clear Communication, and Utter Consistency.

Never a yip. Well, we’d get alerted when a strange dog was in our yard, but just a few barks to let us know.

Some of those little dogs are bred to be yippy. They are made to signal intruders. My Aunt’s lahsa would bark at everything. Most annoying thing, he would bark aggressively every time someone left the house. Weird.

Any dog can be trained. But it’s a lot of work (and a lot of attention and tough love) by the owner.
If you can’t do the work and give the attention, don’t get a dog.

Or a baby, but at least they bark less.

We were just discussing this last night. My gf found a dog that she thinks would work out well with our pack. One of our dogs is very old (16), another is eleven, and we want any new dog to have the opportunity to learn from them.

Yes, a new dog is a ton of work, but it’s maybe 6 months of work followed by many years of reaping the rewards of that work.

Oh, she wanted it to be yippy. She used to be single and even now, I think it gives her a sense of security to have a dog that alerts her to visitors.

The wind turned and the evacuation order was lifted. Because nobody really believes the wind won’t revert to its normal direction for the summer, we all drove to our friend’s place and loaded all 4 cars, then brought it back here.

OMG, their stuff stinks. All of our cars stink. Our house stinks and its over 100F, so we can’t open the windows.

Well it only took two fucking days but I finally was seen for my hives. Now I’m just waiting on the prescription. Grr.

You know this pisses me off especially because the current overtaxing of our health care system was completely avoidable. Thanks a lot you COVID-denying asshats.

I have a floor lamp with five bulbs, one of them just burned out. Turns out it’s a non-standard bulb that doesn’t exist in stores. I’m going to have to run to a bulb store and see if they have any.

My 91 year old father-in-law went in for surgery last Wednesday to have a large amount of skin cancer removed from his face. The surgery went well, but there were some complications later in the evening with blood pooling/not draining and it was touch-and-go there for a while. We weren’t sure if he was going to make it through the night. But he did, and has been steadily improving ever since. The hospital is ready to let him go, but they have been wrangling with the insurance company for two days now, waiting for them to approve a rapid recovery center that they can move him to. They haven’t said no, but they sure are dragging their feet with their approval. What, do they expect a 91 year old man who’s had major surgery to just go home and take care of himself? Grrr… :rage:

Check this place. If they don’t have it…https://www.batteriesplus.com/?locationofinterest=&locationphysical=9031176&utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=ecommppc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg5f79N2a8QIVYgytBh3v7Ak3EAAYASAAEgJ0i_D_BwE

Going back to the dog thing, I’m quite miffed that the Westminster Best of Show went to a useless little fluffball. When is the Basset Hound gonna win, dammit? They’re the best dogs ever!

I mini-pit the post office for posting :slightly_smiling_face: their hours but not mentioning until you’ve waited in line and gotten to the counter that they stop taking registered mail before that.

Went to the little postal station across from my office after 5p but well before the 5:30p closing. No dice, stopped taking registered mail at 4. Walked to the downtown post office, closing time 6p. Got into line before 5:30 but didn’t get to the counter until shortly after 5:30. Guess when they stopped taking registered mail?

Awesome, thanks.

They are certainly the strongest smelling competitors.

The first part of your rant is absolutely spot-on! That fluffball thing isn’t even a dog!

But the second part … meh! Basset hounds are fine as far as hounds go, but they’re hounds, dammit! Give me well-bred, well-trained working dogs bred for intelligence: the Bernese Mountain Dog, the Labrador Retriever, the Border Collie, even the cloyingly sycophantic Golden Retriever instead!

A minor mini rant, it that’s possible. Me and my team have been working from home for 15 months. We are actually MORE available, and work longer hours. It’s worked very, very well.

But the powers that be seem to want at least one of us in the office one day a week and share, hot seat, hotel or whatever you call it one workstation. Yeah, there are some reasons for this, but it’s mostly BS.

I invested ~ $2500 to be productive from home. And I am. I will be MUCH LESS productive if I have to go into their office.

I hot seated work stations years and years ago in a 24/7 shop. EVERYONE was sick. All the freaking time. I haven’t had so much as the sniffles for 18 months.

There is no need to change how we have done business for the last year and 1/2. It works very well.

Some DO want office space away from home for many reasons. Not enough space or whatever. But some of us have great set ups. My Wife has her own office. My Wife and I are DINKS. My Wife is welcome in my office loft anytime, but she hasn’t been up there for 8 months or so (“Could you sign this card honey? I need to get it in the mail”). I’ve no need to go to the ‘office’.

I think my boss, and my grand boss don’t have very good set ups at home, so they want to got back to the ‘office’. Have at it. I’m fine.

We have one of those! We got tired of searching for a bulb, and decided it worked fine with four bulbs, then okay with three… when it gets to one, we’ll think about a new lamp.

.

… which includes how well they get along with their families.

.

I mentioned in another thread how the regulars at my local pub each pick a dog and cheer it on. AND they criticize all the other ones. My favorite was the old guys claiming the fluffball needed a haircut, and yelling stuff like “Hey, Fifi! What’s wrong with looking like a DOG?”

Someone I really care about is blaming the Best in Show pushback on anti - Asian hate.

I think that’s a stretch. A very long stretch.

But I do think that little guy is cute.

Because of the semi-lockdown and schools getting closed, finances are tight for everyone. Yesterday, they announced that the pittance we are getting for the kindergarten online stuff is going to be calculated differently, so we get less per time. But it’s stupid because it doesn’t save the school much money. So they piss off the teachers for a few bucks a day.

Ads about “crepe skin” (don’t apply moisurizer, are you crazy?) that pop into my feed all the time lately. (Young people, if any: do you see these? Thought not.)

Last year it was ads for Grammarly in front of every YouTube video. Seems to have declined.
