High Speed Internet

I’m sure this has been posted recently. But I don’t have time to search, as Mr Winnie is breathing over my shoulder saying “post it, post it!” There’s a good chance that our internet access will be cut off at any moment.

Mr Winnie and I recently moved. In our previous home, we had Sprint Broadband internet access, and we were happy. Now that we have moved, a mountain blocks the way to the antenna we used to access. This means that, for the next year or so, we need to find another high-speed provider.

Nationally (US) - what are recommendations for other possible high-speed providers? And, when I say HIGH speed, I mean - high speed. DSL isn’t fast enough. Cable modem - just barely. I’m spoiled. Sprint provided a MINIMUM 700kps to 1.3kps. (Our personal, verified Ping rate).

Anybody have any recommendations for other providers?

Since you’re looking for recommendations and not facts, I’ll move this thread to IMHO.

Well, I will say I have good luck with Qwest on their DSL Pro Delux package. I know you are not looking at DSL but if you are willing to pay the extra cost you can go with Qwest’s flavor of DSL that is up to 7M…of course the cost is high but if that’s your only option then you gotta pay to play. And NO you don’t have to go with MSN. I am a home subscriber and told them I would never use MSN as my provider.

In the few times I have had problems, I have had prompt and decent service unlike my father’s Adelphia cable internet service. Their support line is inferior and down times can be a serious problem because they don’t seem to know when they actually have an outage. I have called them for my father’s connection more than I have for my DSL with Qwest and have spent oodles more time than I have on my own.

If you can’t get cable and you can’t get wireless then your only option is DSL and Qwest’s DSL has been very good for me.

If you want more information, drop by http://www.dslreports.com and search through your options. You will get a good scope of what is available, what people have had to put up with and such. It’s basically a site for all high speed access and not just DSL.

Oh and BTW, IMHO, having your service through one provider and one provider only (aka DSL and the actual ISP) for me seems to be the way to go. Only one contact point and only one service to work with if something goes wrong.

Damn, forgot the link I was going to provide:

No real info for you, but you might want to check out http://www.dslreports.com which, despite its name, covers more forms of broadband than just DSL.
