Isn’t there a quote about never bringing a knife to a gun fight?
I’ll back Marley on this.

As you can tell if you read this thread, many posters prefer the SDMB moderation model to a more hands-free model such as GB’s. There’s a reason why those two boards both exist. There’s no reason to make one more like the other.
No, that requires money. Bidding starts at $500.
Okay, this is getting out of hand and far afield, and bashing one another is not really useful neither.
It’s not really appropriate for this forum.
If you have an issue with another poster, please take it to the Pit, where the light is better and there’s more room to swing your fists.
lissener chose to stop posting here in June of last year, so, no, he wasn’t banned a second time. He did, however, get four warnings after returning from the ban, so there is strong evidence that there was no fundamental change in his behavior.
I think you’re right that that was before we did suspensions – all of that happened before I was a mod, though, so I don’t know the exact train of events.
And, yes, there have been a couple of reversals of bans that have happened more quickly – one in particular right after I became a mod, where a banning went forward before it was thoroughly hashed out on the mod loop, and it turns out several of us did not think the ban was warranted. I honestly don’t remember who that was, though.
The lesson learned from that: we try not to jump into a banning because one or more mods are fed up and pissed off with a particular person’s behavior. We look at big patterns, we make an effort to “counsel” the person (dunno why people were freaking out about that language – someone on the staff who has a non-contentious relationship with the person will send an email or PM trying to be clear about what the problems are from the staff’s point of view and what we hope the poster will do to comply with rules hereabouts), and we make sure everyone on staff (about 20 of us, all online at different times) has the opportunity to express an opinion.
All of these steps take time, which is why there can be such a long delay between Action X and Staff Reaction Y.
