Homeland: Season 2

Yeah, he definitely did.

The fact that he didn’t mention the list he stole or that he knows the tailor is dead doesn’t dissuade me from believing that Brody will go “all in” to help the CIA now. It’s his only hope.

Regarding the mole in the CIA, my personal theory is that it is Virgil, the surveillance guy. There’s something about that guy that I just don’t trust.

When he got home he had a fresh bandage on his hand, so I think he did get some medical attention before going home.

Yes, that was purposeful. Confirmed when Saul asked if it was just theater.

Virgil isn’t CIA though, right? He’s an outside contractor.

It’s not. You didn’t go to high school with any guys who were regularly called by their last name? There were several in mine, mostly football players. Even the teachers called them by their last names. Sometimes girlfriends used the first name, sometimes the last. But it wasn’t considered weird either way. In fact, with a new guy who enrolled several months into the school year, it took me about a month before I realized that Franklin was his last name, not his first. But everyone called him Franklin.

And there’s always the possibility of a simple explanation: Brody prefers being called Brody.

OK. I must be going crazy, or probably already there. When Carrie and Saul were talking after the interrogation and were looking at the names Brody gave them didn’t he or she say that they were all dead? That’s why I thought he hadn’t mentioned the journalist.

IIRC, the journalist’s name was not in the group that they said were all dead, but it was because the journalist was one of the first names he gave. Then he names a bunch of other people, to which she said “all dead.”

At the end, when they’re taking all the photos off the white board, one of the only photos they leave up is that of the journalist.

This is by far the best thing on TV right now. I can’t think of anything that even comes close. Loved every minute of it, although I think we all saw the hit-and-run coming as soon as they decided to have a little “fun”.

The show could’ve done a lot better job explaining what the list was supposed to be. But the dialogue with Brody made it pretty clear that whatever it was, it was something that would help Nazir attack those sites. He says a couple times he’s uncomfortable helping, because giving the list to Nazir would help Nazir in terrorist attacks that would kill civilians.

ETA: Here’s the wikipedia entry on the episode:

So the list is to help Al-Queda plan an attack, not defend against one. But yea, it was pretty unclear in the episode that was the case (why does Al-Queda need a list from the CIA of places that Al-Queda could attack, can’t they come up with their own ideas?).

Aside from the hit-and-run, how much trouble would the VP’s kid be over eluding his Secret Service detail, and driving recklessly? I wonder if they already had a GPS tracker on his car, and if so, would it identify him as being present at the time and place of the hit-and-run. (And if they didn’t already track him with a GPS, I’ll bet that they’re going to do so from now on.)

You would think that Estes would notice the list was missing and be searching for the thief. But I agree that it must be more than a list of potential targets to be of any use to Nazir.

The list isn’t missing – Brody copied it.

I canceled my premium channels today as *Homeland *was the ONLY thing I was watching out of the umpty-ump stations I was paying out the wazoo for. (Excuse my use of highly technical language.)

So I shall rely on this board to keep me informed. Thank you.

Sorry, Auntie Pam, I forgot that. I probably should watch the shows a couple of times to help cement the facts in there amongst the swiss cheese.

I don’t think Brody has truly decided to go against Nazir. He’s conflicted and confused. But he has to know that if he lets his contact know he’s betrayed them he’s done for. And he may be granted immunity, but there’s no way his wife will go with him into Witsec.

Hey, don’t feel bad. I still can’t remember why we think there’s a mole. And I’m pretty sure it was discussed just a few days ago.

I don’t think Brody is totally on board with being a double agent. He has eight years of conditioning to overcome. Carrie was right about Nazir being an evil bastard, but what is it they say? Two wrongs don’t make a right. Drone attacks kill civilians.

Family isn’t always enough to keep people on an even keel. People with families do crazy shit every day.

I think part of the reason he’ll play along is for the challenge, the intellectual exercise. And to suss out Carrie. Does he believe she loves him? Will it matter?

He might decide to do the right thing, but it won’t take much to put him back in Nazir’s camp. A barrista gets his order wrong, somebody cuts him off in traffic and bam!, fuck my family, fuck this country! We’ve all been there. (Just sorta kidding.)

I don’t think Carrie was offering Brody the Witness Protection program. Anyway, how would that work for him - his face has been all over the news for the past few months. Too many people know him and his family. I thought she just said he had to move away from DC and get out of politics.

I guess they could keep the whole thing secret, but Nazir’s org would have him on a hit list so he would need to be protected some way.

Brody is so on the edge. He could go either way, or off on a whole new way and be some sort of lone gunman. But since he’s one of the stars of the show they’ll have to come up with some story line that drags on a bit. He is a great actor. When he was in that fetal position in the interrogation room he was so convincing.

He said that she went to the prom with someone else, so presumably they weren’t dating throughout high school. Probably they just knew each other for a while, and she just called him by the same name everyone else called him, and didn’t change to using his first name when they did start dating.

Just as a footnote, when I was going to high school, it was common for people to refer to others by their last name - even people who were dating. Maybe this was an Illinois/Midwest thing, but for her to call her boyfriend by his last name “Brody” would not have been considered odd in my high school.

On the TV series The Paper Chase, all the law students, male and female, only referred to each other by last names.

OK. I will stand down about wife calling hubby Brody. Seems its more common than I thought.

Look like Dana’s new beau will soon be a thing of the past. She’ll run back to best bud Zander who no doubt will encourage her to “do the right thing” and turn in VP kid. Then it will probably come down to her word against his with secret service backing up the son. Just speculation on my part however. Every time I think I have some part of this show figured out, they throw in a curve ball I totally did not see coming.
