House 10/31 Welcome back!!

Good to see our favorite cantankerous doctor again after the baseball-induced hiatus. More confounding cases and bizarre diagnoses to come.

Hey! It’s moved back to 8 pm (9 eastern). When did this happen?

Thanks, Viv! Without your kind reminder, I’d’ve missed it.

Good thing I checked the TV listings today. FINALLY the baseball whatever-it-was thing is over. I need me some House.

It’s on at 9pm here on the Left Coast.

That was one hilarious episode!

Paraphrasing, but still…

“You do realise that isn’t actually a puppy?”

“virus, bacteria, prions, chemicals, or something caused by internet porn. I’ll check out the internet, you take care of the rest”

Good ep, though it was a little messed up because I had to take several calls during the show. I’m proud that I figured out the accidental incest angle before the big reveal… if they had the same disease, but didn’t catch it from each other… how else could they have gotten it?

House’s misanthrope schtick is going way too far. Seriously, it’s hard to believe that this guy is so brilliant he can pull this crap on everyone and get off scot-free? He’s not going to change, but I actually think the cop busting him is going to teach him a lesson.

On St. Elsewhere, David Morse played a doctor who was raped in prison.

He’s cornering the market on roles involving things shoved up his ass.

This was the show where everyone stands up against House and he was wrong each time.
Wilson and nurse, Cuddy not pregnant, no apology - dire conseequences, Forman with nurse winning the $200, the morphine blocker not providing answers after his students take a stand to stop him using it.

Do you think the wriiters are making a bid to bring a little humility to House’s character by having him be wrong and running into someone even meaner with a bigger stick?

I love the cop angle. I was waiting for him to say “You may be the Big Man at the hospital, but out here you’re just another nobody.”

I tend to agree. His behavior with Morse in the examination room was uncalledfor, and not even all that funny. It wasn’t as if Morse was being all that difficult, either. House was verging on the psychotic here.

I still liked it, and maybe some time in jail will be good for him, but they really need to tone things back a bit.

I have to say the cop was 100% correct. It’s weird at first you’d think this was becasue he too was a bully but it almost seems sincere when he says “You can’t go around treating people like that”

I don’t think it is all a power thing for the cop I think he wants to look after the “little guy”
House had been given three oppurtunities to apologize, including one when he was pulled over. He arrogantly refused. I for one will not cheer if House gets away with it or wins over the cop.

The guy needs to be knocked down a peg or two once and a while.

The notion of a doctor who is supposedly brilliant, but who can’t make a correct diagnosis until 47 minutes into the hour, is getting a little tired. So the thing to do, apparently, is to make him a more over-the-top asshole. I see a shark approaching.

He’s always been an over the top asshole. If that is a sign of the shark jumping… That shark done been jumped.

Totally disagree that House needs to be “taken down a notch”. He’s basically self-destructive and it caught up with him in this ep. He knew as soon as he saw that cop get out of the car what was coming and just didn’t care. The great thing about House is his reactions aren’t what a “normal” person’s would be. I don’t want them to change a thing about him.

So is that cop a detective or something? He was in plain clothes and is pulling someone over for speeding in a residential area, why no uniform? Maybe he was tailing House from the hospital.

Best part of the ep for me, though was realizing it was FOREMAN who was going to the Pocanos with that nurse. (House figured it out at the last minute, so he was partially right!)

I didn’t like this episode. I agree with the others who say they’re taking House’s character a little too far down the asshole path. I don’t for a second believe that he could get away with picking the lock on a nurse’s locker and rummaging through her things. That crossed the line from annoying to criminal. They can sometimes get away with criminal behaviour from House when it’s in the service of his saving a patient, but this was just a personal thing. And House’s treatment of the cop was over the line as well.

House is supposed to be arrogant, annoying, sometimes rule-breaking, and mean. He gets away with it because he’s brilliant and saves lives. Now they’re crossing the line into casual law breaking just for fun and abusive behaviour towards patients that’s gone from making mean-spirited wisecracks with a grain of truth to them to casual abuse for fun.

They’ve got to pull the character back from the brink, because he’s looking over into the shark tank.

Yeah, it was implied that he was a detective when House was examining him. Something like:

“What, are you a detective?”
“Yeah, maybe I am.”

I love this show, and I love House’s character. Based on what I’ve seen so far, the writers know what they’re doing, so I’m going to trust them to avoid the shark.

I think what they’re doing is setting House up for a fall. He *has * been getting worse, more arrogant, harder to deal with–but remember, he’s just been through the euphoria of being pain-free for awhile followed by the crash of having it all come falling down around him again. He’s probably overreacting to everything (hence stealing Wilson’s prescription pad) because he’s scared that things are just going to get worse. I know people who deal with that kind of thing by becoming assholes–and when you’re already more than a bit of an asshole to start with, this can be really bad for the ol’ mental health (not to mention the social life).

What I’m hoping is that the cop’s actions, including

Having House ordered into a court-ordered drug rehab discussion group

are going to end up helping him in the end. I think he’s starting to spiral out of control.

I agree with winterhawk. House is reeling out of control, but it’s for a larger plot point, not because they’ve forgotten how to write him well. I think that the possession of a controlled substance angle is going to really drive some decent drama for the rest of this season. I kind of thought something like this might be coming since the first few episodes were hinged on his getting clean and then getting back on the Vicodin.

Sure, there are some ramps being set up over the shark tank, but I think they’ll steer clear of them.

Yep. I am waiting to see what they do with this arc. I actually felt very nervous for House at the end of the ep.
