Homeland: Season 2

But first they have to discover that Nazir was warned by phone. Do they know? We saw it, but our perspective was better.

Even if they did, I think the natural assumption would be that someone in Beirut saw the US snipers and texted Nazir a warning, not that someone sitting in the Situation Room did so. Especially since everyone (except Brody) knew the operation was happening ahead of time, so if one of them was a mole for Nazir, they probably wouldn’t have waited till Nazir was literally in the crosshairs before giving him a heads up.

I can’t imagine why, though: he’s doing his best Good Little Congressman impression (so why risk being busted with a phone?), and he clearly didn’t know the target before he went into the room.

Not that I’m one of those people who needs stuff like this to be 100% accurate before I can enjoy the entertainment, but I’m rarely taken out of stories like I was when I saw his phone in that room.

Are we assuming Brody knew that cell phones wouldn’t be allowed? Is it in the Freshman Congressman manual? I sure didn’t know.

If it’s a super major huge ultimate rule, then there’s no excuse for Brody not being told to leave his phone outside. Maybe it’s not that big a rule. ??

What does such a rule protect against? Besides what we just saw, I mean.

I would assume that there is a guard outside the room who relieves people of things like that. In this case, the dude just waved them in.

IIRC the guy in charge in the sit room shouted something about Nazir being warned and angrily said he wanted to talk to Estes about it.

What was the significance of the actual text Brody sent (I think it was “May 1”)?

I thought his text referred to the day Osama bin Laden was killed, but he was actually killed early in the morning of May 2.

May 1st is ‘May Day’.

I thought of that, but would that be a phrase Nazir was familiar with? Possibly.

I like the Bin Laden explanation – too bad it was a day off.

I assume it was an agreed upon code that shit’s about to go down.

It’s pretty universal. I assume Nazir would know what it means. It’s international after all.

The guard’s the mole.

The premise of this show - the split loyalties of Brody and for most of the series the mystery of Brody can wear thin, so they’re going to have to diversify their premise. If they decide to do that, they’ll work in more general spycraft stuff in pursuit of Nazir like they did that episode - that’d be pretty good, because their take on spycraft this episode was pretty well grounded and entertaining.

When you are given access to a room like that, you know.

I watched the whole series to this point over the last four days. I’ve posted general questions in other threads that I’d like to get some feedback on. In general I’m really surprised with the lack of SDMB love for this show.

In general I thought Ep 1 was relatively lame. Ep 2 was alot better. The chace in the bazaar was too long and not particularly suspenseful. The chase in the apartment building was better but I’ve had enough chases for the whole season. They can do better.

The VP is pretty slimey but OTOH there is no reason to wait. The Arab street is already outraged.

I like Dana too, as for even pretending to share intelligence with his platoon… lame.

Saul may not know yet. We haven’t seen him watch the whole thing. Could be a defective copy. I don’t like that they brought the tape back into the show so quickly myself. What happens now…

  1. It is defective and the full version is still out there

  2. Saul is the mole and he doesn’t reveal what he knows

  3. Saul tries to turn Brody back
    Other general questions …

  4. I’m confused about the lady who approached Brody in Ep 1 … is she the newslady… and then when she met Brody after Nazir was saved didn’'t Brody volunteer that he had done it??

  5. How often would we expect Brody to go to his garage to pray?

  1. Yes, she’s a reporter who is secretly working for/sympathetic to Nazir. And she already knew Brody had warned him about the assassination attempt.

  2. Muslims pray five times a day. It’s hard to believe Brody was going out to the garage that often though.

Most ironic moment in tonight’s episode:

Jessica says to Brody, “You’re hiding something!”

Ya think?

Another chase scene. I didn’t care much for this episode. The little tease at the beginning was just that.

Yeah, not much happened. And it looks like we have to wait til next week to see Brody’s video hit the fan.

Brody is one cold-blooded bastard, isn’t he? Of course, it was pretty obvious that the tailor was toast from the get-go. Exactly how did the tailor get injured? What did he fall on?

Jessica looked really great in that red dress.

ETA: It’s mind-bending to go from Masterpiece Theater’s (Classic) Eaton Place and the rise of the Third Reich to Washington-CIA-Beirut-Syria. Sort of time-travel jet lag.
