Hey meryl streep, you are a play-actor, nothing more

You would tell her – or anybody else – to stop?

If producers are so smart, why do they hire big name actors when actors are a dime a dozen? Seems they would get bigger profits by casting people off the street.

I actually don’t give a flying fuck about Trump’s feelings. For my own I do and I am fed up to the fucking back teeth being lectured by actors and pop singers about the world’s woes. Stick your opinions up your pampered asses. If you want to talk politics or the environment go do it in the appropriate places, don’t hijack an entertainment show to do it.

I’ll make my own mind up about Trump or Clinton, I don’t need Hollywood jackasses to tell me how to think. And if I hear Di Caprio whining one more time about the environment before swanning off somewhere in a huge environment-destroying jet I swear I’ll barf into my popcorn.

That what you don’t like has absolutely no bearing on what other people are both free and inclined to do. :dubious:

Even if Trump did a quarter of the ridiculous/criminal/unethical things he is either accused of or guilty of, it could be argued that it would be a tremendous civic hazard to have him in the White House. To have someone as our president who finds it acceptable to publicly mock ANYONE (with physical gestures and childish voices, no less), and uses this type of attack on a regular basis, both on Twitter and IRL, is something that needs to be called out loudly and often. Kudos to those with bully pulpits for using them. It keeps Trump’s bullshit out in the open and regularly discussed; anything that keeps us from forgetting what a piece of shit he is is OK by me.

You already said he mocked the guy in this thread. He did mock the guy, I don’t believe that part is in question. He shook his arms and mocked him with a ridiculous voice. If my kids repeatedly mocked people in that way, they’d be punished and told to stop. Trump does it and we elect him president, and then the shitstains come out in droves and say it’s okay that he mocks people because that’s just what he does.

And incidentally, you calling people you disagree with “Hitler” doesn’t help your argument either, dumbass.

Great hints for those who’ve never won an award. Streep has a houseful of 'em. And she wanted to remind the world (the Golden Globes represents the international press) that not all Americans were xenophobic, racist assholes.

Good for her. Trump & his minions need to get used to ridicule. Or–he could stop doing things worth mocking. Nope…

Because that would extend the story, obviously.

Mery Streep was honored by her peers, yet did not say one word about her own achievements. Instead she talked about empathy…BRAVO to Meryl Streep for staying classy!!!

“Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence invites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."–Meryl Streep
I’m gonna print that & hang it on my wall.

So edgy.

I honest to God do not understand this sentiment. What does her profession have to do with anything? What does anyone’s? You think because she is an actor, she is not an educated person with insights? That she doesn’t have passion for issues?

Just like if someone pulls a gun on you and demands your money, and you hand your wallet over without a fight, no crime was committed. After all, you gave him your wallet, so it was consensual.

Oh wait, you mean the mugger was coercing you using power he had over your life, and you decided to just give him what he wanted in the moment rather than suffer possibly worse consequences? Huh. Weird.

Eh. You say that because it makes you feel good. You might, however, ask yourself if it actually helps or hurts your cause. You might ask yourself whether those folks in MI, WI and whatnot are going to be influenced positively or negatively by folks like MS pontificating on awards shows. Because that’s the problem with too many Progressives-- they value feeling good over wining elections. You see it on this MB all the time.

I am beginning to suspect that Trump is a coke or meth-head. Who’s up at four in the morning tweeting random paranoid craziness?

Of course not. Neither does any of the whining in this thread. But I have no respect for the all too common hypocrisy of the opinion on this subject based on whether or not the person agrees with the political opinion contaminating their soup. I don’t go to a restaurant to hear a waiter’s political opinion, and I don’t happen to tune into the Golden Globes while flipping through the channels at the inopportune time to hear Ms. Streep acting holier than thou. Or perhaps I’ve mistaken her for another lily white actress of the same name who felt that there was no lack of diversity in the judging at the Berlin Film Festival because “we’re all Africans really”.

From 101Trump Lies back in April 2016

How many lies has he birthed in the nine months since? If he does it “for anyone caught in a lie”, his alone could probably power a small city if we can convert his shaking to electricity.

Hear hear. Or here here, I forget which way that goes. But the whining is serving only the butthurt and their ilk.

“Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence invites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."–Meryl Streep
“Wahh, Meryl Streep was mean to my hero and Dear Leader Trump! She’s a terrible actress and a poopyhead!” - dumbass koufax

Just for argument’s sake, let’s all pretend to agree that actor’s shouldn’t use award shows to air their political views. Did MS say anything untrue or immoral? Do you not think it’s inappropriate for a so-called grown man - never mind that he’s about to hold the highest political position in the country- to mock people and basically comport himself like a child?
Do you disagree that bullying and abuse of power are bad things? What precisely did she say that you don’t agree with?

I don’t disagree with you.

I was going to be charitable & say that the 70 year old man gets up to pee at 3AM and tweets because he’s grumpy that his Prostate made him get out of bed.
(…maybe its YU-uuuge…?)

That might happen even if he wasn’t using coke, but President Elect “Bright Lights Big City” seems to exhibit clear signs of better living through creative chemistry.

SNIFF

Well actors are artists working in a very public sphere. Artists are supposed to challenge things.

Who would want to watch any show where the artists honored were not free to speak about the world given their minute or two?

Suck it up and stop pimping your world view as if you are delivering any kind of common sense. You aren’t.
