Home page help

IE6, Win XP.

My home page is a My Yahoo page. For the last day it has been coming up page not found. The page comes up on my laptop and handheld so I don’t think it is the site. When I open the tools/internet options on my browser, the home page chooser section, the use current, use default, use blank buttons are greyed out so I can’t reset the page.

I have done the following so far:

  1. Updated and ran virus scan (clean)
  2. Updated and ran AdAware and Spybot (clean)
3, Made sure MS patches are current.
    4, cleared cookies and history
  3. rebooted.

My SO had been surfing yesterday and when the page didn’t come up he called Comcast (our cable provide) and they said there was some equipment problems and they’d be back up soon. When he hit the IE icon later, he said a google page came up instead of the My Yahoo page I use. Later it worked fine when I checked email after school, then I couldn’t get it back up. After doing all the things I listed above, it worked and I went to bed thinking it was fixed. This morning I’m back to a blank page, options greyed out. Can anyone help me fis this?

Are you running the same browser and browser version on all equipment?

FWIW, I’m seeing the same problem accessing Yahoo this morning. Neither IE6 nor Mozilla Firefox will bring up my Yahoo home page. I suspect that Yahoo is having some computer or bandwidth problems. I am confident (though not certain because I haven’t yet run all possible problem eliminators) that my system is clean.

And now of course, immediately after I post, I go back and my Yahoo home page shows up just fine and dandy. More reason for me to believe that it’s them and not me.

Yes. Not on my handheld, but my main computer and laptop are both IE6, Win XP.
The main thing that has me concerned is the fact that the buttons for setting/resetting my homepage are greyed out. I don’t know what to make of that, I see no signs of any browser hijackers.

Problem solved. I searched the MS knowledge base and found an article that pertained to my problem. I followed the directions, deleted one registry key, and my buttons are no longer greyed out and I can bring up my home page. Thanks!
