Er, yeah. So I was really, really drunk last night. :smack: Cloud Maiden was even drunker, believe it or not. But it was fun - we had delicious martinis and talked about nothing for a couple hours. Of course, both of us suffered a bit this morning, but nothing a good breakfast and some coffee couldn’t fix.
Happy Firday everyone! Hugs for kai and all who need them.
I think he’s trying to say that “they” don’t give up and have to keep trying harder to make [something] for The Chosen. Or, you know, they can just give up.
The non-smart-ass answer would be to rewrite the sentence: “One thing they don’t do is give up. They have choices to make in life: To give up, or try harder.”
Grammatically, this clears things up a little. You’re on your own making any sense out of it.
Taxi - We had snow yesterday. Quite a bit of it. It melted as soon as it hit the ground, but it snowed for a couple of hours at least. Then it just turned into drizzle.
OK, so I passed ACLS. woot! I also rode my bike to the library (for some exercise and to exchange some books). We are suffering from a fruit fly infestation. I have made fly traps, and will purchase some more tomorrow. Lil f*@kers…hate insects IN the house. Outside, the only ones I kill are mosquitos and Japanese beetles.
Older kids are with my brother for the weekend down in Austin. They are taking the Segway tour of the city today. Longhorn game tomorrow. #2 son cried because he couldn’t go. (oops–but he couldn’t–too young). So, he’s off to the Museum of Science and Industry’s Star Wars thingy with his grandparents tomorrow. And I will be grocery shopping (there better not be any assbitches-see Pit thread) and homework. THIS is living!
Happy Firday Y’all! I propose that Firday be the Mumper name for the sixth day of the week from now on. I’ll leave it up to y’all to take the vote.
{{{kai}}} just cause it sounds like you need it.
gt sorry about your cousin.
If I missed anybody else, then, congrats, hugs, yays, boos, etc as needed. I woke up about half an hour ago so readin’ comprehension just ain’t my thing right now.
Now, for the big news. After tonight…

THIRD
SHIFT
FOR
DA
BEAR!!!
I’m just a wee bit excited. Too bad I am not more emotional. I’ll be on second starting Monday, which I don’t mind at all. As a matter of fact, I prefer second (3P.M. - 11:00 P.M.) over first or third (which I HATE!!!, in case I haven’t ever mentioned it before).
Ok, off to surf around the dope for a bit. Haven’t read much of anything outside of the MMP all week. Dinner is being brought to me courtesy of, I think, Papa John’s. At least I think that’s the place ol’ y’all know who has a coupon for.
I did start one–inside this MMP. So, that “taboo” is broken and now all hell can be let loose… Show us your baby pics or kindergarten pics and one of yourself now–coming soon to a new MMP. Sponsored by MCUNE.
You can thank me later.
Soon, I’ll need to head off to the store to buy a present for my mother’s 70th birthday. I don’t have a freakin’ clue as to what to get her.
Tomorrow we’re taking her to lunch at a restaurant down on the waterfront and then we’ll head back to her place for cake and stuff.
Tonight, Mr. Taters is having a guys night and will be going to a friends house for some poker.
I’ll start reading my new book, World without End, by Ken Follett. I really enjoyed Pillars of the Earth, so I’m hoping I’ll enjoy this one as much. I read Pillars years ago, though.
Hmm, I suppose I should get going. I really don’t want to, I just want to sit down and relax and enjoy the quiet time.
Yay for no more third shift!
Bother. I think my oven is dying. It refuses to go above 275F. I am still attempting to bake cupcakes. I think it’s probably the bottom element. I don’t know if I can replace it myself, or if I have to get a repair guy to do it. Are oven elements standardized?
At least I got most of the bread done. And now I know why it hasn’t been rising very high in the oven.
Upon further examination of the cupcakes I just cooked for forty minutes- the outsides are cooked, but the insides are gooey. Bother.
The Jetta is in the shop, and we’re pretty sure it’s going to be very expensive. **FCD ** said he was driving along, doing about 15MPH, when it suddenly made a loud and unnatural noise. He pulled over, turned it off, sat a bit, then tried to turn it back on - nada. I had noticed the last few days that the diesel exhaust smell was particularly strong, but we don’t know if that has anything to do with anything. Fortunately, we have a spare vehicle. Unfortunately, the shop is by NASA Goddard, which is far away from home, so when the car is finally fixed, we get the hassle of claiming it. Oh well… Maybe it won’t be too expensive. Maybe. Ya think??
We stopped for late lunch/early supper on the way home. The critters have been fed, and in a little bit, I’m going to do some underglazing. I’ve also got to pick out a few pieces to take with me tomorrow - my mom is going to help me put some holiday arrangements into some pots for my next craft show. I may take some pieces to give to my old classmates also - I gotta get rid of some more stuff.
But first, I need to finish reading the comics. And Dear Abby.
Incidentally, congrats, swampster, for escaping the shift of the damned!!
Ya know, there’s a couple folks on third shift I’m gonna miss. They really kept me entertained in the break room. Mind you I won’t miss 'em enough to want to stay on third shift, but miss 'em I will.
Pizza and sallit (sallit left from last night) is et. Ol’ y’all know who is relaxin’ in the bath tub cause he wanted jets and bubbles. He’s so cute sittin’ in there all covered in bubbles. I brought him a beer in a frosted mug to sip upon whilst he relaxes cause I’m all nice and stuff, dammit! I foresee boomboomchickachickabowbow within the hour.
Strangely, no. You can pick up universal stovetop elements but not oven elements for some reason. But, they’re easy-peasy to swap once you get it.
Kill the power to the oven.
Open oven door.
Remove two screws holding element mounting plate to back wall.
Tug the thing out to reveal two wires under screw terminals.
Unscrew them.
Remove old element.
Put in new element.
Screw down the wires.
Push element back in against the back wall.
Replace two screws holding mounting plate.
Close oven door.
Turn power back on.
The new one may smoke or smell a bit at first, but that’s normal.
McUne: I’m signing you up for November 19th. Does that work for you?
I had the very best surprise today. It’s my birthday tomorrow, so my two closest work friends were taking me out to lunch. When we got to the restaurant, it turned out that there were more people involved. My boss and all my direct reports had conspired with them to take me out to lunch. And they put us at a table that was behind a column, so I didn’t see everyone till I was getting to the table. It was a really nice group (one of my ex-employees was also invited) and we had a great time. I even got a free dessert (with a candle on top) to share with everyone. It was a nutella-filled bread pudding with a caramelized banana on top. Very very yummy.
Congrats on the escape, swampy.
Very nice stroller, LiLi. You have marvelous in-laws.
Sorry about the car, FCM. Hopefully it was something simple and surprisingly cheap.
So, did anyone notice that it’s now called Firday? I think there was an official declaration somewhere.
Guess I should figure out what I’m taking to the little brother’s house tomorrow.
Many Happy Returns of the Day,** GardenTraveler**
Didn’t mean to take a nap, but did. Now must do homework. I was thinking of having Brownies for dinner. Please advise. Merci.
