First, it was a primary with only 17% turnout (remember the rain? Hell, I almost didn’t vote). Second, Sharpton’s vote total even in that under-attended election is fully a quarter of the margin by which Schumer beat D’Amato in ’98. It is not an insignificant number, even in New York.
Think what you want of Sharpton, but any serious Democratic candidate has to have a sit-down with him. Don’t get on Hillary’s case over this. Trust me, there will be plenty of substantive reasons to hate her.
And Green may or may not make a good mayor (and I may or may not vote for him), but I still maintain that he is the most annoying busybody ever put on the planet.
Mrs Clinton …You said that you intend to stay with Bill for the rest of your life. Please define (in its’ entirety) what you mean by the word “intend”?
Mrs Clinton …There is presently a big controversy, with much criticism being directed by Democratic leaders, relative to the Confederate Flag being flown over the Capital in South Carolina. The Arkansas state flag also has elements of the “Stars and Bars” and has flown over the state capital in Little Rock all during your husbands tenure as Governor of Arkansas and still flies there today. Do you think it is appropriate to fly the “Stars and
Bars” in the State of Arkansas …but that it is wrong to fly it in South Carolina…or do you think it is appropriate to display the Confederate flag in South Carolina …please explain?
Mrs Clinton …During your husbands tenure as Governor of Arkansas, you were placed in charge of the Arkansas state Educational system. Under your direction, the academic standing of your state slipped from 48th to the 49th LOWEST in the nation. Please explain???
Mrs Clinton …You have stated that you want to be the junior Senator from the state of New York so you could improve the educational process and bring good paying jobs to that state. What makes you think that you are capable of doing this …and WHY has this not been done during the past 7 years of your husbands presidency?
Mrs Clinton …Who hired Craig Livingstone?
Mrs Clinton …Have you made your first mortgage payment yet …how much was it …and where did you get the money from, to make the payment?
Mrs Clinton …You continually talk about the plight of the poor and minorities. How many poor people and minorities reside within walking distance of your new residence in Chappaqua, NY?
Mrs Clinton …What do you think about the “Jenny Craig” weight loss system?

Married to Bill must have been a great training ground for her dishonesty credentials. I think she graduated summa cum laude. She did alright with the 1000% in gain in her commodity account, having never traded in it before, or since.
Things are not what they seem to be; nor are they otherwise.

Y’know John. . .I could be wrong about this, but I don’t think that Hillary either posts to, or reads, this board. If you really want your questions answered, wouldn’t it behoove you to point them in the right direction?
IMHO, if the First Lady is trying to be like a politician, meeting with Sharpton was a fairly dumb move. She is already certain to win an overwhelming majority of the black vote. The swing vote in the election will in all probability be centerist white voters. I can think of few moves more likely to alienate them than getting chummy with that race-baiting, demagogic, convicted liar, Al Sharpton.
JohnJohn, I thinkn you might have missed a few issues. cmkeller suggested:
To which you responded:
Even after it was pointed out that your number was wrong, you still didn’t address Chaim’s idea. Manhattan continued (while giving you the SD on Sharpton’s mayoral run):
You ducked this by starting in on Messinger (justifiably, perhaps, but it still doesn’t address the issue) and by falling back on “well, Sharpton’s a jew-hater.” Possibly true, but irrelevant to Manny’s post.
Manny again:
You didn’t answer this one, either.
Chaim and Manny have put forth a couple reasons why HRC might not be just “playing the race card” (whatever that means) and it seems you don’t want to discuss their ideas.
'Course in re-reading your OP is looks like you don’t want a discussion. You just want a forum in which to bash Hillary. Which is fine, but boring. Any dittohead can do that. Can you accept that sometimes politics are colorblind? Or are so so hell-bent on hating someone you’ve never met that you’ll not even entertain opposing viewpoints?
And regardless of what you think of Sharpton and Jackson, they are ordained ministers. Being politicians doesn’t change that. Dr. Smith doesn’t stop being a doctor because you don’t like him. AFAIC, putting the Rev. in quotes is pretty damned insulting to them (which was obviously your intent), their congregations (which you obviously don’t care about), and their religion (which is pretty tacky).
Yep, she put down $1000 and “earned” $100,000
The man that handled her account had a contract pending with Gov Bill. Coincidence, I’m sure.Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I can’t expect you to know too much about NY politics. I know nothing about Washington State’s, so that makes us even.
Sharpy has NO congregation and NO church that he preches from. He does not even preach, or ever mention the word God. Just because he got a mail order Reverendship does not make him a man of God. He stirs up racial problems and exploits the press in this area. I think Manny would agree with that.
Things are not what they seem to be; nor are they otherwise.
[lankavatara Sutra]
So, by that logic any serious Republican candidate in Louisian has to put a clothespin on the nose and go kiss David Dukes’ ring? No way- sure there’s pandering in politics, but one has to draw the line at some point.
That’s as may be. I was mostly trying to figure out why you would also insult Jesse Jackson, who DOES have a congregation and DOES have a church. Or do you claim he got a “mail order Reverendship” as well? (whatever a Reverendship may be.)
[nebuli**: I’m not saying much of anything. I’m just trying to find out if John John is here to debate or rant. I don’t like to see folks like Chaim and Manny get blown off.
But it looks like you are here to debate, or at least discuss. Thank you.
Do you honestly feel Duke and Sharpton are equable? Why do you think Duke has as much political and social clout in La. as Sharpton has in NYC?
IIRC, Duke got a very large percentage of the vote in a Louisiana Republican primary, larger than Sharpton’s percentage in NY. So I was merely pointing out that just because someone got a fair number of votes it does not excuse pandering to them if they are reprehensible.
As far as a direct comparison of Sharpton and Duke, it is open to debate if Sharpton is as low as him because they are not exactly mirror images, but in one respect I would say Sharpton is even worse. He has deliberately made false, and horrific accusations, including gang rape, against specific white individuals in order to whip up controversy and further his own political standing. Some of those accusations created years of turmoil for innocent lives. He has been successfully sued for libel (and by a public figure, who thus had to show actual malice aforethought before he could win), and yet still refuses to apologize, and has been able to hide his assets enough to keep from paying his victim just compensation. Not a nice person in my view.
But, as I said in an earlier post, I think Mrs. Clinton’s attempt to curry his favor will cost her in the long run.
Andros, Nebuli has hit the nail on the head with Sharpton. Just because you THINK some race tyrant might help you get elected is no reason to kiss their ass and give up your integrity. “Hillary, I think a nice photo of you with Adolph will help you get the skinhead vote.”
Nebuli gave you a sterling example of how wrong that type of thinking is on this subject. You must stand for something.
When you pander to everyone you demonstrate that you are a political prostitute.
Things are not what they seem to be; nor are they otherwise.
[lankavatara Sutra]
Neb, the person you are referring to is Steven Pagonis, I think he was an ADA, who has suffered years of torment from Sharpton’s false accusation. Sharpton knew these allegations were false, they were proven false in a court of law, BUT SHARPTON HAS NOT APOLOGIZED.
Andros, you really just don’t know this man or the things he has done that are reprehensible. For Hillary to kiss his ass in public and give him credibilty shows how much SHE doesn’t know about this area too. Another reason she would not rrepresent us well.
Nebuli, you have an accurate command of the facts concerning Sharpton.
Things are not what they seem to be; nor are they otherwise.
[lankavatara Sutra]
Andros, do you think it’s all right to meet with tyrants, cheats, gangsters, shucksters and race baiters if it can get you elected? Is that what you’re saying? Is it OK to be immoral to get elected?
Knowing what you NOW know of “Rev” Sharpie Sharpton, do you think it was moral for Hillary to sit down with him publicly and ask for his help in her election bid?
Things are not what they seem to be; nor are they otherwise.
[lankavatara Sutra]
John John read my first post. Do you want a discussion, or do you want simply to dismiss things out of hand? There’s no call to be rude, regardless.
Nebuli said:
Can anyone come up with those numbers? I knew Duke had a following, but I didn’t realize it was that dramatic.
And nebuli also mentioned
I agree with that completely. Especially if Sharpton f*cks up again before the election, HRC will lose more votes from Sharpton-haters than she’ll gain from Sharpton-lovers.
My big problem (apart from John John’s bile) is simply that I don’t think anyone is deserving of so much hate. Sharpton has acted like a sleaze, no question, but he has done some good things too. You may feel that his bad qualities far outweigh his good. No problem. But to deliberately dismiss any possibility of his being anything other than the Antichrist is pure-D wrong, IMO.
Andros Sharpton intentionally used the Brawley case to destroy a political enemy. HE forged a racial attack to reach personal ends and in the process further damaged race relations in the us. HE singlehandedly besmirched the entire civil rights movement for his own ends.
Sharpton may not be the antichrist, but he is far, far, far worse than the most vitriolict white supremist. Had he murdered a white man for racial reasons, he would be more respectable.
