QFT, best point of the thread. The upside-down priorities are part and parcel with the prolonged exercise in projection, whereby Trump supporters–maybe the whiniest, sorest winners in history–characterize anyone who criticizes Trump as a “snowflake” and cry-baby.
Let’s say a person uses the term “retard” to insult people he doesn’t agree with. Then he uses the term “retard” specifically directed as someone who is handicapped.
That doesn’t mean that the person isn’t making fun of that handicapped individual’s disability.
Remember a week or so ago when Trump said that Putin was smart to not react to Obama’s sanctions for the Russians interference in our elections? He essentially said that this Russian dictator was to be commended for not taking the bait and making something into a bigger issue than it deserves to be (a position I totally disagree with, BTW).
Why the fuck can’t Trump take his own advice and not take the bait on every. single. fucking. thing. that someone says about him?
On my FB feed, people are taking up the trump banner as well, calling actors “play actors” and such similar putdowns. Like they despise Hollywood and all its people as being beneath contempt. Mere children.
I hope they take it to heart, and quit watching movies and TV shows. Just throw their TVs away! I mean, it’s all a bunch of play actors, right? Why would anyone bother?
But I doubt they will. GoT is on!
I thought the OP was a parody. I was wrong, but still LOL
You might gain a lot from some training on reading comprehension. Two important points you should try hard to keep in your incontinent brain:
#1: I didn’t say that; The OP did. Please be more careful with your attributions.
#2: The OP’s omission of any affirmation of Ms. Streep’s rights under the law does not constitute a denial of those rights, except in the most paranoid minds. My position remains: nobody in this discussion has challenged Ms. Streep’s right to speak her mind, and anyone in this discussion who reflexively asserts her right to speak is arguing against nobody in particular.
I’m thinking two maxims here:
-
Time and place. There is certainly a time and place for criticizing politicians. No one, I hope, is trying to suggest that criticizing the president is always out of place. We have any number of political venues, in the media and in our daily lives, to do so. At a Hollywood awards show? IMHO, not the right place. Anyone else’s MMV.
-
The “don’t do something that, if everyone did it, would kinda ruin things” maxim. Cut in line? Hey, it’s just one place. But what if everyone did it? Now, what if every single celebrity who ever accepts an entertainment award decides to pontificate about his or her political views? I’m not big on watching such shows in the first place, but that would definitely turn me off to them for good.
STOP? No, this isn’t Nazi Germany, I will express my opinion and listen to yours.
I posted a video that seems to say that he mocks everybody like that who is caught off guard, but you go ahead and believe what you want to believe.
But don’t ever tell me or ANYBODY to stop, Herr Hitler
Have you read your own OP? The one where you complain about somebody saying something you don’t like and telling them to stop?

Well, let the free-market do its thing then. If enough celebs go political, and enough people stop watching and stop sharing clips millions of times on social media, they’ll make a rule. Until then, many people seem to have welcomed MS’s speech. Plus, it’s done exactly what she intended: Get people talking about it for two-plus days. Millions of people who never watch one minute of award shows (like yours truly) have now seen this, have now been reminded of how petty and childish our soon-to-be occupant of the WH is, and brought international attention to the Committee to Protect Journalists at a time when the media is under direct attack by Trump and his stooges.
It’s not like it was a totally unrelated rant. It was about how acting and empathy are linked, how multicultural Hollywood is, and that art can be used to inform and convey varied experiences. And, in her opinion, the need for artists to utilise that power is rising rapidly due to Trump’s behaviour.
If everyone gave an acceptance speech as articulate and thoughtful, it’d only ruin awards shows by making them worthwhile.

I’m going to repeat my earlier point. It is important at this time in America for all of us to constantly speak out at every opportunity. Mr. Trump and his need to be fully aware of a loud and organized opposition so they don’t for a minute think they have a mandate or the support of the majority of the country. They need to be mocked, challenged, and held accountable.

Well, I guess I won’t be inviting you to speak at my nieces wedding…
I thought the Right admired the trait of talking straight and saying what you think flat out.
And loathed political correctness?
If only Scott Baio and Chuck Norris weren’t constantly shut out of the Golden Globes because of politics…

Well, I don’t know if you are addressing me or some other random “conservative all you alls”…
But yes Virginia…there IS a difference between say WTF you think anytime/anywhere and NOT doing so…
PS… I LOVE the fact the liberal radicals here on the Dope are having an existential melt down.

I guess every day at 3:00 a.m., Trump gets invited to the Twitter Awards.

Well…at 3am HE is still the Elect POTUS/soon to be actual POTUS…
How’s that working for you or Hillary?
Exactly as well as it worked out for you. Some of us are just smart enough to realize it.
Hmmm.

You guys keep running your victory lap but the game hasn’t even started yet. All Trump’s done so far is win the election. Now he’s going to have to be President for four years.
Trump is standing on the edge of the greatest challenge of his lifetime. And he’s looking sweaty and nervous.

You just chose a dysfunctional nut-bar to be in charge of the lifeboat. Now he’s drilling holes in the bottom and all you have to say is “Ha ha, your choice lost! Now you’re going to sink in this boat!”
The real funny thing is that you don’t even have a life jacket, and the rest of us will be watching you tread water until you sink beneath the waves (probably laughing at us all the way)
How’s it working out for you?

At this point I don’t care how it works out for me.
He’s my president. He’s your president.
New’s flash…he’s also OUR president. And THE president.
The fact it freaks some of you right the fuck out is icing on the cake. Because liberal extremist jackholes and liberal elistist smuggness is why this jackass got elected in the first place.
Great work guys.
