So you think that Jabadi is now a good guy and the Iranians will keep their “agreement” huh? Maybe he’ll start killing off the people who know about him (can’t be that big a group) so he can go back to full-time infidel hater.
Never said he is a good guy.
But look at the geographical map of Turkey - neighbors are Syria, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, Georgia - that looks like there could be a story or two from any one of those countries.
And yes, Iran - if “their guy” in Iran returns next season, there are many directions the story could continue. Maybe he does do a 180 and become a secret fan of the West and starts to feed intel - or maybe he becomes the biggest threat - but at least they know him and where his weak points are, etc.
With Carrie at the helm in Turkey, any number of crisis situations will literally be right on her doorstep.
So yeah, the writers have set themselves up quite nicely, and they have a wealth of story lines just waiting to be plucked.
Just taking issue with the “completely clean slate” comment.
Here’s another possibility … they are still using LBJ’s old taping system that Nixon gave to the Shah when he upgraded and somebody finds out what Nick said about Jabadi before he swung the ash tray.
Saul’s beard, Carrie’s googly eyes.
I just caught up on the show. I’m glad they killed off Brody. I was thinking that I was tired of him and his whole story arc, and that the only reasonable thing to do at this point was to get rid of him. It’s a rare day when TV producers actually do what I’m hoping they’ll do.
Next season could be great, but I’m growing weary of unstable and impulsive Carrie freaking out all over the place. It’s just gotten old. Stabilize her meds and give her a miscarriage and start fresh. Everything needs a little freshening up at this point. Except for Saul’s beard. That thing is perfect.
I’m late to the party but I just finished watching all 3 seasons of Homeland. The show is very well written, and I feel that many of the characters still have secrets the show hasn’t revealed. Of course, this could also be that the show has taught me to look at everybody in the show with a jaded eye.
The weaknesses in S3 I think are minimized by the quick viewing - I see some of the plot holes above about how Carrie was acting before it came out that she was knowingly acting with the CIA. I didn’t pick up on that so much, but if I had to wait a week between viewings I likely would have been annoyed.
Other than that, the season seemed to be quite strong. I’m glad they finally brought an end to the Brody storyline. It was a compelling story but it’s time to move on to a new story. I’m not going to miss Dana or Jessica even though I thought both actresses were very good in their roles.
I’m excited about Season 4. Lockhart is an unsympathetic character so it’s only a matter of time until Saul gets back in the game. I’d bet that this season will contrast newer methods of espionage such as drones, electronic surveillance, and other high tech gathering favored by Lockhart vs the old school methods of asset development that Carrie and Saul prefer. 20 bucks says I know who will be proven right by the end of the season too :-).
I’d guess that there will also be a focus on Lockhart’s “my career comes first” philosophy versus the genuine patriotism of Carrie and Saul. (That’s my interpretation, anyway.)
I liked your assessment of Season 3; I think you’re on to something with your remarks about the different experience of seeing the episodes all at once, as opposed to seeing one per week.
I agree, they’ve already started that line of conflict so it’s likely to continue. With Carrie in the field she’ll be a lot closer to danger than being safely in Washington where she has her safety nets in Saul and her family. Consider the interrogation scenes we’ve seen. Every one I can think of that involves Carrie has her on the questioning end, and she’s always been in control. If something goes awry in the field will she end up on the other end at some point? Possibly, especially if Lockhart considers the action she may take that compromises her to be against his policy and doesn’t want to sully his political position by rescuing her.
This kind of reminds me of The Wire - how each season told a slightly different story with some of the same characters. The end of Season 3 left each character in a new setting. The possibilities of where the story could go from here are very exciting. I don’t want to get ahead of myself but with tomorrow off I’m pretty much done thinking about work and only have 10 more minutes until I head home. This is much more interesting!
I agree with you, Frazzled: there are lots of great story possibilities in the set-up left at the end of Season 3.
Now starts the wait for Season 4. All I can find for a projected start date is “2014”…and we’re there now! (I trust that someone will post any updates that might give us more specific news.)
End of September in all likelihood.
Thanks. Yeah, I guess we couldn’t hope they’d get it done any earlier than that.
