Holy OMG, I preggers!

And the ones Ireland didn’t want went to this volcano in Iceland…

What a lot of happy news, even sven ! Well done, you and your husband.

Add me to the list that didn’t even know you were dating

Congrats sven!

Thanks for the announcement thread. I noticed you said you were pregnant and craving pickles and ice cream in a thread about pregnancy cravings and I was all “wait…what?”

Congratulations! This is very happy news and I am very happy for you and Mr. sven.

Congratulations!

Another congratulations from down here.

My middle trimester was the best - hope you ‘glow’.

It’s hilarious that people worry about spicy food for babies. What do you guys think Indian babies eat?! My auntie tells me a story of me sneaking into the neighbor’s house and eating all of the turnip vegetable she had cooked for her husband. I had pulled the pot directly off the stovetop and was eating it with my hands. It was so spicy my eyes and nose were running but it didn’t stop me.

Anyway, I noticed this thread over the weekend and was like “whaa…? When did even sven have all these wonderful things happen to her?” Anyway, congratulations - wonderful news!

Seriously, what a one-two-three punch! Congratulations on… everything! Christ, I feel like I’ve known you forever and now you’re all “I’m having a baby and all”!

I know, right? My (ex)sister in law always made frozen chicken nuggets or ordered a pizza for the kids when we got Ethnic food delivered. What on earth does she think Ethnic kids eat?
(“Ethnic” used here as a spaceholder for Chinese, Indian, Thai, Greek…you name it. She didn’t think kids could tolerate any of that stuff.)

And ergo, they won’t be able to! I even had one woman tell me “It’s not natural for kids to eat that stuff.” Shut your sanctimonius bullcrap, woman! Telling me it’s not natural for kids to eat homemade veggies with chili in it while you feed your kids chicken nuggets with artificial preservatives.

Don’t get me wrong. I love chicken nuggets.

Exactly. But since certain medicines, alcohol, vitamins, and minerals make it past mom’s liver into breast milk, it’s assumed that sulfur, capsaicin, and other bitter compounds and potential irritants might, too. I’ve never personally seen any evidence of that, but a nursing mom’s food choices are the first thing called into question when a breastfed baby fusses. Can’t tell you how many times I heard “What did you eat?!?” if mine complained while someone else was holding her. The more scientific and demonstrable answer (though I never said it aloud) was “It isn’t my diet; she just doesn’t like your face”.

But generally people assume that my diet dictate my kid’s unpleasant moods and minor complaints. It’s a commonly held belief, but it seems pretty silly to me, especially since my diet is never credited with her exceptionally good humor and generally easy going attitude.

Anyway, back to the congratulations and good wishes for even sven!

Nothing to say but congrats on all counts, and I wish you and your brand new little family the best.

Wow! I am so, so happy for you!

Congrats!

Congratulations! I remember that my wife got unusual (for her) food cravings. Prior to being pregnant, she had a huge sweet tooth. That vanished, and instead she had cravings for meat. It got to the point where we went to a steak house for her birthday, which is something that she never would have done prior to being pregnant or after.

I seem to recall that you are in DC, correct? You may want to start looking at daycares as they get huge waiting lists. We started getting on waiting lists when my wife was four months pregnant.

Congratulations!

Congrats on baby! (And everything else!)

I’m 12 weeks along, and I too have experienced the crazy acne. Totally frustrating. On the other hand, I’ve only gotten it when I’ve been pregnant with a girl, so…

God forbid this becomes a breast-feeding thread, but is there any real evidence that the mother eating spicy food causes colic or something similar?

Because it would seem that Anaamika’s point is a good one. Kids get used to whatever the local cuisine is, I would have thought.

The night before my son arrived from Korea, we all went out to a Korean restaurant and ate kimchi so we would smell familiar to him.

If this turns into a hijack, please never mind, and repeated congrats on the pending sven-ette.

Regards,
Shodan

I never found any actual evidence, and my personal experience was nah, no connection between food and my baby’s health or moods. Paging WhyNot

Might I suggest Enio. Yep; can’t go wrong with a solid name like that. If not, you can always leave it to fate
