Wow. Is that the “Music” app on your phone? iPhone, I assume, which version, and which iOS version?
I purposely haven’t updated in ages. partly because I have an older iPhone, but mostly because my old iTunes works on it well with the old iTunes on my old MacBook, and I don’t want to jinx anything.
But the instant I had that happen to me, Dr. D, I’d be googling the problem at Apple Support (they let experts bitch about their apps), and googling “music apps that aren’t made by Apple”.
Yes, the music app on the iphone, which I (probably foolishly) allow to update automatically. I have done some googling, but I’m waiting until term is over to do the full-on problem solving. My plan is to reorganize the music into folders of my own naming, finding a new app, and using Dr. Fone or some such to do the transferring.
The mini-rant is just because Apple is putting me to the trouble. Really, I should probably have been more on top of it all along, because I knew they weren’t providing a free service without cost.
Heh. You don’t have the right kind of Blue Jays. The ones here will climb right in. Last year I noticed the clear bird feeder tube (in the ‘squirrel proof’ feeder) was a weird shade of blue. When I got closer I realized there was a Blue Jay upended inside the feeder. I felt bad thinking it had suffocated itself in there. But when I tried to pull it out by the tail feathers it squawked and flew away when I dumped it out.
I went to Fry’s/Kroger grocery store a few days and when I was paying the cash register glitched, had to be reset, a manager had to get involved and I had to ran my card twice. Today we checked that account and found that the card had been charged twice. I went to the store to be told that they had no control over that and I had to call customer care. I called that number to be told that I should go to the store for a refund. I walked back into the store, found the manager who had told me to call customer care and handed her my phone and told her to work it out.
Long story short, it will be 7 to 10 days before I get refunded almost 240.00. Fortunately, we are in a position to be able to wait to get our money back, not everyone is that lucky.
tl/dr: don’t use plastic at Fry’s or Krogers unless its OK to be double charged and have to fight for a refund that will be promised to happen next week.
There must be some sort of documented phenomenon where even the mildest of annoyances have a cumulative effect that, if left unchecked, will one day drive a person mad, no?
At work I regularly must look up a client’s phone number and copy it into a form. The number is listed on the client’s main info page in what is, I’m guessing, a 3-point font. And the screen cannot be enlarged. And I have old eyes.
Part II of the irritation: Whomever initially enters the data is, 95 times out of 100, a lazy fuck who cannot be arsed to stick a couple of hyphens in the phone number.
So I repeatedly get to squint at a series of 10 microscopic digits and attempt to solve them while, simultaneously, resisting the urge to hunt down the lazy fuck and bloody their keyboard with their forehead.
Credit or Debit? If it’s credit I’d call the issuer, dispute the charge, and tell them WHY. There’s no way it should take that long to reimburse you.
Credit card companies have a lot of weight to swing around on behalf of their customers (which doesn’t stop them from also trying to rook you anyway they can in the fine print, but details), especially if they get lots of complaints about a particular vendor or store.
Your computer company shouldn’t “put you to the trouble”. In fact, many of us own Macs because there was “less trouble” than with Windows.
And, even if some of us use iTunes without buying anything, many of us have made enough purchases* from the iTunes store that it’s not a “free service” that Apple’s providing.
.
*I try to resist, I do, but they always get me with their sales: $10 audiobooks or $5 classic albums. Or those “box sets”… like the time they made me buy all eight Harry Potter movies for $35…
I would say that you’re out of your mind because nobody can make you do anything, but then I look at my game libraries with various vendors… And I don’t have a leg to stand on.
For the people having trouble with iTunes…I’m assuming you’re using a Windows computer? I still use an iPod for my music and podcasts, since my preferred phone is Android and I’ve yet to find an audio app that suits me. Knowing that iTunes would no longer be available to me if something happened to my Mac, I finally caved and updated my OS, which split my library between the Music and Podcast apps. All of my music files appear to be intact and in their original folders, although I inexplicably lost artwork off of about a dozen albums. My downloaded podcasts, however, have ended up in some obscure Library file. I guess most people stream podcasts instead of downloading them to a computer then transferring them to a phone? I also ended up with loads of duplicate podcast listings, which inexplicably disappeared after I restarted the computer. (In case you’re wondering, the bare bones of iTunes are now located in Finder; plug in an iPod, and it shows up in Finder, with tabs that allow you to select which music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. to sync.)
There is a magnifier app with windows unless the IT overlords have removed it for some reason. Just go to the start menu and type in ‘magnifier’ to find it and then right-click and pin to task bar.
It renders the screen double height and width by default and you just use the mouse to scroll around on it.
Thanks @Morgyn , I did use a credit card because we like the protections with them, so filed a charge back as soon as I got home.
Oh, high point in that conversation was the Fry’s/Krogers CSR asking me questions about the loyalty card used so she could track the transactions. She then asked what the last 4 numbers of the card was and I repeated that we didn’t carry the card, but here’s the phone number. She got a snarky tone and said that she was asking how I paid, did I use a debit card, a credit card or cash. I told her that I’m not stupid enough to hand over 240.00 twice, so obviously it was plastic and here are the last 4 digits.
My favorite Covidiot said he was feeling well enough to be allowed into the general public, so I took him into town to get tested. He fell asleep on the way there, went back to sleep in the parking lot, did a lot of fumbling around with the self test kit and slept all the way home. I fed him lunch and he slept three hours, then checked his email. The results were positive (meaning he was still shedding virus and not allowed in polite society), he’s sure they are wrong and he’s going to call and complain tomorrow.
Long haul COVID patients aren’t the only ones suffering, I’m gonna need a lot more beer if he’s going to survive this.
Getting the deck replaced. Contractor (finally) shows up to begin work. Tears off deck. “Oh, that’s not good.” “They aren’t going to be happy about that.”
The studs on the outside wall and the rim joist are basically rotted away. Floor joists have dropped 1/4" or more.
Looks like the root cause is that the chimney is pulling away from house, opening gaps that over the years allowed water in to rot everything away.
Contractor is recommending removing the chimney, and he’ll need to build bracing in the basement to lift everything up so that he can rebuild the wall and then gently drop it back down. And at this point we’ve only closely examined the side where the deck was. Probably the same problems on the other side.
The hospital system I work for got bought out by a Huge Conglomerate a couple of years ago and we’ve been shedding doctors ever since. Three practices closed in the last year and one currently has a part time PA two days a week until new MDs can be hired. It’s extremely frustrating on the back end as well, especially when we can’t tell patients where their old doctor went because we’re not high enough on the pay grade to know (there’s also a non-compete clause, apparently). Fortunately the latest exodus was just to another hospital system in the same area and we’re allowed to give out the new phone number/address.
Just another entry in the long, long list of how American healthcare is totally and completely fucked up.
And here I was thinking it was a good thing they’d wanted the deck, because otherwise they’d have no idea their chimney was about to destroy their house …
@Morgyn for the win - although selling before we knew any of this (and would have had to disclose) would have been the best choice (and very lightly considered before deciding to start updating everything).
Went in yesterday for a followup to my kidney stone treatment of two months ago (I had a stent placed in March, there was an infection, and then went back to have the stent removed and they were able to extract the stone at the same time). They did an ultrasound to see if there was any trace of kidney damage or another stone, and then I saw a urologist about possible lifestyle changes. I was told that I should discuss with my PCP whether I should continue taking the calcium supplements I’d been taking for years, and given a list of foods I should avoid or cut down on. Among the latter are tea; I just bought several boxes of tea, which I’ve started taking in place of coffee.
My PCP responded to a message I sent him and confirmed that I should stop taking the calcium supplements. Of course, I had just stocked up on them since I had been running low and CVS was having a sale.
I also need to go in for another iron infusion, because the blood test shows that my iron levels are low. I suppose I should be lucky they didn’t decide I needed to stop taking my iron supplements.
It has widgets! I get the feeling that not many people use these, but I loved being able to add playlist shortcuts from Google Play Music. Thanks for the suggestion!
