I’m just confused now.
So Meryl spoke her mind about some THING at the Globe Awards, Bill Clinton anally raped a 13yr old and Hillary got pissed-on by a Russian ?
Yeah?

Yeah?
Actually I think Hillary held down the 13 year old, and Obama got pissed on by a Russian while Trump watched and laughed.
But Bill?

…anally raped the 13 year old. Sorry, I thought that was so well factually established that it went without saying.
Must have missed that one. Thanks for bringing me up to speed.

You’re to be commended for saying you may be wrong.
On Streep: being inconsistent is different from being wrong. Sure, maybe Streep shouldn’t have dignified Polanski, a known child rapist, with kind words. And let’s just stipulate for the sake of discussion that if Hillary Clinton had been the one to mock a disabled reporter and go on to win the presidency, Streep would have let it slide, or wouldn’t have made a big sanctimonious speech about it on TV.
So let’s say (for the sake of argument) that Streep is a hypocrite.
Well, guess what? She’s still right that Trump’s behavior was reprehensible. People who want instead to focus on the inconsistencies of the messenger are using an ad hominem attack to (fallaciously) dispute her argument, and/or they’re trying to deflect attention away from the subject at hand, which is Trump’s reprehensible conduct.
And since we can’t count on Trump supporters ever saying one critical word about their guy, the task of calling him out on his mean-spirited and juvenile bullshit falls on people who didn’t support him in the election. And then when they do so, they get mocked and derided as sore losers and cry babies. Maybe if the people who supported Trump would show a little more capacity for impartiality, these things wouldn’t have to divide so neatly along partisan lines.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even actresses and if her acting provides her a megaphone to magnify her speech that’s fine, she is no worse than Kim Kardashian or Kanye West, and she is probably at least a bit better. I think you meant to pit all the people who are making a big deal out of her speech as if she were fucking yoda.
Hahahaha. Get well soon. ![]()
How’s the painting coming along?
SHE’S FUCKING YODA?!?!?!?
Yoda is a puppet. That’s just sick.
Isn’t that why Mickey divorced Minnie? He found out she was fucking Goofy.
Streep’s “performance” was excellent. The other play actors in the room should give her another award. Streep cried on cue, she appeared angry right on cue, her voice quivered at just the right moments. What a great actress.
OTOH, I agree with Alfred Hitchcock.
Play actors. Do you think you all are being clever with that?
Surely I’m not the only one who read this and thought koufax was alluding to Trump, right? Or is the inception-style nightmare that we’re all living in deeper than I thought?
Very true. In addition to formulating some intelligent and insightful opinions about Donald Trump, Streep also delivered those opinions in a skillful and persuasive manner during her speech.
Not sure why you seem to think that that constitutes a criticism of Streep.
Most Trump supporters seem to imagine that since they’ve already forgotten all about the numerous allegations of sexual assault against Trump, everybody else must have forgotten them too.
IOW, people dumb enough to forget that their house is glass don’t see any reason not to throw stones.
Very well-said.
Play actor/actor/actress, what different does it make? You do know what they do for a living, right? They pretend to be someone other than who they actually are. They are trained to read the words of others. They are trained to emote on cue. They are one part of a stage play/movie/television show/advertising commercial production.
Streep’s ability to play act can make people believe many things. Streep didn’t actually have to chose which of her children she should keep with her, and which should go with the Nazis. Streep didn’t actually come back from the dead. Streep didn’t actually screw so many men that she couldn’t remember which one was the father of her child. Those were movie rolls.
I don’t put a lot of faith in the words of play actors. They have spent too much time learning to convince others that they are someone other than who they are. Personally, I don’t trust play actors to do anything other than to act in plays, movies, and commercials. YMMV.
Streep chose to attack Trump. Trump chose to counter-punch. The Hillary worshippers condemn Trump for defending himself. SSDD.
All I can say is I’m sorry Streep’s heart wasn’t kind of broken when she learned of the real life drugging, vaginal and anal rape of a 13-year-old girl. Instead, her heart has been kind of broken over the fate of the rapist.
Here’s a link to some Youtube videos in which Meryl (“I’m really sorry he’s in jail”) Streep goes on record defending and declaring her love for Roman Polanski.
And here’s a video of the award show, [1:19] in which Martin Scorsese, Jack Nicholson (in whose house the rape occurred, btw) and Meryl Streep among many others determinedly and with a zest and conviction aimed squarely at his detractors, applaud Polanski for winning the award. As the clip’s admittedly tightly wound and somewhat annoying narrator nonetheless rightly comments, “This is Hollywood!”
Poor Meryl’s heart. I guess in her case art truly does, ahem, trump all.
