Ugh. Awoke due to one of those dreams. I hate recurring dreams–except when they involve Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Laurie. This one had neither, just me (in college?) realizing I had not attended a class for several weeks, assignments due etc. Ugh. There was also something about ZsaZsa Gabor and Kraft mac & cheese. Bizarre. I was looking for a hot pad and ZsaZsa kept asking me why I wanted to throw out a pan instead of cleaning it. I kept explaining that I didn’t want to throw it out, I just needed a hot pad. I recall telling her that I would clean out the pan and whap her upside the head with it if she asked me one more time about it. And that’s when I realized it was Monday at 11:15 am and I had missed class again. And then I woke up.
I just woke up for the second time and I feel like I’ve been run over. It seems like I would have been better off staying awake when I was up earlier.
My dad didn’t come home last night. While that’s not entirely unusual, this time it was because he was headed to the Cleveland Clinic at about 11 p.m. to see a friend of his that they had just put in icu due to kidney failure. And just while I was typing that sentence I got an update that his friend has been ‘stabilized but is still in the icu.’ That sounds better than it did last night.
I need to go work on the shop, but all I feel like doing is crying.
Unfortunately no escapades worth reporting. New England Gentleman and I went to a local bar that played really loud music and was full of “omg we r so kool ROFLCOPTERS” type people, so after a drink we fled the place and went to another local bar that was much nicer. That Guy joined us there and we lingered for a few hours, talking about stuff. I certainly did not drink enough to have a hangover. ( for NoOne.)
I had the most bizarre dream as well - the only part I remember clearly is that one of my students showed up at church with my family and insisted on following my parents around, like she wanted them to adopt her or something. Then my dad served us crackers and cheese. :dubious:
Rachel Ray makes me feel murderous.
doggiebutler, living in a country song never ends well. You end up with your car destroyed or with your dad naming you Sue or riding on a train with a dead gambler.
Hullo, all. I’d say “good morning” except that it’s not. I’ve been up for hours, but just haven’t had much motivation. At least I slept well last night, without weird dreams for the first time since before I got Teh Sick. I haven’t been able to remember my weird dreams, mind you, but I’ve been waking up every day knowing that I just had one. It was nice to sleep peacefully for a change! And Her Majesty decided to sleep on one end of my pillow rather than dead center, so I woke up without a crick in my neck for the first time in over a week, too. Stoopid cat, waits till I’m asleep and then proceeds to hog the hell out of the pillow.
My thrilling plans today include trying to get a bit more work done on this transcript I’ve been ignoring for a week – well, besides the other one I ignored because I was too sick to work on it, till I felt so guilty I sent it back to the office for someone else to do – and then also a quick trip to Michael’s for small tapestry needles to repair one of Papa Tigs’ good cashmere sweaters. I know, you’re all impressed at the raw excitement implicit in those activities, right? I certainly am. again.
Apparently my reaction to today is just  altogether. So I’ll go do something constructive and see if maybe I can work my way up to or even .
Oh sure, I finally get up and run off to do a bunch of cleaning and then everybody shows up! Right now I’m on a 10 minute or so lunch break. Then it’s back to trying to find my foodservice license before tuesday. (I brought it home to find a frame for it last June and it hasn’t been seen since.) :smack:
I have to interrupt this perfectly good Sunday afternoon to go to the library and do some practicum stuff. Ugh. I’ll be fine once I get there; it’s the before time that I resent. No idea why, but I’m like this with everything (well, except travel to Europe and leaving work). I am by nature lazy and an underachiever. As House says, there’s something freeing about being a loser… Heh.
I’m going to walk to the library, it’s such a nice day.
I think killing is too good for Rachel Ray. She needs slow death by basting or poaching.
Happy Taterversary! - hope I’m not too late with the congratumalations.
I’ve had a kind of busy weekend doing not a lot. Saturday was for sleeping late and generally mooching round the house waiting for 'im indoors to surface and come up with a plan for stuff he might want to do. No such plan was forthcoming so we ended up idling around at home all day.
In the afternoon we headed into town as it was the post-wedding party for the couple who’s nuptials we were at on Monday. So off we went, in search of the hotel we knew was vaguely near a pub called “The Anchor” in deepest darkest Digbeth. Hmm…not the nicest part of town and certainly not somewhere you’d want to be walking around after dark.
After a bit of wandering and listening to 'im indoors telling me how he was sure he knew where the hotel was 'cos he’d looked at the map…I found a couple of greasy biker types standing outside a pub having a smoke so I decided to ask them if they knew where it was. Luckily they were the very nicest sort of greasy biker types and pointed us in the right direction.
So we spent the evening celebrating the wedding. Finally poured 'im indoors out of the bar at 3am and headed to bed. Had yummy breakfast in the hotel at 10.30am and it’s always yummy when someone else has cooked and washed dishes.
When we got home, around midday, I fed the cats and sorted out the laundry then I did my ironing and filled in my food diary for the last couple of days. Then I worked out what we’d be eating for the rest of the week. In the meantime, 'im indoors went back to bed. hmph
Finally managed to drag him out of bed later and went grocery shopping (wish I’d known someone else was running a list though) so now we have food for the week. Had some soup, did the dishes and got tonight’s chicken casserole cooking. Now I’m off for a soak in the bath. Well deserved, no?
I am up showered and dressed, coffee is brewing, bed is stripped and re-mades, first load of laundry is almost done, kitty is fed and medicated and I am drinking OJ and contemplating breakfast.
Todays plans are - finish that damn appraisal, run to Tar-jay for kitty litter & kitty treats, swing by the grocery store for milk and ham and fruit and I think I am in the mood for some chips. Then I will do the reviewing manager part for a bunch of people for appraisals.
Envy me my exciting life!
oh some minor damage to the fence separating me and nice neighbour - I haven’t checked on nosey neighbour side yet. It is quite breezy again this morning so I have windows open and I can hear my wind chimes which is very relaxing.
Coffee is done and my stomach is growling - off to forage for food!
Note to self: Remind Papa Tigs to take the Idiots for a drive and head over to the grocery store. We need kibble! It’s an emergency when we get low on kibble! (Of course, the Idiots would happily live off steak, but the humans happen to disagree.) And kitty litter. He needs to get more kitty litter. I send him on the most inspiring trips, don’t I?
No, I didn’t find my license. But I did find the sales receipt for my mattress. We bought it in 2004 and it has a 10 year warranty. They’ll be calling tomorrow to schedule an appointment to have someone come inspect it!!!
We went out to breakfast this morning – the Middle Eastern cuisine place in Takoma Park. They have an “all you care to eat” buffet on Sundays. Pretty tasty! Some Middle Eastern specialties, some Greek specialties, but mostly american breakfast foods like cheese omelets, sausage, bacon, pancakes. They had some Syrian fried cheese which is better than it sounds; I also had some pita triangles with both hummous and an olive spread that I liked so much that I bought a small container of each. Then forgot to get pita bread on the way home! We also went to the TP Farmer’s Market and got some fresh veggies (a large butternut squash and some turnips) as well as a small chunk of bleu cheese. YUM! Stopped at Safeway on the way home (where I forgot the pita bread …), and now am getting ready to peruse the Sunday paper. And then I might take a nap!
We had a nice, but overly filling lunch at the Chinese Buffet yesterday. This absolutely trashed our plans for going out to dinner because we were still too full to eat. We mulled the idea of going to a movie, but neither of us really felt like going anywhere. We ended just enjoying a nice, quiet evening at home.
Today is MIL’s birthday, so she’s coming out here around 5:00 and then we’ll take her to dinner.
We didn’t get anything more than the teensiest dusting of snow overnight. They’re still threatening us with snow, but I happen to think we’ve lost out on the snow lottery. My son is very disappointed.
There really isn’t much going on here in Taterland. I’m getting ready to hop in the shower and then head out to buy some flowers for MIL. She doesn’t need more STUFF, and well frankly, it’s too early here for flowers in the garden or hanging pots.
**MamaTigs ** - did you see me wave? We were in your area earlier today. **FCD ** wanted to get out of the house and he wanted to see some kitties, so we drove to the Annapolis SPCA to check out their kitty room. Anyone who lives near Annapolis needs to go over there and adopt some kitties - they’ve got sooooooooooo many who need homes.
No we didn’t get one. The adoption process is a bit of a pain for someone who lives as far away as we do. They have an application and review process which is pretty involved and would require a lot of driving - not good when you’re 90 minutes away. We were going to return to our local shelter, but they’re closed on Sunday. So we’re still catless.
I’m doing laundry now and watching Comedy Central and generally being a bum. Go me.
I’ve spent much of the day looking for the perfect book for our next book group meeting. I think I’ve narrowed it down to 3 candidates. Still thinking, though.
Otherwise, not very productive. I need to do laundry starting: NOW!
Special note to beebs: Are you starting us off tomorrow?
I don’t know exactly what the name of the bug that is infesting my wife’s butt right now, but it’s the kind that makes her crabby and yet inspires to do housecleaning non stop. So I ignore her and let her clean. All in all, not a bad butt bug for her to catch.
I did my part - came home from the gym and tidied the kitchen and family room. I do believe it is now time to commence the read/nap sequence.
