Hilarious company "Earth Day" giveaway

I work for a very large company. Today, in honor of Earth day, the PTB passed around small wall calendars celebrating Earth day. The calendars are from April - April. I thought it was a hilarious waste of paper, primarily because I already have a wall calendar at work, which I got in Dec/Jan, like a normal person. Just seemed like a huge waste of paper for an occasion that is supposed to honor NOT wasting resources.

I thought that Earth Day was related to the equinox or something.

Do you work for an engineering company with a color in the name?

The company I used to work for did an April - April calendar for years that they handed out around Earth Day. (I don’t know if they still do this.) It was usually an attractive poster and they had t-shirts for the employees with the same photo theme. The posters/calendars were sent to clients, business contacts and potential leads. Once people get used to it, some used it annually knowing the next year one would come along that continued the sequence. Mostly people I talked to didn’t give a rip, but that didn’t stop the company from thinking it was a great idea.

There were a few implementation problems. One was that the first year they just had the calendar go from April to December. It was a notable flop.

The other problem was that in practice, the company didn’t do much for the environment beyond what was required by laws on civil engineering design projects. However, what passed for marketing decided that they would make themselves out to be an environmentally friendly company which most people acknowledged was BS.

The t-shirts come in handy now when I do painting, yardwork or other grunge jobs. I guess with the yardwork it sort of environmentally related.

Cunctator, in the US April 22 was designated Earth Day in 1969 to raise environmental awareness. Here is the obligatory Wikipedia link.
