Hard to explain what I’m looking for, so I’ll give four examples
[ul]
[li]Jacob wrestles with the Angel of the Lord, and says to the Angel “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” [/li]
[li]Gideon and the fleece, where Gideon essentially made the Almighty jump through hoops before he (Gideon) would obey .[/li]
[li]Jesus in Luke 11:5-8 implies that some prayers may be answered not because of God’s love, but because of the boldness of the one praying.[/li]
[li]Conan: “Grant me revenge. And if you do not listen, then to hell with you!”[/li][/ul]
That last one is only semi-joking. Hopefully you get the idea. I’m looking for examples in scripture (primarily the Bible, but others are OK) of people making bold, defiant, even angry demands (as opposed to humble requests) of the Almighty, and it being accounted as good.
Mods, move to CS if that fits.
Are you looking for discussion on why some are accounted as good and some as evil? If so, GD might be the right site to move to – and I may have some background info.
If you wanna, but I’m really just looking for cites. Besides which, GD just invites in people who want to argue that God doesn’t exist and so the topic is moot.
I’m not sure where you draw the line between begging and demanding, but in Genesis 18, Abraham very clearly haggles with the Lord over the destruction os Sodom.
As an interesting sidenote, the writers of the old testament didn’t clearly distinguish at times between “moral wrong” and “harm”.
Anyway, I could add Job. Eventually, Job basically hauls off and demands to know what the bloody heck was going on. And God answered him (although not the way Job wanted, exactly).
