At 1022pm it’s 86f.
Tomorrow, we’re supposed to hit 100f along with the dew point climbing through the 60’s.
This is not right.
Less than four months ago our high temperature for the day was -3f. My Sorrels are still in the breezeway. Last weekend the furnace briefly kicked on, and it was set at 64f.
Oh, ouch. The heat wave is happening here too, but at least its a dry heat. Hawhawhaw.
This COVID shit hubs is doing is downright embarrassing. Well, his whole anti-mask thing was so embarrassing that I didn’t go places with him unless they were drive through venues.
But now, when everyone with any sense in my social circle has been fully vaccinated for at least a month, I have to turn down invitations because “Sorry, we can’t attend because hubs has COVID.” The reply is always something like Oh, goodness, I am so sorry. How did that happen?" Nice, now I’m forced to admit that I married a dumbass.
According to the weather forecast for the next five days, when the heat wave peaks on Sunday I should be able to grill stuff on the barbecue without even turning it on. And I’m in Canada, FFS! The weather service is carrying a Heat Warning, as in “if you’re not careful this could kill you!”. It’s not even officially summer yet!
My iPhone 7 started having battery problems some months ago. As it is a 7, I had the feeling that fixing the battery would be only a short term solution, as I can probably only update the OS for another year, or even less.
So we both got iPhone 12s yesterday. As we were only using 63 GB (me) and 67 GB (hubby) of 128 GB, we settled for 128 GB for the new phones, as they didn’t have any of the 256 GB.
There’s some sort of setting, that if everything’s not lined up correctly, that iCloud tries to download as many photos into the phone as possible. Which meant my husband’s phone, not even 1 day old, started complaining about space.
So that took most of yesterday. Now everything’s fixed, and the new phones have the same about of empty space, but things shouldn’t be so complicated.
Thanks to both, I will look for that next opportunity. But I suspect that our marvelous higher-ups have disabled it like they have every other useful tool.
My cousin had her 1992 Honda CRV stolen. The police found it and she had to get it out of the police impound yard. But that is a separate rant.
The car was not drivable (they stole two wheels and the catalytic converter, among other shit I’m sure).
So, my cousin has been sort of managing taking the bus and cabs to work.
She has had AAA for 40 years, AAA would not pick up the car unless she met them there. A cab ride across town that she could not finagle at the time. She had to hire a towing company for $200 to go get it. So the police impound yard was not the problem. They didn’t need her there.
Sure AAA, policy, is policy. But anyone could see the situation. My cousin knows the VIN, and her AAA membership ID and still, AAA would not make an exception for the ‘need’ for her to be there.
Under the ADA your employer must give you reasonable accommodations to do your job. If you don’t see fine print that well on the screen, they can’t disallow a feature that allows you to see it.
My baby’s sick. I’m sick. My husband is getting sick.
Just canceled the pulled pork dinner plans with friends I haven’t seen since 2019.
Just told the new nanny she can’t start until next week, so that’s one more awkward week with the nanny we are about to fire.
Just asked to increase my hours at work this month because I have a federal grant due, looks like I’m going to have to walk that back and god knows how I’m going to get it all done now.
This Friday I’m supposed to see my Canadian friends and writers group for the first time since the state shut down. My Canadian friends are only in town for a wedding so there will be no future visits until the Canadian border re-opens.
All of our plans up in smoke.
Just when I was starting to feel optimistic about life.
I’ve got one of the Brome Squirrel Busters and while a Benjamin is a lot to drop on a bird feeder not having the squirrels waste half or more of the bird seed is saving me money in the long run. I fill mine with black oil sunflower seeds but I’m close to buying a nyjer feeder for the finches and nuthatches.
The A/C on the main floor has died. There is still A/C upstairs and in the basement, but guess where our bedroom is.
It really sucks because I had planned on making Chicken Parmigiano and fresh bread for dinner, but there is no way in Hell I am using the oven until the repairman gets here Monday.
Well, if you’re going to nitpick, September can be pretty damn warm, too. According to weather records it’s only slightly cooler than June around here, on average.
I was lounging in bed until late this morning with the window open, thinking that it seemed surprisingly cool despite the predicted heat wave. Turned out, it seemed cool because the A/C was blasting! Outside it was actually hotter than hell. There was also a window open in a front bedroom. That should do wonders for my electric bill this month!
It “only” hit 99f today. And I was out in it a good chunk of the day. Mowed part of the yard, stopped to help my brother in law to kindly put in the window aircon. The mower opted not to restart. Damn.
Mom then called. Her newfangled electric mower was confusing her, so off I went. Showed her for the fourth time how the battery went in, but hung around to make sure she was okay. Took over a few times, making her sit in the shade with water.
Only heard five paranoid theories today, which was nice.
Forgot a whole bunch of roads are torn up or closed for other reasons, turning the 15 minute drive home into a 45 minute start stop congested mess. I was not a happy camper by the time I arrived home.
Oh, and all this on a combined 4 hours of sleep, as the portable aircon can’t be plugged into my room, so it was miserable trying to sleep. Ended up dozing here and there on the too short couch with a fat cat trying to curl up on me.
So, due to communication issues, it turns out that I’m not getting Riley, I’m getting Cole. Third row, center kitten. He’s still getting a name change, but he won’t care. He’s a cat, cats don’t care with their servants call them. And he’s adorable.
The breeder did give me the choice to wait for the next batch of kittens, but I’ve never really held that color makes any choice in purrsonality.
BTW, I’d call you guys a bunch of weenies over the heat, but that would give you the right to call me a weenie when the temp drops to under 75F.
What did I say about communication problems, LOL!!!
You know how you can look at some pups and see a magnificent, intelligent, well mannered dog and others just look like they are going to be goofballs forever? It’s the same with cats and I think we are getting a goofball.
Hubs is feeling much better, I think he’s turned the corner. He still failed his COVID test today so is still on house arrest. He’s been entertaining himself by pointing out all of the breakable things I need to put away for a few years. He also seemed rather smug when he pointed out that I won’t be able to have fresh flowers on the kitchen island anymore.
I didn’t like last month much and I’m not sure how much of an improvement this month will turn out to be.
Cats eventually mature into manipulative domineering shrews. Yes, even male cats. It’s dogs that generally remain lovable loyal goofballs forever! As a sort of honorary dog myself, however, I admit to some bias in the matter.
ETA: But I can offer objective proof of my contention.
