Hoosiers?

Just by chance, are there any other Hoosiers in here, either by birth or by transplant?

Would you admit it if you were? HAHA

Hoosier mama!!

Former Hoosier here, looking to return in a few years, husband or no.

Love stinks! (Yeah, yeah!)

I was born in Indiana and lived there until I was five. My roots there are pretty deep and I still have a lot of family there.

Just thought you’d be interested in knowing that.

Okay, I admit it - I’m a Hoosier. Our motto: At least we’re not as backward as Kansas!

Come home, voguevixen - we need all the thinking people we can get!

Love comes in spurts.

Damn straight I admit it! I’m a Hoosier girl, born and bred in Indianapolis, Indiana.
And proud of it

When are you going to realize being normal isn’t necessarily a good thing?

Hoosiers is my favorite movie. Does that count for anything?

The post below mine will most likely be occupied by LauraLee.

I’m not a Hoosier, but my daughter was born in Bloomington, so she will always be a Hoosier. We lived there for two years. I have to admit it was serious culture shock for us Northeasterners!

Hey voguevixen! I’m a Hoosier transplanted out to California too!
Indiana’s a great place to grow up, but I wouldn’t want to live there.
-Katy

I was there for a couple of years workign on a degree, so I’m an alum, but I guess that doesn’t count, but…
Bob Knight, bite my ass!
Nick’s English Hut in Bloomington, YAYYY!
Hoosier soccer, yay!
Big Red Liquor store, yay!! (Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for alcoholics)

Lessee, I was born in England, but I lived in Indiana for ten years at Grissom AFB, just north of Kokomo. I married a Hoosier (New Haven) and we have three little Hoosiers, all born in Logansport. I believe this makes me an adopted Hoosier, and although I haven’t been there since '92 (again courtesy of the USAF) I get homesick for it, especially in the fall.
We honeymooned in Brown County State Park in October '82, and just love Nashville House’s deep fried biscuits and apple butter! Yum!

Remember, you can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish!

Vestal Blue:
I grew up just a few miles from Brown County State Park… I graduated in '82, and spent much of that summer hanging out there. Bet we crossed paths!

Small world!

-Katy

Grew up on the East Coast, but I am a Hoosier by marriage and by education.

I did my undergraduate work at Indiana University. I met, fell in love, and married a beautiful, intelligent, cultured & kind Hoosier Born & Hoosier Bred IU graduate. We don’t live too far from Indiana, and go back to Bloomington (which is also where her family resides) about a half-dozen times a year.

P.S. I am a Life Member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, so I guess that makes me a Hoosier for Life!

Go Big Red!

Small world indeed, Katy!

BTW, one of my twins is named Katy.

Tempus is fugiting all over the place! Carpe that diem!

Interesting how many Bloomington connections there are. I guess it’s not surprising given that it’s a university town.
We were there because my husband was doing some post-doctoral training and I got a teaching position at IU. It is truly a great school, campus, and town. We came back East to be near family…having a baby so far away made us extra homesick, on top of the culture shock.
We loved Brown County as well. I have a fond memory of a horseback riding afternoon there.
I’m trying to remember the name of that great diner/cafeteria…around halfway between Bloomington and Indianapolis on Rte. 37? Anyone know what I am talking about?

Indiana…the state you have to drive through to get to Chicago.

– Uke, quickly and cravenly hiding behind the huge number of SDMB Ohioans who are nodding to themselves right now

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it’s Gray Brothers Cafeteria, on Route 67 in Mooresville. Great fried chicken and wonderful homemade pies.

(from 465, take the Kentucky Avenue/67 exit south. To continue on to Bloomington, take a left onto Route 39, then a right that will take you to Route 37)

Janko’s = best steak around.

Gotta go, I’m getting hungry!

Born in Indianapolis, raised in Hammond. But I didn’t have to drive through Indiana to get to Chicago, because our house was right on State Line Ave.

I’ve been a Californian since 1981, and I’m never going back.

IU this…IU that… What’s this world coming to? Sure, it’s a great school for several things…medicine…journalism…archaeology, basketball, men’s soccer, almost a 2:1 female to male ratio. Gosh, maybe IU is a good school. Too bad it costs and arm and a testicle to go there!

I was born and raised in Crawfordsville (which is where basketball in Indiana had it’s beginnings!!!). It’s been my home for 22 years, although I’ve spent the better part of the last 4 years in Evansville (may as well be Kentucky) at the University of Southern Indiana, formerly Indiana State University at Evansville.

Good to know that there are so many Hoosiers and pseudo-Hoosiers (you still count!) out there!!

Oh, and having Hoosiers as your favorite movie just doesn’t quite cut it… We’ll let you be an Ohio native instead.

Carmel checking in here…

Grew up in Kokomo, moved to Bloomington, ended up in Indy and finally Carmel.

I’d move back to Bloomington in a heartbeat if there were jobs there. I moved when I hired a PHD to work retail electronics sales.

Several of my high school friends figured out some way of living there though. One of them is the mayor.
