Hollywood wrecks another British product - Fever Pitch.

I often quote Fever Pitch as my favourite movie adapted from a book. The book, by Nick Hornby (About A Boy, High Fidelity), is essentially a series of essays about his obsession with London football club Arsenal. It ranges over several decades of his life and manages to explain blokey preoccupation with sport while incorporating his philosophical musings about the events of his life. How someone thought of it as the basis for a movie is truly a mystery.

Tonight I saw Jimmy Fallon on Letterman talking about the 20th Century Dog version of the movie. I am sure they will misunderstand it and cripple the emotional heart of the story. Although the clip they showed was not bad at all. And the Farrellys have made me laugh lots of times before and Lowell Ganz scripted Parenthood and League of Their Own so it will probably be funny enough.

If you have any desire to see this movie treat yourself to the Colin Firth original like you should have done with Get Carter, Alfie, The Italian Job etc

I keep seeing the trailers for this movie and kept wondering if it was supposed to be based on Nick Hornsby’s. The Colin Firth movie is good. It’s a shame they decided to Americanize this movie.

Is the Colin Firth movie the same title?

I’ve only seen the preview and it looks funny but it would be better if the Sox didn’t just win the World Series. The insane dedication to a sports team is even better when it it to a team that loses all the time.

Heh. I saw the original The Italian Job, and then seeing the new one I wondered what the heck they thought the director thought he was bringing to the movie that was lacking in the original.
