As I did every year for the last ten years, last weekend I had my nieces and nephews over for the annual christmas cookie baking binge - lemon sablé, stratacciatella, chocolate-chili and almond cookies.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and very, very, very foggy with a predicted high of 72 and rain for today and tonight. There is rain north of us so maybe TWPTB will get this right. No big plans for the day. Ima go to the sto’ (a couple of ‘em actually) this mornin’ to grab some stuff on sale. I plan to be in da cave this afternoon when the rain is supposed to start.
CupCakes prayers headed out for your mom. I’m goin’ through some of the same stuff with my mom right now. I’m so glad my sis is there with her. Matter of fact my mom is eighty-eight years old today. Gotta give her a call.
flytrap hee! I had to pull myself away. I could binge watch WB cartoons all day.
OK, I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Also I need to commence purtification so that I shall be presentable to my adorin’ public.
We’re on the downward slope of a temperature plunge. Thurs and Fri, our highs will be below freezing and there’s a chance of evil white stuff falling, tho they claim it’ll be less than an inch. Still, ick! I should probably look for some gloves, ya think?
I had to google stratacciatella and now I want some! Incidentally, spell check wants to change it to extraterrestrial. At least it didn’t autocorrect…
Blurf. I’ve had two long meetings today, one of them promised to be quite unpleasant as I had to get my team together to talk about a new framework document we are rolling out, all about professionalisms and expectations. We had a team event last week where our staff review system got a real pounding from them, and this new document is related to the development and review process so I wasn’t expecting them to have anything good to say. In fact, I was expecting a stony silence but at least they had some comments to make.
I should not feel good about this, but one of the team is off sick so that gets me out of the meeting I had scheduled with her this afternoon and I can get some other stuff done instead.
Cupcakes, I hope your mum is feeling better by now, I had the same kind of worry with mine a few years ago when she was in hospital with pneumonia and they found a blood clot on her spine. Blood-thinners sorted it out but she has been constantly on my mind since then. Apart from on Sunday when it appears I forgot to phone her. She wasn’t sufficiently concerned to call me when I didn’t call her, she said yesterday that since the police weren’t on her doorstep reporting my demise, I must have been ok.
BTW, put me on the list of people who love fruitcake!
It’s a cloudy 33 degrees outside. YUK, but it’s supposed to warm up to 41.
I was horribly sick all night. I will never eat at McD’s again. Well, I probably will but it’s going to be a long time.
Today was supposed to be Psych Final Day but the professor still hasn’t put the test out there. It was supposed to be available by noon yesterday. I don’t know what happens if the professor doesn’t do their job.
This is the professor who was in a car accident and got a concussion. He has been putting everything out late and extending the due dates. There can be no more extensions, the semester is over Friday. The exam is due tomorrow, as is the paper. The exam MUST be taken at the college, college rules are that at least one exam must be taken at the testing center or you fail the course. If the test is never available?
I never trust Psych professors, I always think they are experimenting on the class.
Lunch break here. Found out our senior-est guy in the group has put in his 2-week notice. Dammit. He’s been a great help and I’m really going to miss him. Dammit.
On the plus side, um, it’s not snowing, so there’s that…
Blurf I had to do an update of my background investigation for my job. I guess it has to be done every ten years so that is done. Mine was very easy as I have had the same job, lived in the same place, had the same name for over 25 years. One less thing.
Our weather continues to be in the mid 80’s which is normal I guess.
Symbol, I’m like doggio concerning the chocolate chili cookies. They sound delish!
Good thoughts to your mom, baker.
Happy birthday MamaBear!
I talked to Dad last night and he was saying that it would be bitter cold when I go up for Christmas. He also told me not to come if there was stuff coming from the sky on travel days. Texas Sis and I are joining forces to reserve the Thanksgiving holidays with Dad next year and leave the sister who doesn’t play well with others (and flies in) to come in December.
The cow-orker who was out last week with a new grandkid will likely be out for the rest of the month. She’s in the horsepistol with pneumonia. Given the state of her health, it didn’t surprise me.
I shall be talkin’ to my mother in a little while. I will tell her a bunch of invisible strangers on the intartoobz are wishin’ her happy birthday.
Dindin shall be cubed steak ‘n gravy, rice, squish, peas, butterbeans, and okra cooked together and corn bread. Da bear has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for southern USofA comfort comestibles.
janis, I’m in Australia, on the Gold Coast (south-east Queensland), where Christmas usually involves warm sunshine, seafood, cold ham, swimming and backyard cricket.
+1 for the zinc comment, and add some Vitamin C. We have been fighting off sore throats and coughs and sniffles all week here. My 2yo daughter has been barking like a puppy dawg for the last week, and it’s making me a little crazy.
