Honeys? I'm Home!

Back in little ol’ Dallas, G-A, that is.

Christmas vacation was fun, and it was great being a “kid” again, and singing the old German Christmas songs in church. I enjoyed “talking” with some of y’all via the “Kleine (little) Internet Cafe”, and generally just bumming around.

Some things I’ll be doing different my next trip home:

  1. Rent a car. I’m too old to go dragging my suitase through the train car aisles and then lifting the damn thing to put it in the overhead rack. (Like ta broke my back a coupla times!).

Also, I tried lining myself up on the side so that the car would stop directly in front of me, but that didn’t work. Both times (out of Frankfurt and then out of Würtzburg) the number car I needed wasn’t even on the train.

  1. Buy a lighter suitcase. I have the largest suitcase available, but even empty, those rods (which provide the pully-thing) give it quite a bit of weight.

  2. Generally try to get in a little better shape before the trip. I thought my bike riding would serve me well with all the walking I would have to do, and I guess it did, to a point, but I still got winded walking back up the Taubertal (The Tauber River Valley) after a night of playing Sheepshead(cards) and drinking beer and schnapps.

  3. Bring more clothes. I wound up having to go to a coin-laundry to wash jeans , a sweater and some underwear. There were only 3 washers and two dryers available, and I had to wait on those.

  4. Buy a decent camera. I had one of those cheapie 35 mm, self-winders, and the damn thing would advance the film but the numbers wouldn’t register. Looking for a good deal on a digital, if someone can recommend one…

But all in all, it was a great time, and I am looking forward to maybe going back in September.

Welcome back, Quasibaby! It was fun talking with you in Rothenburg, even though it brought out the green monster in me…

Sounds like you had viel Spass!

Whatcha doin’ for New Years’s Eve?

Welcome back! Glad the trip went well.

Gotta work it. :frowning:

I had the choice of working Christmas and not getting to go home or working New Year’s (also my BD), so I chose the latter. No problemo. I’ll just celebrate my BD on 1.1.2003 instead!

Thanks for posting while I was in R’burg, GfH! It was great being able to “converse” with 27K of my closest friends while away from home!

From the title, I thought this thread was going to be about having multiple wives. Heh.

Welcome back!

What did you bring me??

<Hmmm…> Quasi comes home and a big church fire in our hometown puts the town on the Atlanta evening news for the first time (that I’ve ever seen). </Hmmmm…>

J/K - Welcome back Quasi. Hope you had a blast. If I don’t talk to you before the 31st, then frohliche geburtstag!

Well, I thought about ya while I was gone, does that count? Also, when I got home and found my Secret Santa package, I wondered if you were him/her since it was mailed from Florida, but then I saw it was Coral Gables, so I knew it couldn’t have been you. Right?

Quasi

Ditto…and I had a great story. Oh well…

Well, hell. Post it! Now you’ve got my curiosity up!

Quasi

Well, it’s not as good as loot, but it beats a sharp stick in the eye… My trip starts tomorrow - driving up I-95, so fair being fair, I’ll think about you, too. And I’ve never even been to Coral Gables!!

Welcome Home! Glad you had a good time!

I of course meant New Year’s Eve. I call jet lag! :D:D
