I think there is that much news, actually. It’s just not all happening in the US, and it’s not all easily condensed into 30 second segments. I can listen to WNYC(AM) or WHYY for hours and not get bored.
Why would anyone put up with this kind of programming? Does anyone here actually watch this shit?
(Sorry for the double post.)
Yes. I meant to say that there isn’t 24 hours worth of news that enough people will actually watch to justify showing it. Or at least that is what the execs must think. I have no idea if people sit and stare at the TV for however many hours they camp outside MJ’s house, but it seems to me that they wouldn’t show it if people weren’t watching. Ratings are everything to these guys, since that translates to advertising dollars. Of course, maybe no one has yet had the courage to go against the conventional wisdom and try for some really smart programming. OTOH, how many people watch C-SPAN?
If Obama was a homosexual crack smoking Muslim communist as his detractors allege I would be forced to vote for him come November. Fortunately, the truth is much more pedestrian which means I can avoid the lines.
Actually, I think this is probably the most accurate interpretation of her response to a question. She has to couch all her responses so that she can’t get nailed if she is wrong. Her hubby did it just as well with the whole, “Depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is,” shtick. Unless she has the information in front of her, notarized and verified with 10 videotapes and 100 eyewitnesses she will continue to give CYA responses. She doesn’t want someone to come to her later and say, “Aha! You said he’s not a Muslim but we have proof. You lied! What else have you lied about? Huh?”
The question was stupid, she was pushed to give a response and is made to look shifty or underhanded. I don’t like her but she was essentially framed.
I probably like Hillary less than anyone here, but this whole thing is ridiculous. The thing that stands out for me is the fact that the “as far as I know” is not answering the question of whether Obama is a Muslim, but whether a person might HAVE A BASIS FOR BELIEVING SUCH. (And she said, no, as far as she knew)
Big difference. If someone out there thinks Obama is a Muslim, I certainly don’t know on what information they are basing that belief. My guess is that they are totally wrong and basing it off of an urban legend. But perhaps they talked to his college roommate who swore on a stack of Quran’s that Obama prayed 5 times per day facing Mecca.
How can I, HRC, or anyone say with 100% certainty that everyone and anyone who believes that Obama is a Muslim has no basis for believing that? I’m not inside their head, nor am I privy to all of the information contained in all private conversations that have taken place in the entire world. I would be foolish if I didn’t qualify a remark like that with “as far as I know”…
I watched the clip and think, based on her raised eyebrow and her subtle demeanor (she looked a little devious) when making that comment, that she did mean to infer doubt.
Hillary Clinton is way, way too smart and experienced to not know how that would come across. She could have just as easily reiterated her first qualification “based on…”
How fiendishly clever of Hillary Clinton to realize the interviewer was going to ask the same question three times, so she could wait until the third time to plant her suggestion of doubt after categorically denying it the first two times. If only she would use her superpowers for good instead of evil.
The video shows her (1) repeatedly denying that she thinks Obama is a Muslim, and (2) going even farther by saying that, as far as she knows, there is no basis for believing that he is. But as long as we’re making up shit about what she’s thinking or feeling instead of just looking at what’s on the video, I imagine that at that point she was thinking, “Why does this asshole keep asking me the same question? Well, it’s 60 Minutes, so they’re probably going to edit in some footage of Obama visiting a mosque or something just to embarrass me. Not that that would prove Obama was a Moslem, but it might me look foolish for saying there’s no basis for saying he is, so I better qualify my statement.”
At this point if Hillary Clinton fell at Obama’s feet and kissed his feet, I wouldn’t be surprised to see outraged posts the next morning decrying her vicious attacks on his sainted toes.
Yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking. If she wanted to get that dig in, she would’ve done it right away.
I disagree. I think she started off doing the right thing and then took the opportunity the reporter gave her to be sneaky. I don’t think she planned this but she didn’t shy away from it either.
So what you’re saying is, Obama is not and never has been a card-carrying member of the Communist Party?
Now if she had turned all purple with rage and yelled “ALL THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT AND I’M SICK OF THIS SLEAZY CRAP” …
She would win my vote right then and there. But no, she took the relatively spineless “as far as I know” track.
Come one lady. You want us to think you are - as a Klingon might say - “strong enough to command” then ACT like it.
Really. That was an incredibly silly exchange.
I’d like someone to step up and challenge the assumption, that calling Obama a Muslim *is *a “smear”. It’d be nice if Obama could muster up the cojones to say “I’m not a Muslim, but if I was I’d be proud of it” kinda statement. Not gonna happen this year, I’ll warrant.
