Homeland: Season 2

Interesting article in The Atlantic,“Homeland Is Really About Kids.”

Discusses how important innocence and loss of same are in the *Homeland *world, and how last week’s joyride is quite integral to the series’ theme.

Wow. This season is crazy. What a bloodbath.

So why did the baddies wait til the last minute to retrieve whatever it was from the tailor shop?

Since I dumped my premium channels due to a need to economize, can someone give a brief synopsis of the important events of last night? Thanks.

Last night was just grim TV all around - Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire and Homeland body counts were rough…

  • the CIA attempted to capture a meeting between Roya and an unknown man. They had a meeting next to a water fountain and as a result, the surveillance team was unable to get any sound (there was a suggestion that one of the team was purposely not putting the mike where it should be)

  • Carrie asked Brody to meet Roya and tell her that he had been at Carrie’s apartment (he told Roya that he was sleeping with Carrie) and she had received a phone call about a Hezbollah operative and he thought Roya should know that. During this meeting, Roya mentioned that the CIA had found the tailors shop and she wondered how that could have been found out. Brody asked her if they would find anything there and she said “they might”.

  • Meanwhile, Dana snuck into a hospital ICU and found the lady they had run over. She was dying and of course, that freaked Dana out and she confronted the VP’s son about it, saying they had to tell someone. He told her to STFU about it. Damn good acting by the actress BTW.

  • Carrie called the guy running the team going through the CIA shop and told him to look for something major (based on Roya’s comments). They hadn’t found anything yet but then he noticed a false wall and started knocking on it. He then called for backup including national guard/swat teams. Apparently, someone was watching on camera in case the CIA actually stumbled on what was hidden there because a group of men, probably Hezbollah, swept in there and started shooting. The main guy (can’t remember his name, the one Estes put in charge of the Brody take-down) appears to be gut shot but still alive. The Hezbollah men cut open the wall and remove a big black box.

  • Carrie goes psycho on Brody after the loss of 7 CIA operatives and demands to know if he was aware of it. He denies it, she breaks down and he comforts her.

The end…great episode -this whole season has been awesome.

Holy crap. Thanks for that.

So I guess Galvez isn’t the mole.

They knew the store was being watched. Presumably they were hoping the CIA would get bored and give up on finding the tailor. When the CIA moved in and started poking around, they gave up on that plan and decided to send in the terrorist-swat team.

Plus sending a squad of guys into downtown Gettysburg with automatic weapons during daylight seems like the kinda plan you’d try only if you had to.

Still no mention of the list Brody stole. I’ll be kind of annoyed if they drop it, stealing it was the only actual piece of terrorism that Brody accomplished while working for Nazir.

Do we know the identity of the man who removed his face mask after the Gettysburg massacre? I assume there was a reason we were shown his face, but for the life of me …

He’s the guy the reporter met, isn’t he? I don’t believe they’ve identified him yet, and not sure why he looks like he took a beating, so I’m probably way off.

Yeah, it was that guy. I thought he just got banged up in the fire fight.

When we saw the SWAT team, I was hoping it was going to end up being some sort of new faction within the intelligence community that was at odds with the CIA for whatever reason, because a Terrorist SWAT team is pretty ridiculously implausible.

You really think an opposing faction wasting 7 CIA agents on US soil would be more plausible? I don’t see how sneaking in 6 loyal soldiers and outfitting them is that crazy. It does obviously tip their hand that they have a very big/important plan underway.

Yes, I would find the idea of some sort of faction like CIA special activities or something came in and killed them for some reason than a bunch of terrorists going to the trouble of outfitting themselves with all that gear. It’s actually pretty damn difficult to acquire assault rifles in the US, and overkill unless you want to be really flashy. The terrorists could’ve come in with ski masks and 12ga shotguns and been completely plausible.

The thing is, Police are usually at an advantage because they are better equipped. If you MUST get that box out of there, you’d want that advantage taken away. While it may be difficult to get an assault rifle, I don’t think Nazir would have trouble finding the expertise to modify AR-15s like the North Hollywood Shootout couple did.

The shows realistic compared to a lot of other things that are on TV, but you kind of have to accept that Nazir’s terrorists are a lot more skilled, smarter, better organized and more numerous then the real thing. Which does get a little eye-rolling sometimes, but its a lot more interesting then watching Saul and Carrie match wits with the likes of the Underwear Bomber.

I’m fine with the terrorists being clever. Using various counterespionage techniques to evade detection and surveillance is interesting. For instance, in this episode, meeting by the waterfall made for a realistic but clever tactic by the terrorists. You don’t have to go so over the top to show organized, dangerous terrorists.

Oh, I agree. I am giving the show the benefit of the doubt that Nazir’s plan specifically requires a strike force and that he probably didn’t want to use them for this job but was forced to.

The couple that bought the house near the airport also had a squad of guys with automatic weapons come after them. I don’t remember if we actually see them on screen, but presumably its the same terrorist swat team. Nazir apparently has a squad of really well-equipped goons in the DC area on speed dial.

It looked like the hit squad left by the front door of the store, in daylight, in riot gear, and carrying a body. Really?

I hope there was more than weapons in that box. If it was just weapons, that was a pretty stupid move.

Going back to Beiruit, there were bad guys after Carrie in the apt she ransacked. The apt was that of a terrorist. Surely the al qaeda org would know rather quickly that the video Brody made was missing. So they would know, or at least suspect, that Carrie had found it. That would blow Brody’s cover and have a kill order on his ass. Am I missing something?
