When I first started watching the show, the reference to Barney as “your Uncle Barney” totally threw me off. I think the first episode I saw was the one where they’re out at a club and all kinds of “good” things happen when Ted decides to act badly. No real reason to refer to him as “Uncle Barney” if the kids never met him.
