Horrible Bosses vs. Bad Teacher

Horrible Bosses Opening July 8th
Bad Teacher Opening June 24th

Not exactly Dante’s Peak vs. Volcano but the premises are kinda similar. Which will do better? I picked Horrible Bosses. Both trailers are good but HB has more star power and I like the assassination plot better than the ‘fuck-up makes good to win a man’s heart’ plot. I’d see both movies based on the trailers though.

I think I’d pick Bad Teacher, mostly because anything with Jason Segal in it is bound to be funny.

They don’t really look that similar at all to me. I’m curious to see how dark Horrible Bosses goes. It sounds like a great premise but the movie will suck if they don’t follow through with it at all.

Well maybe just the titles. Bad people being bad is what struck me.

A plague on both their houses.

HB has Charlie from Always Sunny… and Jason Bateman (*Arrested development, etc., etc. * and Kevin Spacey, and Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston (yum!), and Julie Bowen (yum! x2) so that’s a big win right there.

Opening weekend results:

Bad Teacher $31,603,106
Horrible Bosses $28,110,000

BT opened against Cars 2($66m) and Green Lantern’s 2nd week($18m).
HB opened against Transformers 2nd week($48m) and Zookeeper($21m)

Pretty close but judging from the Horrible Bosses thread, I don’t think it’ll be able to overtake BT.($78.8m domestic/2.5 wks).

All figures from Box Office Mojo.

I think “Bad Teacher” looks, well, bad. For some reason I’ve lately developed an irrational, burning hatred for Cameron Diaz so much so that you really would have to pay me to watch it. I’d recommend “Horrible Bosses” (and did, in the other thread) to anyone who likes the genre.
As to how dark “Horrible Bosses” goes, I don’t know if"dark" is the right word but it is delightfully vulgar. The two reviews I read of “Bad Teacher” both said that they should have made the main character much more bad.

A better face off would be Bad Teacher vs. Bad Santa.

And of course Bad Santa would SLAY Bad Teacher.

I did see Bad Teacher this weekend. It wasn’t as bad as I expected. Wasn’t good either.
ETA: WOOKINPANUB, I agree, she should have been badder. At one point:

she drugs a man so that she can steal some paperwork from his office. At first, I thought she was going to have sex with the man for realz. I was like, wow, edgy! But then they pulled the punch and she ended up just drugging him

So, yeah, I think if she was badder, that would have been better.

Agreed. I can’t even point to any one thing but somehow she’s boiled under the surface until I finally decided that she’s a terrible actress and I hate her. Well, hate her professionally; she may be a wonderful person in real life.

HB is better reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes. Plus the HB thread had mostly meh responses when I posted so maybe I spoke too soon.

Sorry to double post, but I am posting from work and I want to clarify my spoiler:

The scene is set up that she tells the man that she is willing to have sex with him. This gets her into his office where she can steal the tests she needs. I think it would have been better if she really did have sex with him to get what she needs. They played it too safely.

Also, they never showed her ‘heart of gold’ really develope. It was kind of tacked on all of a sudden, with her starting to want to help others. I couldn’t help comparing to Bad Santa where his ‘heart of gold’ developed inspite of himself, and he still was pissed to know it was there.

I saw both this weekend and thought in terms of dreck, Horrible Bosses was a bit less drecky than Bad Teacher.

They both got a couple chuckles but BT was just way too predictable. After 3 minutes I knew everything except:

if the gym teacher would have money or not at the end.
