Holy crap! Man be-heads fellow passenger on Greyhound in Manitoba!

RCMP Operational Tapes Leaked - appear to confirm rumours of cannibalism.

“operational police communications and as such are not meant for public consumption.”

What an unfortunate choice of word.

Which is, of course, why the Media is eating it up.

“In February 2007, a friend who lived just around the corner, David Wong, was dismembered in the bathroom of his own apartment [by four men in a matter unrelated to Li].”

"On Friday, Reid learned she was also neighbours with Vince Weiguang Li, the 40-year-old charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing and beheading of Greyhound passenger Tim McLean Jr. "
That’s one rough neighbourhood.

I think it’s the beheading part.

Do you think the death of Daniel Pearl would have been so compelling and disturbing had he not been beheaded? That’s a really personal, horrifying way to die.

OK, this is just rude…

The Montreal Gazette website has an article about this story… together with a sidebar ad promoting “Greyhound Bus Travel - Now 25% off!”

I just noticed that the title of today’s NYT puzzle is “Off with their heads!”.

Why did Li have a hunting knife on him?

Are they referring to the fare or the passenger?

To do what he did.

He was hunting.
He bagged what he was after, too.

waits for some Homeland Security Puke in DC to use this as an example as to why its just too dangerous to allow passengers with a Swiss Army (ie Cub Scout) knife on any form of public transportation

Got your Greyhound ticket? Now take off your shoes, bow your head & step to the left or No Travel for You…6 Years!!!
Hey You, MacGuyver! Up Against the Wall. Spread Em…!

But that would imply malice aforethought (I’m no lawyer; I’m using terminology I got off TV shows). The bizarre, gruesome, and public nature of the crime would seem to indicate someone who had a complete break with reality, and yet the hunting knife seems to indicate he’d planned it all along.

Or maybe Canadians always carry hunting knives on their persons in case of rogue moose attacks.

I wouldn’t say it’s common to carry a hunting knife, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw a fellow carrying one.

According to this article: Greyhound suspect on suicide watch, the accused was a recent immigrant.

There is also a mention from an acquaintance, a mental health professional, who says that she was concerned about him:

Why do I hear the beer commercial with the voice over and the singing?

So here’s to you Mr. Bus Decapitator…

One of the stories linked in this thread indicates something went really wrong with this guy a couple of weeks ago and something snapped. He told his employer one thing about this bus trip (job interview) and said something different to his wife (family emergency), which says to me that neither one was true. He may get charged with second-degree murder because he picked McLean at random, but it sounds like he knew he was going to kill somebody. Or maybe it was the trip, but it doesn’t sound that way to me.

Terrifel: yeah, this might not have been such a big international story if not for the beheading and the apparent cannibalism. Then again, it’s those details and the randomness that push this from “awful” into “one of the craziest things you ever hear.”

It was an inside job, man! The government arranged it all, as an excuse to keep track of who rides the bus. You think that was a real Greyhound bus? No! It was a radio-controlled APC disguised to look like a bus. The real bus and its passengers were shipped off to Baffin Island.

I’ve accidentally brought my swiss army knife on a plane before. It went right through the x-ray machine with the rest of the crap from my pockets.

…And you led them Here, you Miserable Son of a #&$%…!?

Suicide watch.

OK, watch him suicide.
