I gotta go do some candy shopping too. But not for me. At Christmas I’ve got to raid every Target within the Seven Cities to get peppermint M&Ms - 'cause they’re always gone as soon as they’re put on the shelf. At Easter time, I’ve too to choose from, and usually get the wrong one. I should write the right one down right away, you know, as an annual rite or something.

Oh, by the way, Happy New Year to y’all.

Happy Lent, everyone! I’m working today so I can’t go get my forehead smeared. I can, however, hang around looking grim and holier-than-thou. I’m good at that. Well, maybe not the ‘grim’ part. And if I’m going to try to look holier-than-thou I ought to put on a shirt with a higher neckline.
What’s for breakfast? Peanut m&ms?

If you put butter and syrup on the pizza it’d be practically the same thing as pancakes! MMMMMMMM… maple/butter/sausage pizza!
-swampbear (Maybe I should patent this before somebody steals my idea!)

Well, if you melted the peeps, then added more sugar, mixed it around and added more sugar and some kind of sweet syrup and some more sugar and then made it look like a disgusting raw egg and then waste some perfectly good chocolate by wrapping it around that mess then yeah, it’s just like peeps. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do like the clucking bunny though. Can’t go wrong with a bunny, unless it’s the kind that rips your throat out but thankfully those are only found in caves in Britain … right?

I’m going to blaspheme and say it’s not that great. Or maybe I just didn’t like the way my mom made it. I think the dumplings were made with bisquick - they were too salty & doughy for me. It was my brother’s favorite dish, so we had it often. Don’t think I’ve had it in years. Don’t miss it.

I’m all smeared & feeling good. Have one of the communion songs stuck in my head now.

Susan

No, that was me being a little bitter. I try not to be, but sometimes it leaks out. That comment was actually milder than what I was going to say initially.

On a lighter note, I loved the Kids in the Hall! I used to watch them all the time. They were so funny! “I’m crushing your head! I’m crushing your head!”

Sean Factotum, I’ve never heard of peppermint M&Ms, and I don’t live that far from Mars Headquarters; we usually get things first around here. Are they strictly seasonal? They sound good, I’ll have to remember to watch for them.

I like Cadbury eggs, but I like Peeps, too, so I obviously have no taste.

So nobody missed me? sniff! sob! I’ve been missing because poor ol Grampy Anachi had to have emergency hiatal hernia surgery. He’s 89 years old and had been vomiting continuously for a week. After a grueling ER debacle (they sent him home twice) it was finally apparent that the hernia had enlarged and there was some twisting of his stomach. The surgery was done Monday and the doc said that 3/4 of his stomach and part of his colon had popped through. Luckily, none of the tissue was deprived of it’s blood supply so everything got put back where it belonged and stitched back up. He’s in ICU now. If y’all wouldn’t mind, could you include him in your good thoughts?

So starting with that, and adding on that I picked up some germy crud during two interminable ER lobby sessions, and ending with the info I got from my team leader that when I get back to work tomorrow, I’ll be packing up and moving my cube to the other side of the building, I’m really having a crappy week. WAAAAAAHH!!! :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Tupug (who once had a baby tooth root fuse to the jawbone)

Well, I don’t know what to say Kalley , I tried to help, I really did. I’m out of ideas. Wait, did you try Costco? They have Easter cr… er stuff out.

I was baptized catholic as a baby, but I’m a bad catholic. Actually, I don’t think I’d be considered a real catholic becacuse my parents were going through a divorce when it was time for my first communion. Somehow, even after the divorce, it wasn’t pursued for me. Growing up, we did the whole fish on Friday thing, or sometimes, creamed spinach and eggs. I liked the spinach and eggs better. So, in my usual rambling way, I guess what I’m trying to say is that I won’t be having ash on my forehead today.

I liked Kids in the Hall too! It was a funny show. Wile I, too, am a Monty Python Fan. I loved the bunny in cave.

So, because I didn’t follow any “tradition” we had beef stroganaffe (sp?-I’m too lazy to check the spelling) last night. Well, it did use fat and meat, right? There was plenty of sour cream too.

I’m staying home today. I took the day off. The main purpose was to get myself and the daughter a haircut, but they couldn’t get me in too. I wanted to “wash that gray right outta my hair” too, but the person I wanted to do it was all booked up today. Sheesh. I’m on the call list for cancellations, but I’m not counting any chickens before my eggs are hatched. Well, at least the daughter will have her hair done. She is well overdue and wants to look nice for the solo ensemble competition on Saturday.

Well, lemme see here…I guess I’ll make me some coffee, peruse the paper, and sneak back here occasionally to see whats up. Maybe I’ll even make me some oatmeal w/milk, butter, brown sugar, cinammon and raisens. Not the instant kind either.

Hey, where is Scout?

Sending good thoughts to your Grampy. Hope he has a speedy recovery!

Ya know, I’m having a crappy work week too. At least I took today off, so I can face double the crappiness tomorrow! I hope your week at work improves. Maybe your new cube farm location will be better?

Tuppy I’m sendin’ prayers and good thoughts to Grampy Anachi! I hope all is well soon.

I’m goin’ for my smearin’ soon. I get to read one of the lessons too. I don’t know which one cause I forgot to look. Oh well, I need some kind of suspense in my life.

I want some fried catfish, hushpuppies and cheese grits real bad. ACBG just might have to take me to the local good place to get that stuff tonight. I’m jonesin’ for it, I tell ya!

Yes, I see you are living there in Allentown.

These M&Ms have red, green, and white color shells, and come in 2 pound bags with a Christmas motiff. As far as I’ve been able to tell, they are delivered in one big shipment to Targets (and only Targets, from my experience) at the end of November, and last on the shelves for about ten days.

We’re thawing out a whole chicken to serve up as tomorrow’s dinner. Maybe I can get it turned into c-n-d. We use fresh veggies, too. Except for the peas. We use frozen ones.

Aw, thanks for asking! I went home from work early yesterday, because I had an attack of the nausea. Thankfully it didn’t “come to fruition” if you know what I mean. But I laid low at home, reading and watching a movie.

Today I’m back, feeling a little bit better. Lent doesn’t mean anything for me, so I don’t have the ashes on me. I was baptized, but then never attended church at all. So there you go.

I did, however, come in to work to find a little Chinese New Year card on my desk from a coworker. Neat!

I’m glad you’re feeling better Scout, and happy that your nausea didn’t come to fruition. I hate, hate, hate being ill. I turn into a bit of a crank and all I want to do is lie around reading and watching TV. Sounds like the “cure” worked for you.

Well, I still haven’t accomplished anything, other than making coffee and scanning some other internet sites. I need to get going and do something. Isn’t it sad that I feel like I should do something when I take a day off? Why can’t I be guilt free and not worry about getting things done around the house or running errands? Why?

I’m doing modified (read: fake) C&D for dinner. I’ve got chicken, a few potatoes, and carrots in the crock pot with some cream of chicken soup and a little onion soup mix. <sigh> So much for my aspirations to be a foodie.

A couple from my church are coming over for dinner before service tonight. Our church has Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 in the evening. Much more convenient for those of us who work than a midday service.

Tupug, I’m sending good thoughts to Grampy Anachi. My grandpa’s sick too so I know how it is. :frowning:

I decided to dress all sexy in a short skirt and 3" heels today. Completely forgot we were touring a couple big office buildings as part of our weekly meeting this morning. Ouch, ouch, ouch! I can’t walk any more!

I’m thinking there should be some sort of contest between you and Wintermute

Can I be a part? Today’s outfit is conservative - but yesterday I wore a short skirt. Had it in my closet - never wore it before - didn’t realize how actually short it was. It failed the fingertip test - that’s when you put your arms to your sides, and see if the skirt length reaches your fingertips.

Susan

OK, mine’s no where near THAT short, but there is a slit up one side that’s above my fingertips. That’s about as wild as I get. (At work anyway  )

You shameless hussy, you!

Who wants to give me odds on how long it will take Shibb to come in here and demand pictures? Any one?

If there were a contest, I’m afraid I’d lose with the skirt I wore last week. It was short, but it passed the fingertip test and doesn’t have any slits. (Note to self: Must buy hoochier skirts. Must not allow Taxi or Susan to be sluttier than me)

And the factories have all shut down. I don’t get this joke as often as I expected when I moved out there. The place is nicer than you might think, but it’s still hard to get a job unless you’re in health care - nurses can pretty much name their terms. I’m not a nurse, so I work in NJ.

And now for something completely different…

I didn’t grow up Catholic, so I’m one of the idiots going, “You’ve got dirt on your forehead.”

I don’t know if I’ve ever had chicken and dumplings. It seems like I should have, but I can’t remember it. I have eaten a lot of chicken pot pie, though, and that’s pretty similar.

I just realized that I live about an hour from the headquarters of M&M/Mars, about an hour from Hershey, and about 20 minutes from the Just Born factory. Does anybody else see a theme, here?

Hit the grocery store last night, so there is food in the house (didn’t buy any candy, though, come to think of it). I’ll probably wait until the weekend to make the Chicken Parm. I bought a turkey ham as well (sister, with whom I live, won’t eat pork products; see last week’s MMP), so I may do mac-and-cheese to go with it. I have a recipe for my crock pot that I haven’t tried. I don’t have any elbow noodles, but I figured I could make it with ziti. I’m not stopping at the store just for elbow noodles. I do need to get some lightbulbs, though, so if they have some at the dollar store, I may pick some up.

Now. I think I’ve hit all the major themes this week, and rather neatly, if I say so myself.

My money is on 21 minutes.

Hey, it’s not that I’m lecherous. It’s just that the SDMB has made me skepitcal of unfounded claims.

I do so like women in short skirts. Just so they understand that the reason they’re wearing said short skirts is so that I can admire their legs. Iffen they’re gonna object to being admired, then why are they wearing those togs?
Sometimes I wonder, and sometimes I just don’t know.

Well, we’ve opened the soap shop, so I’m sitting here behind the counter waiting for customers. I bought a wireless router so I could bring the new laptop out front to keep me company. So now I can inflict, errr, participate more in future. Considering how slow business has been today, I should be participating a lot.
I’ve been open an hour now, and I’ve sold 4 bars of soap so far. :frowning: And I’m hungry. (It’s about noon here.)

Being a godless, um, something-or-other, I have nothing to add to the discussion of religious practices, sorry.

That’s all I’ve got for now.
