I’m sort of relieved that it is - although the newer story also mentions Hampden-Sydney in Virginia, which is, believe it or not, where Stephen Colbert started college. Threads merged.

In a very brief discussion with a guy in line at the store earlier this week, he said that he expected Black to riot no matter what happend, and was surprised when they didn’t.
“Hey, they riot and burn shit down when their basketball teams win. Why woudln’t you expect a riot when they hold the presidency?”
I quickly changed the subject, but I have to admit… he had an inkling of sense.
That being said, he was still a shitbag because he seemed to think of Basketball as a “black” sport, and the only people that really watch it are those inner city blacks…
Please expand on this… because he sounds like a brainless cretin.
Can you point me to any sports riot where the majority of the perpetrators weren’t white? Just curious.

That’s where I got my example from but he’d only asked for one so I didn’t link the whole list but it’s pretty interesting.
For the record, I pointed out to him that the pictures of sports riots I see are usually very multi-ethnic, with drunk white frat boys trying to dance on top of cars all the damn time.
He replied something about the Media not telling the “real story”.
I no longer engage this particular individual in discussion if at all possible.
The subject of the OP was riots here in the States. (You know, the only place that matters. Maybe you didn’t get the memo?)
But seriously, I’m looking for instances of sports riots in North America where the rioters weren’t primarily white. Even in Detroit, the sports riots after victories have involved substantial numbers of white guys.
And a little research gave me my answer. The recent Lakers riots here in LA were mostly Latino, with a substantial black participation. Not too many white guys at all. Although, that doesn’t work to support the claim that only or primarily black people riot afters sports events. Still a non-starter.
Riots in San Francisco following this years World Series. Gotta be at least a few Negroes in here someplace. Awful hard to find, though.
The 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup riot happened after the Canucks’ lost 4-0 to the Bruins’ in Game 7. The one day I was glad I wasn’t in Vancouver.
Sports riots seem to be a time when all races can come together.
Then and during Brotherhood Week.

The riots after the Rodney King beating… that is, accepting that the cops involved seemed to believe clubbing him senseless was a sport.
Most of the Mormons I knew wanted him to win because they would’ve voted Republican anyway. Two of the Mormons I knew wanted him to lose because they would’ve voted for Obama anyway. Religion didn’t seem to play into it much from at least my small sample size.
