Hot, fresh bread or chocolate layer cake?

I’m torn - hot, fresh, home-baked bread, right out of the oven and steaming hot, with gobs of real butter, or rich, moist, dark chocolate layer cake with thick chocolate icing? Not that I have either. :slight_smile:

There’s a disturbance in the force…I think I’d choose the bread. I think my sweet tooth broke, and I really had one. When someone passed up a dessert saying “It’s too rich for me” I had not even an inking of what that might even mean. Now I get it. It’s probably nature’s way of keeping me from weighing 400lbs, and I should probably be grateful, but I’m not sure yet.

Bread, crusty, with butter, or some olive oil with herbs.

Both!!! Definitely both!!! I can only have one or the other? :mad: If I’m making them myself, I’ll take the rich, gooey chocolate layer cake because it takes less time to make, I think, depending on how long it takes to cool. I need at least 3 hours for yeast bread, although I can make a nice batch of soda bread in a little over an hour. If both are on hand, I’ll still take the layer cake because to get the bread at its luscious best, I’d have to heat it up. The gentleman, by the way agrees. He wants both!!!

Drat it, now I’m hungry!

I’d love both, but if I had to choose, the chocolate cake wins. I’m a major chocoholic.

As much as I love chocolate, there is nothing more wonderful in this world than a chunk of fresh-from-the-oven crusty bread with a smear of butter… if I had to name my last meal, that’s what I’d eat.

Though I wholeheartedly approve of the compromise of hot fresh bread spread with Nutella instead. Mmmmm.

Huh. There’s a lot of bread takers here. I get enough of that now with my breadmaker. It’s not exciting. Chocolate layer cake on the otherhand, I haven’t had in years. Definitely the cake.

I can pass up chocolate cake. Alas, I cannot pass up bread. Hot, crusty, slathered with butter. Nom nom nom!

Cake. Bread is delicious but I won’t even remember that I had the option for bread once I am in my chocolate coma.

It would depend on the time of day. I don’t really like sweet things in the morning. So bread in the morning, cake in the afternoon.

I’m a baker professionally, and it’s the bread for me! Best aroma in the world is bread baking.

Not that I don’t like chocolate cake. Theobroma cacao really is the food of the gods. But bread in all it’s forms, with butter on it, is even better.

I love chocolate but chocolate cake with chocolate icing is too much (yes, I know - “does not compute” but really it’s too much) now if it were a vanilla frosting with chocolate cake we might have a competition.
