Hollywood sign preserved

The last $900k needed was donated by Hugh Hefner

Great news - I was really surprised to hear that the land surrounding the sign was not already a public park.
When I first moved to LA, I lived in an “iffy” area, to say the least, but I could see the Hollywood sign from my bedroom window, and somehow it was like a silent beacon letting me know that anything is possible. I know that might sound weird, but it was somehow reassuring to see that sign every morning - and it did give me that occasional kick in the butt to go out and keep trying.

I thought Hefner was behind the original rescue of the Hollywood sign back in the 1970s.

Found it: Hefner adopted the Y (presumably because he liked it.)

Why wouldn’t he be fond of it? He’s eaten there enough.

You owe me a dollar for that setup.
