I couldn’t do it, but I think it’s no big deal for someone who’s experienced in photoshop to add a blotch of paint, so no need to mess around with the walls.
ETA: beaten by Moonlitherial.

I call shennanigans. Those shots and the whole layout look way too professional to be real. The “family” look like they came right out of central casting. It looks too good to be true.
It’s probably some kind of viral marketing thing.
Maybe Brandon wanted his sister to stay out of his room because he’s a neatnik and she isn’t?
.
I don’t know if it’s fake or not, but it’s still pretty durn funny.
I was wondering if that pink paint was the kind of paint that goes on pink and then changes to white as it dries so that you know where you painted already.
I’m skeptical this wasn’t staged and done professionally. That bedroom looks way to clean and nice.
They are very cute pics and the story about teasing someones brother makes me smile.
Did a similar thing to a friend of mine. He is a retired NFL HOF guy. He got tickets to last years Superbowl. We all watched the game at the garage where he stores his motorcycle. He is anal about the bike, and constantly warns people NOT TO TOUCH HIS MOTORCYCLE.
So, off and on throughout the game, we took pics of each other doing disgusting things like rubbing our penises on the rear view mirror, sitting on the bike pants-less, etc and sending the pics to his cell phone.
I don’t remember a single thing about the game.
i think there are enough signs that it’s fake, but still a funny enough premise overall. i mean, what household has a “do not disturb” sign just lying around?
Who says it was just lying around? If they went to this much effort to prank him, it’s not a big deal to find a store that sells those.
That said, it is likely to be faked or staged in some way other than claimed.
Mine. I’ve ended up with a few of them after business trips, and now one does appear on my bedroom door. It used to oog the kids out, but it’s become a permanent fixture, not a sign of shenanigans-in-progress.
It does have a very professional appearance, but the Toy Story pic makes me believe that it’s someone with professional skills pulling a private stunt. I tend to believe (perhaps irrationally) that pro’s would shy away from using Disneys characters in such un-Disney-like fashion for commercial purposes.
Crap. It hadn’t dawned on naive moi that it might be fake, but I’m suspecting you guys are right. There’s a polished professional look to the whole thing. But I hope it isn’t.
.
staged or not they are fun. love the leiderhosen.
They didn’t invade his room - they’re all unabashedly photoshopped. They do seem to have an unusual number of interesting photos to shop in, though.
Let me guess: You can tell from the pixels, right? While there are undoubtedly shopped elements to some of them (like the pink paint), for the most part, these would be a heck of a lot easier to just actually stage than to Photoshop. Why would they do it the hard way? Especially if they’re going to need to go into the room to take background shots, anyway.
Didn’t look beyond pic #1, but I TOTALLY concur with billfish! Unless his parents had reason to suspect he had weapons/drugs, it was a SIMPLE REQUEST!
Photoshop, eh? I was disappointed that I couldn’t enlarge the pic, to get a better look (I’m viewing on a small netbook), but I had the idea that they had tacked a strip of pink fabric to the wall to simulate paint.
I enjoyed the series, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if there had been a “slide-show” option for viewing.
I saw the facebook slideshow of this, and the mom said in the comments that for the paint on the wall, they taped up a piece of pink construction paper and smeared it in photoshop.
There are certainly elements that were photoshopped to make it all work (like the Open Mic Night sign on the window shade) but that doesn’t mean they didn’t actually do this. A bunch of commenters on the Fail Blog seem to think that since they made use of Photoshop, the whole story is fabricated. I guess it’s because regular folks don’t have image editing skills to draw on when pranking a family member so the whole thing must be a fake.
I don’t understand why anyone would think it was substantially photoshopped. They’d need to go into the room to take the pictures, and they’d need to stage the foregrounds. What’s the benefit of putting the foregrounds in front of a greenscreen or something and editing them in, as opposed to just staging them in the room to begin with? Either method is the same amount of physical work; why go to the extra computer work?
Did I miss the message or what was Brandon’s reaction when he got home and discovered what went on in his room while he was gone?
I’m torn between a) funny idea b) boundary & privacy issues c) the family is a bunch of attention whores.
If this kid keeps his room that neat that is disturbing.
Maybe they already had the background shots. I have several shots of my daughter’s bedroom because I needed them for a homeswapper website, and obviously her room was much tidier in those photos than it is in real life.
It’s not ‘the pixels’ or anything technical - it just all looks very photoshopped; I didn’t think they were trying to pretend they weren’t shopped. I mean, the polka one, do you really think they were all in the room? Me saying it’s photoshop isn’t intended as a criticism or to claim that it’s not a real prank.
No greenscreen would be necessary and it wouldn’t be that highly-skilled.
