ARRRRRRRGGGHHHH!!! I totally missed these parts! I love the first, and am curious as to what they will do with the second…
Sad episode. I think House is nastier this season than last. But I also think that looking at Stacy’s confidential record is in-character. He doesn’t think rules apply to him, and he has always gotten away with it because he’s brilliant.
I thought the rat storyline was going to end up with House figuring out that whatever was making the rat sick was the same thing that was causing Stacy’s husband to have no sex drive. And then House would then debate whether or not to cure him.
I missed it.
Anyone feel like spoiling the diagnosis for me?
And while were at it what’s the significance of 221b?
I noticed House’s address too. Nice touch!
I also noticed that Cameron looked like she had no makeup on when she came in after being coughed on by the patient. Maybe they were trying to make it look like she was suffering some side effects, but to me it looked like she though eye shadow was contraindicated for someone on anti-virals.
221B was Sherlock Holmes’ flat number, and he is clearly an inspiration for the character of House.
He probably lives on Baker St.
Both the patient and his father had echinococcosis. It was causing the patient’s hemoptysis and his father’s liver failure.
It definitely, unquestionably, and most certainly methamphetamine – she was still tweaking the next day. MDMA, though “speedy,” doesn’t usually make people that jittery - and if you binge the night before it’s unlikely that there will be any observable effects the next morning, apart from those associated with fatigue and sleep deprivation. You “use up” serotonin at an accelerated rate, and when it’s all gone, there’s no more buzz – you could even have another pill with your morning coffee with little effect. No so with meth.
It looked to me like Cameron went all night and then thought “A little bump is just the thing to get me through the day!” (Anyone who’s ever done speed can relate to this – it’s why it’s often such a destructive drug: its use leads to fatigue, and further use appears to relieve fatigue. If you’re not careful, the next thing you know you’ve been up for five days and your mind is disintegrating.) She wasn’t showing signs of a residual high – she was totally wired.
Also, her sexual advances were definitely speedy, rather than E-ish. The grinning maniac that pins you to a wall and says “Manflesh! Do me now! Raaargh!” is the meth-head. The one that dreamily fixates on the tactile quality of your hair or the fabric you’re wearing and then gradually transitions into a grope session and then sex has dropped E. (Generally.)
I liked it when House said something like “I can’t always do what’s expected of me: People will say I’m formulaic.” Heh.
Thanks for the info!
LOL!
I had totally forgotten that line until now. How brilliant. Well at least they are aware of it ;).
She washed off her make-up when she washed the blood off her face. I think it made her look a little vulnerable.
I was glad that the episode accomplished the rumored Cameron-Chase hookup without making them into a couple. I wasn’t really looking forward to that.
Hey, Snooooopy, are you back in Louisville for good? We should get together for a beer or something.
I missed the beginning of the episode. Why did Cameron take drugs?
You must have missed the first 20-30 minutes. Cameron took drugs because the Patient of the Week said she needed to loosen up and enjoy life more. He basically shamed her into it.
The POTW pushed some buttons while “explaining” that getting AIDS was the best thing that ever happened to him. Cameron claimed that she loved her job when he told her that taking meth would help her to tolerate it, and he rather haughtily put her down by saying that she didn’t look like someone who loved anything – that she was more the sort of person who was “satisfied” with her job – because she was a rules person, working for social approval. He said that this sort of thing makes other people happy – it would never make her happy. He further said that, until he was diagnosed as HIV positive, he was that sort of person himself, but since then he figured life was too short, and embraced a “live for the day, live for yourself” sort of attitude, which included plenty of drugs and sex. He said that for the first time, he was actually happy. Then, of course, he coughed up blood in her face, and when she griped to Chase that the hospital’s legal department was probably going to put her under a microscope to see if she’d ever exposed herself to drugs or frequent and abandoned sex, the way he quickly assumed she didn’t have anything to worry about because she never did anything like that seemed to rub her the wrong way. She had access to his drugs because he had them with his personal effects, and had taken them to test them for contaminants that might have caused his symptoms. (We’ll just pretend that’s plausible.)
So basically, she took the miserable kid’s rationalization as a sales pitch, had some opportunities, and made a couple of impulsive decisions when faced with a serious stressor. “Woohoo! The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come told me to do a few rails and totally bone my absurdly hot coworker! It’s on!”

Well, at least you have the benefit of the laconic and the verbose versions, now. :smack:
The verbose version was more interesting IMHO.
Dammit, the Cameron/Chase thing was too obvious. I think it would have been better if it was Foreman, or even Wilson, anyone but the too-pretty too-preppy ones. But ah well. I looooved the look Foreman gives Chase after House busts the two lovebirds, it’s so “Oh no you di-int!” and it looks like he’s about to high-five Chase until he realises Cameron’s still there.
A better episode than the last few, in my mind. And an Amos Lee song at the end, to boot! Yay.
Indeed I am. Once I’ve recovered from the stress of the move (and this cold that I’ve got), we should definitely meet up.
