Hey Trekkies! The definitive Star Trek poll!

Hope this hasn’t been done before. I’m bored and can’t sleep, so here goes.

Acronyms:
ST = Star Trek (original series)
TNG = The Next Generation, second series
DSN = Deep Space Nine
STV = Star Trek: Voyager

I’ve broken the poll into categories, with choices listed by series in chronological order. (hey, I said I was bored) My personal picks are at the bottom of each category.

Best Captain/Leader person:
James T. Kirk, ST
Jean-Luc Picard, TNG
Benjamin Sisko, DSP
Katherine Janeway, STV

My choice: Kirk. He got more babes.

Best Second-in-Command:
Spock, ST
William Riker, TNG
Warf(?), DSN
Chakotay, STV

My choice: Spock. By far.

Character Who Would’ve Been Least-missed if Killed:
Pavel Chekhov, ST
Wesley Crusher, TNG
Quark, DSN
Neelix, STV

My choice: Crusher, narrowly beating out the last two.

Best Medical Officer:
“Bones” McCoy, ST
Beverly Crusher, TNG
Julian Bashir, DSN
EMH program (The Doctor), STV

My choice: The EMH. Robert Picardo (who plays him) is probably the best actor out of all who have played this role.

Best Sexpot:
Lt. Uhura, ST
Counselor Deanna Troi, TNG
Jadzia Dax, DSN
Seven of Nine, STV.

My choice: Uhura. I know a lot of people would say Seven of Nine is a slam-dunk, but Uhura’s outfit was just as tight, and it actually showed more skin.

Best Ship Design:

Star Trek: Voyager.

Best Engineer:
Scotty, ST
Jordi La Forge, TNG
Miles O’Brien, DSN
B’Elanna Torres, STV

My choice: Eh, who cares? No clear favorite here.

Since I actually know this much off the top of my head about Star Trek, am I know officially a loser? (Don’t answer that, it’s a rhetorical question.)

Best Capt.

While I’ve got a soft spot for Picard he does get to wishy washy with his “We have respect for all other races, lets not fight them” attitude so I’ll have to say Kirk aswell.

Best 2nd in Command.

Yep it’s got to be Spock. He’s a class act in TOS and the movies. Although he was only 3rd in the pecking order on the Enterprise I also really liked Data.

Least missed if dead.

Again I agree. Wesley was a little goody goody who should have had his head crushed in a unfortunate accident very early on in the run of TNG.

Best Doc.

The EMH is my fav. aswell. I like the way he uses a lot of ref.'s to bones though. "I’m a doctor, not a (fill in occupation to fit occasion)

Sexpot.

Dax. IF you are saying Uhura because of her costume, have you seen the one where she and the gang go back in time to the original Enterprise during the Tribble incident. Emmmm.

Ship Design

Again I agree. Voyager

Engineer.

Miles O’Brien. Well for one I’m Irish and love him as a actor. He is a interesting character and I like the vague homoerotic tension with him and Julian

Captain: Picard, I think he’s one hard nut.

2nd Officer: Spock, no contest whatsoever.

Doctor: Bones for his interplay with above. Let’s face it, no one’s going to die (except for the extras).

Engineer: Chief O’Brien. For the luck of the Irish.

Dead: Neelix, I hated him in Benson, and I still hate him.

Sex: Dax, yummy. Were there any sexy males at all?

Ship: TNG (no real reason).

You need a good villian as well…Any ideas?

Best Captain/Leader person:
James T. Kirk, ST
Jean-Luc Picard, TNG
Benjamin Sisko, DSP
Katherine Janeway, STV

Best Second-in-Command:
Spock, ST
William Riker, TNG
Worf, DSN
Chakotay, STV

Character Who Would’ve Been Least-missed if Killed:
Pavel Chekhov, ST
Wesley Crusher, TNG
Quark, DSN
Neelix, STV

Best Medical Officer:
“Bones” McCoy, ST
Beverly Crusher, TNG
Julian Bashir, DSN
EMH program (The Doctor), STV
D’oh. They’re all good! But EMH for ‘Message In A Bottle’

Best Sexpot:
Lt. Uhura, ST
Counselor Deanna Troi, TNG
Jadzia Dax, DSN
Seven of Nine, STV.

Best Ship Design:

There don’t seem to be categories here. I choose the Enterprise-D. (TNG)

Best Engineer:
Scotty, ST
Geordi La Forge, TNG
Miles O’Brien, DSN
B’Elanna Torres, STV

Captain: Kirk, by far. Better character. More decisive, more likely to get into interesting predicaments…

XO: Spock. Logical counterpoint to Kirk. Didn’t get filled with Angst about “becoming human”. Liked being alien.

Doctor: This is the only category with Competition. I have to go with Dr. McCoy first. (hey! He’s a graduate of Ole Miss! Class of 22xx I’m sure, tho…) He made the original series what it was simply by being Spock’s counterpoint. Second is the EMH “Doctor” from Voyager. Only reason to watch the show is when he’s on.

Engineer: Scotty! Duh! Ran rings around Geordi when the two met. No one else comes close.

Best Worm Buffet: Will Crusher. Thank God he quit/left/got fired when he did. Rumor has it he wasn’t happy with the character either.

Sex Interest: Jadiza Dax, followed by Uhura. Uhura had better legs, tho.

Ship Design: NCC-1701. Clean, Sparse, No frills. Looked like a naval ship. The “D” looked like someones Den on the inside, and looked like it’d been left in the Microwave too long on the outside. The “E” from the movie is light years ahead of the “D”. Hon. Mention to the Defiant, cute ship; small, to the point.

Villians:
Mudd : TOS
Q : TNG
Dominion : DS9
Who Cares?: VOY

Toss Up between Mudd and Q. Mudd caused more trouble without trying, tho. Q has to make an effort. I feel Kirk & Co wouldn’t have had as much problem with Q. [sub]They Didn’t, I still believe Trelane was a younger version of our Q.[/sub]

Best Captain/Leader person:
Katherine Janeway, STV

Best Second-in-Command:
Spock, ST

Character Who Would’ve Been Least-missed if Killed:
tossup between
Counselor Deanna Troi, TNG; and
William Riker, TNG.

Best Medical Officer:
“Bones” McCoy, ST

Best Sexpot:
Uhura, ST (yeah me too) or
Guinan, TNG

Best Ship Design:
tossup between Voyager and original ST

Best Engineer:
Lt. Montgomery Scott, ST

**Best Captain/Leader person:

Benjamin Sisko, DSP** - May I first comment that the show is usually abbreviated with DS9. I love Sisko. I want to be Sisko. His voice is usually what gets me. Also, all of the people in your categories were Captains. Sisko got promoted during the run of the series.

**Best Second-in-Command:

William Riker, TNG** - My pick, because he seems the most fun loving.

Warf(?), DSN - It’s Worf, and he’s not the second in command. Kira Nerys is. Worf is the Chief of Strategic Operations (or something), and didn’t even get to DS9 until the fourth season.

**Character Who Would’ve Been Least-missed if Killed:

Pavel Chekhov, ST** - He didn’t do much, did he. If Wesley was killed off, who would be left to make fun of? I would miss Quark, and I also like Neelix.
**Best Medical Officer:

Julian Bashir, DSN and EMH program (The Doctor), STV** - Two way tie, but just narrowly beating out Crusher.

**Best Sexpot:

Jadzia Dax, DSN** - I’m female, so I would have a different selection for the most sexy, but Jadzia is my fave out of these.

**Best Ship Design:

DS9 - The Defiant**. You gotta love the cloaking device.

**Best Engineer:

Scotty, ST and Miles O’Brien, DSN** - Another two way tie. Scotty always got everything done in half the time (although he explained why on a TNG episode) and Miles is just… just… well, I love him, anyway.

Let’s try not to even comment on how much I know about ST.

Sorry, missed the best villian.

Villians:
Mudd : TOS
Q : TNG
Dominion : DS9
(May I suggest The Caretaker for stranding them out there): VOY

The Dominion nearly took over the Alpha Quadrant. I think that should qualify them for something.

If you’re going for specific characters, I would pick Dukat for DS9. Muli-layered character, showed up in more episodes that Mudd, Q and the Caretaker put together. He was crazy, but not always predictable. Excellent in the episode where he and Sisko are stranded on a planet, and he keeps hallucinating and seeing people taunt him. You could smell the tension, and watch the horror grow on Sisko as Dukats mask of sanity slips away.

sigh

I really should have had this all in ONE POST!!!

I just noticed that you abbreviated TOS (The Original Series) as ST. Technically, all the shows are ST. That’s why the original series is referred to as TOS.

Ok, now I’m done, even if I notice something else.

Yeah, he was a fun guy to watch. I’d forgotten his name until you mentioned him.

I mostly agree with lolagranola save these points:

#1:

Chakotay/Kira tie - Best compliments to their respective Captains.

Worm-food:

Crusher - Just because he’s a crappy actor…Although once they got him off to the Accademy, the character became moderately interesting.

Engineer:

Miles, all on his lonesome - He kicks ass, it’s simple as that.

Villain:

Well, I totally agree with her on the Dominion and Dukat being the best of the bunch, but I just have to say that Dukat’s progression from self-absorbed political snake, to admirable rebel, to religious zealot, to essentially the Anti-Christ (to Sisko’s Christ) is one of the most interesting aspects of the show to watch.

(BTW, I’d put Ezri above Jadzia in the babe category, but just sticking with the choices we’re given, Jadzia’s pretty attractive anyway…It’s the spots…)

I never thought of a Best Villain category, but it’s a good idea. I would pick Khan as well. He’s just so mean. I’m not sure if Q is even really a villain.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how many people agreed with me on Uhura as Best Sexpot, as well as all the posts favoring Dax.

And of course, hardly anyone has dared to suggest there was a better second in command than Spock.

Benjamin Sisko, DSP

Quark, DSN
Neelix, STV
—I have to put another choice in here…there was that really anoying guy from TNG that was only in a few episodes but gawd he was bad. Just did a search. His name was Reg Barclay.

Best Medical Officer:
“Bones” McCoy, ST
Beverly Crusher, TNG
Julian Bashir, DSN
EMH program (The Doctor), STV

** none… they all pretty much suck. Although if I had to I would say Bones. **

Best Sexpot:
Lt. Uhura, ST
Counselor Deanna Troi, TNG
**Jadzia Dax, DSN **
Seven of Nine, STV

Best Engineer:
**Scotty, ST **
Jordi La Forge, TNG
Miles O’Brien, DSN
B’Elanna Torres, STV

**Lets add another couple. Favorite episode and movie.

I would have to say…TNG. I don’t recall the title, but it is when the crew encounter an ancient probe but it sends a beam to Picard and he lives a whole lifetime on a planet that is drying up and dying. God that was a good episode.

Favorite movie: Tie between Insurrection and The Wrath of Kahn.**

I think “Insurrection” was the best movie by far, although I’d put Wrath of Khan second.

D’oh! Brain fart! I meant to say i though First Contact was the best movie.

All the captains are stiffs.
All the characters are like humans with one aspect removed, like they have no emotions, or they have no sense of humor.

Just once I’d like to see an alien like Robin Williams from Ork or John Lithgow from The Great Giant Head’s planet.

Doh! Don’t ask me how I forgot First Contact…definetly up there.

Best movie: Wrath Of Khan. Gave Kirk a real villain to fight. And Khan gave him a run for his money.

Episodes: Although my tastes tend to run on the comedic side (A Piece Of The Action and The Trouble With Tribbles from TOS and Trials and Tribbleations from DS9), The Inner Light was fantastic (that was the episode where Picard, as Kamin, lives his entire life on another planet). Patrick Stewart’s son played Kamin’s son in this episode. It was pretty darn awesome.
