Hillary, Hillary , Hillary [shaking head] Obama not a Muslim "...as far as I know."

This is Rovian shit, Hillary.

You do TOO know. I know you’re desperate but this is below the belt. If you had said, “Barack Obama is not and never has been a Muslim. I know that for a fact. Those smears are baseless and sleazy,” you would actually gain support, or at least good will. All this does is turn people off even more. Quit this shit. You’re better than this.

Yeah, I was pretty  .

After demonstrating, time and again, that she clearly is not better than this? You might as well say that, as far as you know, she can still turn over a new leaf.

Cite?

Shit like this makes many women I know, and a few men, pissed about the first woman who has a real shot at the WH is Hill. Of course, that might be a big part of why she has a shot.

Pretty lame of her. I don’t think she is better than that though. I DEFINITELY won’t be voting for Hillary if she wins…in fact, it might be the one thing that makes me actually consider voting for McCain.

Suggested response-

Obama: Hillary Clinton? No, she hasn’t dropped out of the race yet. But that’s only as far as I know.

I saw a headline about this before reading the text of what she said, and I mentally formulated what I would say. She said pretty much what I would have said. “The guy says he’s not a Muslim, so he’s not a Muslim. Who am I to say what religion a person is apart from what they say their religion is?” I didn’t see anything particularly controversial in her reply.

How could she honestly say she knows for a fact that he is not and has never been a Muslim? How can you say I’ve never been Catholic? How do you know who your daddy was?

I dunno about this one. Being a born lawyer and a politician, her mother tongue is disclaimer-ese. The “as far as I know” seemed to be one of those thoughtless throways that reflexively leaps out her mouth to make sure her ass is always covered.

Granted, I’m only going over the transcript. It’s possible the video clip is less permissive of this interpretation.

She knows his life story. She knows him personally. She knows that he’s had to deal with these stupid internet smears. She knows that he has clearly and categorically declared that he is a Christian and that he has never been Muslim. He has written extensively about his faith and his spiritual history in his books and spoken about them in his speeches. She knows for a fact that there is nothing to the smears. She KNOWS.

Her qualification implied a lack of absolute certainty on her part which does not really exist, and more subtly implied that Obama might just be a big fat liar…she can’t know for sure. She DOES know.

Thankfully, Hillary is not a big fat liar, and she’s not a child molester or a devil-worshiper – as far as we know.

I think she was following up her own line: “There is nothing to base that on”.

She made it clear that she didn’t think he was Muslim earlier in the exchange. It was just the way that Kroft kept asking the questions that led to “as far as I know.”

This is a very petty complaint. It seems that many democrats are over-protecting Obama, and it’s beginning to suggest that he’s not as strong as they think he should be. If so, maybe he’s not the right person for the job.

From the above link:

“And lest we forget this context, from the perspective of Obama supporters: two Clinton campaign volunteer coordinators in Iowa were asked by the Clinton campaign to resign after it came out that they had circulated those insane Obama-is-a-Muslim-Manchurian-candidate emails.”

But maybe it should be a talking point that Obama is just too sensitive about these sorts of greasy slurs.

Whereas Hillary Clinton is ready to leap out of the box on Inauguration Day and be insensitive right away. :dubious:

Nah, if she were a devil-worshiper she’d be ahead in the delegate count.

I don’t see it either. She’d been as categorical as you could ask, and the interviewer just kept pushing. I don’t see how anyone could watch that video and genuinely think she was trying to sow the seeds of doubt in anyone’s mind. But then we’re well in to the silly season, so what do I know?

But that’s what she said. “As far as I know” means it’s what Hillary knows.

If someone asked me similar questions about my own family I’d answer them the same way.
Is your father a nazi? Not as far as I know.
Was your mother ever a prostitute? Not as far as I know.
Is your brother a terrorist working for Al-Queda? Not as far as I know.

I just don’t see the problem in her response.

“As far as I know” implies that’s what I consider to be the truth based on what I know and have been told until a credible source tells me differently.

I swear people are making something out of nothing here.

She said “Of course not.” He pressed her. She said “There’s nothing to base that on, as far as I know.”

How can she be so intimate with the knowledge of the guy’s life to say anything more than “He says he’s not a muslim, so he’s not a muslim.” Maybe there’s something in her inflection that doesn’t come through in the written transcript, but there’s just no substance to this criticism based on the transcript. She couldn’t be more dismissive of the matter to begin with, and happens to add a true statement, “as far as I know” to her own statement that there is nothing at all to base this on.

It isn’t like they’re discussing whether he’s a terrorist or pedophile or what not. How do I know that you never toyed with Scientology? How do I know you’ve never been a Chicago Bears fan? If you say you haven’t, that’s good enough for me, but I’m just going by your word. As far as I know.

Senator Clinton has been interviewed often enough to know that when a question keeps on being asked, you don’t modify your answer. You just keep on giving the same answer, or you respond by saying, “You’ve already asked that question three times, and my answer remains the same. Now, can we move on to something else?”

I understand that she denounced the rumors, but she really should have rejected them.

Is it your opinion that being a muslim like being a child molester or devil-worshipper?
