The “for the time being” suggests a temporary cultural condition. And it should be admitted that Buckley wrote that in the 1950’s and may have later recanted. Nevertheless the full article does give a disturbing picture of on-going racism in America.

In 2008 and in 2012 we heard a lot of speculation about how that was going to happen if he lost. I can’t for the life of me understand why some people felt Obama’s supporters were more likely to riot than the supporters of any other presidential candidate.
