I posted an expanded version of this in a thread in MPSIMS but I had two questions about it that are more appropriate to GQ. (If this counts as cross-posting, I apologize in advance)
I keep hearing a story (I do not have a cite and I cannot verify this, so it may easily be an urban legend) that “the other day” Hillary, in a hurry to get <somewhere…airport?> hit/bumped/ran over a cop/security guard/airport security guy who ended up hurt/hospitalized/in the trauma ward.
The “punchline” that makes this sound urban-legendary to me is that the next day Hillary was (allegedly) quoted in the paper as saying that she wasn’t hurt at all and “regrets” that she was in such a hurry.
I’ve heard this story two or three times from my standard “Have YOU HEARD!?” types (the same ones who sent me fifty billion copies of the Nostradamus thing, the tribute to America that was 30 years old by the Canadian guy, etc), so the story has been out there, circulating for a week or so (before Hillary got booed).
I’ve looked for a cite or at least someone repeating the story…SNOPES has nothing. Where’s Google-Goddess Duck Duck Goose when you need her?
Question 1: Does anyone have a cite for this? Or, if it’s a legend a site that discusses it?
Question 2: If it’s a legend, I’m interested in how widely it’s been circulating. I’d appreciate your location and if you’ve heard it or not. (It’s not often to find a legend before Snopes gets ahold of it.
I’d seen it mentioned in passing by a columnist. I never assumed there could be any doubt, because it sounded so minor. People, and cops especially, go to emergency rooms all the time, just in case, and so they can later sue for whiplash.
I haven’t heard this, and considering all the hate Hillary nuts out there, I’m sure we would have had Ken Starr or somebody on it. Sounds like UL to me.
I got the impression, when reading the articles when they came out, was basically, Gee, a cop gets almost run over but the news reports it as “Hillary uninjured”. (Kind of like, I suppose, a Sept. 12th headline if it said “White House Safe!”)
Another article had a bit more:
(Near the bottom.)
It seems the driver was Secret Service, and was talking on a cell phone during the incident, in violation of NY law.
The modified headline “Clinton OK after airport incident” popped up on radio apparently before news directors realized it was disparaging. When I heard the news blurb myself, I thought it sounded weird, too.
I agree that a vehicle being driven in the vicinity of Senator Clinton causing, by unspecified means, a policeman to injure his shoulder is the exact equivalent of “Hillary runs over cop”. But I think you’re missing the big picture; the WTC bombing occured in the very same state where Hillary resides. Do I have to draw you a picture? And let’s not even get into how the liberal media refuses to address the whole “Hillary eats Christian babies” story I saw written on a men’s room wall last week.
Hillary is a hero of the police and firemen. They all gave her a rousing halloween welcome at the MSG concert - Booo!
That her car or one of her flunkies hit a cop is news? Maybe she still is pissed at cops for when the Arkansas state cops used to line up sluts for Billy. But it might be understandable for other reasons - she was on her way to a fundraiser, and god help anyone who stands between her and money.
And notice how the vehicle is indentified as simply one of the entourage? Was her highness in it? Is this like "I never had sex with that woman? - A vehicle in my entourage hit that cop - not me.
And I never heard or saw any graffitti about her eating Christian babies - everyone knows she’s non denominational.
jwg, jwg, jwg, GQ ain’t the place to get your digs in at Hillary. Your post proposes that Mrs. Clinton was sitting in the back seat of the car, shouting to the driver “go ahead, run over that cop!”. Of course, you were there, and saw the whole thing, right?
But why continue? I’m sure one of the mods will be along in a moment to explain to you how things work around here.
This is the kind of completely inaccurate misinformation and ignorance that the SDMB is here to combat. I happened to be there when this incident occurred. The fact is, Hillary was driving, Fidel Castro was in the passenger seat, the stench of marijuana wafting from the vehicle was palpable, and I distinctly heard Hillary shout, “How many points for the pig?” before gunning the limo at the poor guard.
Ah Fenris me chum, you’re asking for help from the wrong person. ** DDG**not that she’s not a fine source, ya understand, but the Correct source for all things anti Clinton, is our own recently lost WB
Yep, two amazing things:
How an accident w/a vehicle in a motorcade becomes ‘Hillary’ did this and
How an accident close by Hillary, injuring some one else turns into a headline ‘she’s ok folks’.
So another driver in another car in a motorcade that Hillary was riding in the back seat of bumped a police officer, and the press turns this into Hillary ran down Vince Foster? No wonder people think Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet, it’s just a lie. These are the same freaks who that on Dec. 7, 1941 some guy lunching in his wheelchair in Washington D.C. was personally responsible for not intercepting Japanese code and single-handedly beating off the attack on Pearl Harbor because he was, gasp, a Democrat! They then usually use this marvelous melange of mental abilities to excuse the many criminal activities of The Trickster. (Oh, how I do miss The Trickster. Particularly his later years when he refused to continue trying to excuse his past behavior.)
Well, the outrage I was hearing about it was not “Hillary mows down cop”; it was that the original headline for the story was (and I’m paraphrasing):
Hillary OK After Motorcade Accident
[sub]Police Officer Hospitalized[/sub]
Eventually someone with a sense of proportion changed it to:
Police Officer Injured After Motorcade Accident
[sub]Senator Clinton OK[/sub]
Proportion being, in this case, that noting the person who were actually injured was a bit more important than noting the person who is famous.
I’m trying to find a follow on article by News12 that I saw yesterday but I’m not having any luck on my slow-ass puter. It was reported that Hillary was in fact, in the vehicle that attempted to bypass the checkpoint. The driver did not use the pre-arranged checkpoint that would have let them through without stopping. Apparently the cop was hurt running alongside the vehicle pounding on the window. The vehicle stopped, they got it sorted out and they continued on and the cop went to the hospital. The Secret Service and Hillary have not yet commented further on the incident.
This is OT, but I think it’s within bounds. I’m no fan of Al Gore, but here is a balanced accounting of: Al Gore and the Creation of the Internet. What he actually said was “I took the initiative in creating the Internet”.
