Homeland: Season 2

Can someone give a brief synopsis of Sunday’s episode for the premium-channel-deprived? What happened with the hit and run?

Here’s a link to the Television Without Pity recap. It would probably be easier for you to read up on the show there each week rather than ask someone here to tell you everything you missed.

Thanks. I’ll bookmark that.

As it is with any artistic work of quality. you can’t separate elements because they overlay and build on each other.

Homeland has several considerable strengths and certainly among them is moral obfuscation. Witness Aileen: we don’t seem to know if she was ever been to court but we do know she was an American, detained in an American prison who committed suicide for want of daylight - and that her photo was moved from the live to the dead board with a shrug of disappointment.

Good drama does that; it leaves elephants all over the place - if you choose to look.

I think it was a total mistake to have Carrie meet Brody at the police station. They could and should have sent someone else. Now we have the whole Dana having inside info about Dad meeting psycho lady.

Plus, we have Carrie talking to Mike when she’s not supposed to be in the CIA anymore so he’ll no doubt leak that info to wife. Just not a good move to use her in those two situations.

Yep, but it’s the midpoint. The idea will usually be to begin/renew directions and to ratchet up the will-they-won’t-theys heading towards the season finale.

With both Brody and Jessica renewing their affairs, we will be asking ourselves which of the beautiful couple will, well, we all know how this goes … in a little over 5 hours of screen time either there is a large explosion, a marriage in tatters through infidelity, a dead terrorist leader, teenagers in court, and a new Vice President (or murder suspect). Or not.

That’s what makes this wonderful show so deliciously bloody frustrating, you think you pick up on something that they have done wrong or doesn’t make sense, and then the reason is woven into the next episode. Lost track of the number of times that I’ve thought I know things in an episode, right up to the last minute, only to have a complete joy of a cliffhanger thrown in.

Although I am still trying to work out which version of Skype allows secure top secret CIA calls…

Okay, who was the guy that met Brody and his contact out in the middle of nowhere? My memory can’t dredge up who he’s supposed to be, but obviously Brody knows him.

Which guy? The one that the CIA saw and argued whether or not to go after right then or not? That was the new terrorist guy, the one that led the attack on the CIA agents at the tailors. ’

If you talking about the guy at the end who calls him by his first name, that would be (a freshly shaved) Abu Nazir.

The Television Without Pity synopsis is almost as good as watching the show. The writer REALLY has fun summing up and critiquing at the same time. Worth reading even if you watched the episode.

Nazir. I didn’t recognize him.

If you have a secure VPN, all traffic becomes encrypted. It’s actually easier that way - secure one VPN, then you can share your data for video and audio feeds, communications, etc. all at the same time rather than having specialized encrypted software for everything. So not implausible.

Saw TWP mentioned before but never read it… good stuff! Might not even need this board any more;)

So Nazir gets into the country and is flying around in a helicopter…hmm. Wifey says it’s probably the TV station’s but still!!

That would be the version starting with https:// instead of http://

And I agree - every time I think this show has boxed itself in the corner, or ruined a great subplot, they pull the rug out from under me and give a nice twist.

So - will Brody be re-indoctrinated? Will he fess up to being a part of the CIA?

I am glad they wrapped up the hit-and-run, but I still think this could be used as leverage with the VP in case Brody needs him to shut up about something.

Yeah - this writers on this show have obviously given their plot lots of thought and and burning through story lines faster than many shows do in their entire run. Now that they have been extended another season, I will be interested in seeing how far they can take this.

Further pointers this week towards Estes as the mole (wanting to close it all down immediately). The man makes every wrong decision possible.

I think Brody plays Carrie and the CIA every step of the way. The only way out of it this week was to act the crazy guy again. He’s getting really good at it.

Still trying to understand what possible interest Hezbollah would have in teaming up with someone with the agenda of Nazir - apart from the subversive pro-Israel thing.

First, terrorists infiltrating congress and the media. Then the only person of color in the CIA turns out to be the mole!! No wonder this show doesn’t get the SDMB love it deserves !

It’s the pointy ears wot did it. Transmitters.

I bet he’s still banging the tv chick.

Nazir wasn’t on the helicopter: the helicopter took Brody to a spot, and Nazir arrived by car.

I doubt that; the helicopter had no markings and I think TV station ones are usually branded. And at one point Roya stood in front of the TV truck and from the logo, I got the impression that she works for a cable news network and not a local TV station.

By the way, who was Aileen Morgan. the woman that Saul met with in the prison? Was she in the first season?
