Hold on to your wallets, Steam summer sale incoming!

Orcs Must Die 2 is on the flash sale right now, and it’s a wonderful tower defense/ first person shooter. Well worth four bucks.

Mine appears to know me by now. And I started this time with the GOG sale…

Is anyone else unable to vote for the next community choice?

Yup.

Likewise. I assumed it was because the sale is ending today, but was mistaken; it doesn’t end until tomorrow.

Me too.

The last day is just a return of the best selling sales I think, so no flash/community voted sales any more. If you’ve been eyeballing something you might want to buy I’d get it now before the last day starts.

Wow, thanks for the recommendation. I picked it up at $10, did the typical install and quick test. . . 9 hours later realized I hadn’t even eaten.

There is a lot to like about this city builder. I feel like some fans of the genre set out to make one without all the silly crap and limitations that other city buildes have. Looks like it could be a bit limited in the long run but it’s definitely worth $10.

If by “some fans of the genre” you mean “one dude”, then yes. Banished (video game) - Wikipedia

What do you mean when you say “all the silly crap and limitations”? I am genuinely curious, not argumentative.

Is Saints Row 4 worth it at 10$? How about Saints Row 4 with all the DLCs for 20$?

Having levels with specific objectives, having to do things for some king/emperor/mayor that you aren’t interested in doing. Having a limited number of building types and options until leveling up or progressing in the game, formulaic city services that have no real world analogue, etc.

I think the base game is worth it. I haven’t played any DLC.

Really loving Transformers War for Cybertron. It is not based on the movies. It looks like it is based on the glimpses we have seen in the cartoons of what Cybertron was like when the War started.

If you liked Saints Row 2 and Saints Row the Third then you should like SR4. If you’ve never played them then I’d recommend you play those first since SR4 is sort of a cap on the series* and has many callbacks to those games. You could probably get by without having played SR2 but I think you’d really want to have played SRTT.

Most Saints Row DLC is cosmetic so it’s hard to recommend it unless you really want to dress up as a [silly thing] or shoot a gun that looks like [other silly thing]. I only played the Christmas DLC which was amusing but maybe an hour or so long. Never played Enter the Dominatrix but I understand it’s the weaker of the two.

There’s a “Complete” edition of Saints Row 4 coming out in a week or so, so you could also always wait for the winter sales and probably get THAT one for $10 or $12 instead.
*I don’t know that they’ll never make another Saints Row game again since it’s a signature franchise for them but SR4 really did feel like an end to the story and I’d expect SR5 to be a reboot of sorts if it’s ever made.

I hope so. In many ways, Saints Row 2 was the best game in the franchise.

Something I think is interesting is the Dwarf Fortress style lack of scenarios, campaigns, and victory conditions. The only road marks are the achievements, which are in themselves unusual in that there are relatively few of them, and none are super easy to get. I played about 10 hours before I got a couple (“Healthy” and “Smiles All Round”).

So, now that this magical season is about to end, any final recommendations?

What genres do you like?

Pretty much anything. Here’s what I have from the stuff on Steam’s front page right now:

Skyrim
Bioshock Infinite
The Lego Movie Game
Fallout New Vegas
Far Cry 3*
Civilization V
Borderlands 2
Dishonored
Assassin’s Creed IV
The Witcher 2
Saint’s Row IV*
Tomb Raider*
Rome II
Terraria

  • Haven’t played yet - but I loved Saint’s Row III

The only one of the above games I’ve played that I didn’t like was Witcher 2, and that only because of the horribly mistranslated dialog.

We’ve got quite a bit of overlap but of the ones I’ve played and you haven’t, I’d recommend Kerbal Space Program and XCOM, and would not recommend State of Decay.
