Moving thread to Cafe Society, from IMHO.
Agree. I know, I know, women aren’t doing it for my benefit, but I wish they would realise that bleached blonde hair almost NEVER looks anything other than dreadful. Doubly so when it’s cut short.
She’s allowed to dye her hair red, though.
Kate is beautiful, check her outin the ad campaign of St. John. The Stella dress is interesting, though it practically shouts at one to notice it…
I’d just like to chime in with most of you and say that while I think Kate Winslet is usually very beautiful, she really looks terrible here.
This comparison says it all. With a softer look she is completely gorgeous.
I also like that she refuses to be a skinny-mini. Maybe that’s why I can forgive her the horrid picture in the OP. At least she owns it!
I think she looks her best when naked, and I’m not being flippant. Has the whole lush figure/animal vitality thing going on. Most of the stick-figure Hollywood actresses, you see them in a bikini and you think, “Damn, girl, eat a sammich before you collapse!” Winslet has that healthy, vital look going on.
The coloring of the dress exaggerates the hourglassness of her figure and makes her look like Jessica Rabbit, while the hair, makeup, and facial expression make her look harsh and standoffish. So no, that particular picture doesn’t do it for me.
I don’t think that’s a very good look for her. The dress accentuates her curvyness, which I recognize is a generally-accepted good thing, but it doesn’t really work for me. Plus, from the waist up she looks a bit like a post-op trannie.
Not the best picture I’ve ever seen of her, but not too bad either. She’s got the curves and I’ve never seen her so hideous that I’d kick her out of bed. This may be the best dress I’ve seen on her: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gwZTIHwSxdU/R8X3VN52Q_I/AAAAAAAAAaM/Lv_RulKVryY/s400/oscars2.jpg
I’m with the OP and the article writer here…
Quote: “Winslet was poured into it like a plaster mould and then set to smoking hot.”
Yeah, pretty much.
I think she has a great body and her face used to be cute (and even prettier when she was at her heaviest, around Titanic), but she has been looking more mannish by the year and she’s far from being the biggest beauty in Hollywood. But I love it that way. She’s naturally attractive and doesn’t appear to have a single injection or surgical procedure. She seems smart, down-to-earth, to have a healthy body image and way of dealing with the craziness of Hollywood - in short, like someone I’d want to be friends with.
Also her hair has been awful for years. She almost always wears it scraped back which is flattering to few women. She does not have the right complexion for the shades of blond she chooses. She looks phenomenal as a brunette and redhead and I just can’t understand it.
I like that dress, though. I love the stretchy bodycon trend. Pose looks a bit silly there.
Picture #7 is stunning. On a whole different plane of gorgeous than the scary linked picture in the OP.
She’s gorgeous. I’m not entirely sold on her lipstick/makeup choices in that pic, though.
I concur. I understand the appeal of the hourglass figure–I’m there myself–but she just doesn’t look pretty in the OP’s picture.
Another vote for “generally beautiful but not in the OP’s picture”. That hair and lipstick color combo is ghastly.
She’s a man babe!
Bingo. I can’t figure out why on earth beautiful natural redheads go blonde. Just to take a couple of examples: Laura Prepon and Lindsay Lohan (yeah, she was beautiful, once) look terrible as blondes.
Ms. Winslet does look best with long hair. But she’s so ridiculously beautiful that shearing her tresses matters little.
I recall reading some interview where Laura Prepon said she got hit on more as a blonde than all the time she was a redhead. Blonde Prepon doesn’t do it for me, but then I’ve always had a thing for redheads.
Her knees are a little sharp too.
I shall agree with everyone saying she’s gorgeous, but doesn’t look it in that picture. As for hair colour, the pink and blue in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind would be my preference.
